  • Doesn't describe how amazing the property is, it's fantastic

"Wonderfully well thought out with lots of extras for games on the lawn and playing at the beach. Kids and adults loved the old farmhouse and the incredible property. If we are ever back, we will definitely rebook in this very special place. Thanks Elizabeth you made it very easy for us!"

  • I'm already having withdrawal symptoms from this house.

"My partner and I agreed to organise a murder-mystery weekend away for a group of 9 people over Halloween weekend, and Lauren (the owner) was nothing but accommodating, responsive, and generally fabulous both before and during our arrival. The house is not only stunning, but its location is perfect (I was amazed how little time it took to get to/from the cottage to/from Toronto), combined with amenities and groceries nearby so we didn't need to haul much to the cottage. All our guests were elated with the size (each guest had there own bed - and there was more than enough room to accommodate more if necessary), cleanliness and overall grandeur of the house. As with any online transactions, there's always a hint of reservation when something looks too good to be true, but much like all the reviews below, I hope I can convey how excellent the entire experience was for me - I'm already planning a summer return so we can take full advantage of the private beach. Thanks once again Lauren - without you and your home, our murder mystery weekend wouldn't have been such a huge success. I hope you can forgive us for the remnants of a feather boa scattered around the house..."

  • Great Little Cottage Well Equipped and Modern Amenities

"Our family stayed from July 27th to August 3rd 2014. Contrary to a previous reviewer we knew that the cottage was in a somewhat residential area, paved road, etc. That was perfect for us and it is in a great spot, very close to many amenities. Great view of the lake, excellent interior with modern bathrooms, all you could want in the kitchen. VERY clean upon arrival. Bonus was the "bunky" which our guests could use, also very clean with full bath and a fridge as well, slept four easily. We enjoyed our stay very much and would return. Restaurant Note: DO go to Hot Stacks for breakfast or brunch it is really outstanding! About a 20 minute drive. Only complaint: The BBQ is very old and needs to be replaced - it was also very dirty/soiled from previous use, took us half an hour to clean it, we certainly left it in better shape than we found it!, outdoor kitchen is not useable, dirty and in disrepair."

  • A perfect cottage for a family gathering

"Not sure what we can add to what people have already said who have fully described the property... Rowanlea is a classic traditional Canadian cottage – the kind they don’t build any more. The kitchen is exceptional, replete with cooking equipment and large pantry type cupboards containing plenty of crockery, glasses and commonly needed staples such as spices. It has a gigantic working counter open to the dining room with its huge table and ten chairs. When you add the BBQ outside it allowed easy cooking even for a crowd. Depending on the weather we were able to switch between eating in the dining room and on the adjacent rear deck and even with a large group have everyone seated together at a single table. This was very special. Laundry and bathroom facilities are very good. Loads of sleeping spaces are dotted between the two levels in both the main cottage and the boat house. Loved the books, artworks, musical instruments, comfortable furniture, bits and pieces from the family's life that we were allowed to share. Lights, electricity coped admirably with our demands. Hot water nearly did. We did have more people than usual staying at the cabin so the hot water situation nudged past the critical point. Loved the added space of the boathouse and the privacy of the dock. So many special spaces on the grounds for a little privacy, a fire at night, all kinds of games on the lawn, accessible parking, treed site, boats, lake views (those sunsets!). The amount of room available allowing all to have a private space should be noted. The cottage is easy to reach by routes both direct and scenic from the city and stores for all needs are found within an easy drive. There is a large garbage holder at the road that safely houses filled garbage, recycling and compost containers until collection day. The cottage is on well water but a water cooler/dispenser is provided. In short, Rowanlea was just about perfect for our family gathering and will be remembered fondly for years."
