  • Well Appointed, Cozy Vacation Home

"We rented this house with another family and it worked out very well for a short ski get away. The first thing I'd like to comment on is the owner's approach to renting the property. They like to do it the old-fashioned way and to use a personal touch. This means that there's lots of trust involved. Although I wasn't sure about paying for the entire stay when I booked, after talking to the owner I decided to go ahead. It all worked out fine. If this is a concern, there is insurance available through VRBO. The home was exactly as represented in the photos (except that the master bedroom is bigger than it appears). The rooms and furnishings were very comfortable and in good condition. One thing to note is that there is a bar at the kitchen with four bar chairs but there is no formal dining table. If a large group wishes to eat together there is a large coffee table in the living room which can be used. The kitchen truly does have everything you could need for cooking. The living room was a cozy space to hang out in. The owner was very responsive and friendly. We had a great chat as we were oriented to the property and they made it clear that we could contact them with any additional needs. The location is great - we watched skiers from the living room window. It was a bit too far for the younger members of our group to walk to the lifts, but the drive really was about 1 minute and parking was easy. All in all, this was a really nice fit for our group of 7 and we had a great time. We are already chatting about a return in the warmer weather!"

  • Perfectly cozy, quite a gem

"This was our first time visiting Toronto, and it was made extra special beause of this perfect little gem of a house. My husband could not make the trip at the last moment, so it was just me with 2 middle school kids and my father. All of us LOVED the house. Each space in the house was used smartly, the decor is very artistic, well thought of. I personally loved sitting in front of the big window looking into the backyard, watching the cats come and go. My kids absolutely loved teh feel of teh old house, thinking it so different, havingg quite a ball seeing real built-in radiators work. My father absolutely loved the study up front, so tidy and functional. The house is on a very quiet street, yet just steps away from major roads, very convenient. We walked to various shops, eateries each day, finding lots of good places within walking distance. There are buses close by, but we didn't try the public transportation while there, so i can only assume it is very convenient. We rented a car, since we planned to drive to see the Niagra Falls. Finding the back parking spot was a bit interesting, but easy enough even for me, who is not good with tight parking spaces. The owner was very nice, very responsive, and left very detailed instructions and informations about everything. The perfect place to stay while in Toronto. Kids already told my husband that we are coming back to this very house, so he can see how charming a place this is."

  • A perfect cottage for a family gathering

"Not sure what we can add to what people have already said who have fully described the property... Rowanlea is a classic traditional Canadian cottage – the kind they don’t build any more. The kitchen is exceptional, replete with cooking equipment and large pantry type cupboards containing plenty of crockery, glasses and commonly needed staples such as spices. It has a gigantic working counter open to the dining room with its huge table and ten chairs. When you add the BBQ outside it allowed easy cooking even for a crowd. Depending on the weather we were able to switch between eating in the dining room and on the adjacent rear deck and even with a large group have everyone seated together at a single table. This was very special. Laundry and bathroom facilities are very good. Loads of sleeping spaces are dotted between the two levels in both the main cottage and the boat house. Loved the books, artworks, musical instruments, comfortable furniture, bits and pieces from the family's life that we were allowed to share. Lights, electricity coped admirably with our demands. Hot water nearly did. We did have more people than usual staying at the cabin so the hot water situation nudged past the critical point. Loved the added space of the boathouse and the privacy of the dock. So many special spaces on the grounds for a little privacy, a fire at night, all kinds of games on the lawn, accessible parking, treed site, boats, lake views (those sunsets!). The amount of room available allowing all to have a private space should be noted. The cottage is easy to reach by routes both direct and scenic from the city and stores for all needs are found within an easy drive. There is a large garbage holder at the road that safely houses filled garbage, recycling and compost containers until collection day. The cottage is on well water but a water cooler/dispenser is provided. In short, Rowanlea was just about perfect for our family gathering and will be remembered fondly for years."
