  • So Private and Tranquil

"My sister was visiting from California. We rented Waynes cabin with three other friends. Five women! We had a wonderful time. We took advantage of all the cabin and property had to offer. Saunas. Firepit at night with s'mores. Kayaking. Hiking. Fires in the evening in the cabin. The mornings are extraordinary if you like to get up early. The mist oen the lake combined with the wildlife waking up is breathtaking. The lake is delightful for kayaking and canoeing. My grandfather owned 100 acres in northern Ontario and this place took me back to my childhood and the wonder and awe of natures simplicity. You never have to leave the property but if you do, it is very close to both Haliburton and Minden. The area is rich with artists studios and galleries. This cabin is not to be missed! Oh, and the chipmunks (fondly chippies) will keep a smile on your face as they dash across the deck in their search for acorns. Truly a place to let go of the everyday stresses and just be in the moment."

  • Great beach/lake for families

"We just returned from a week at this cottage on Lake Farlain. It was a low-key family vacation with our 2-year-old twins and their grandparents, though we did have a few additional family members stay a couple of nights at a time. For the most part, we all fit comfortably on the upper/main level of the cottage in the 3 spacious bedrooms, updated bathroom, living room and kitchen areas. However, the nights that we did have additional guests, we were required to use the fourth bedroom located on the lower level of the cottage. I cannot say enough about how pleased we were with the beach front and lake. It was much better than I had even anticipated. The lake is relatively small, though large enough for power boating, waterskiing, and jet skis. Very calm and shallow, sandy water leading to deep enough water to swim at the end of the dock. Our toddlers absolutely loved playing in the sand and wading in and out of the water without us having to be hypervigilant. The property the cottage is on is fairly large and private as well with no immediate neighbours to one side and several cottages fairly well spaced out to the opposite side. The cottage came equipped with many staples that could be needed, like cleaning supplies, toys and games, lots of towels, and most everything you would need for cooking in the kitchen. The cleaner had done an immaculate job prior to our arrival as well. I had no complaints about the main level of the cottage at all! However, the main problem we experienced was with the basement/4th bedroom area. It appeared fine, but smelled and felt damp right off the bat. However, when we did have a few extra bodies visiting at night, we quickly learned that there is a major earwig/bug problem in the basement that came out at night. They were everywhere... coming out of the ceiling tiles and lights above the bed and throughout the basement! Our guests actually moved up to the living area floor their first night and set up their tent outside on the second night because that was preferable to the "fourth bedroom". We are all well experienced with spending time up north and cottaging, and recognize there are always bugs to a certain extent, but this was well above and beyond anything we have ever experienced! I really feel this cottage should be advertised as only a 3-bedroom and priced accordingly for that reason! Other than that, we had a fantastic trip! I would replace steps from the deck to yard as they are steep and dangerous though."

  • Wonderful place for vacation

"We had a very good time during our vacation. The view of the Ontario Lake is magical, especially early in the morning and late at night. The owner is just so nice and patient, she answered our million e-mails very fast. Very quiet place, a little far from Sandbanks beach (45-50 min. ride) but it's not really a problem since the house is waterfront. Would recommand this place to everyone, especially since the owner accepts dogs."

  • A great family vacation

"This is a great cottage to stay with family or friends. We have enjoyed three vacations at this property in three consecutive years. We have stayed for one week each time. The cottage is very clean and well stocked with games. It has a great back deck with a beautiful view of the water and amazing sunsets. We always have a lot of fun taking the boats out on the water, hanging out on the dock, or kicking a soccer ball around on the grass. The cottage also provides easy access to wineries, fresh local food, the nearby towns of Picton and Bloomfield and the beautiful beaches at Sandbanks. We've had three wonderful vacations at the cottage and we can't wait to go back next year."
