"We were 3 families with children (12 people) and had a great time at this nice place. There was enough room for everyone to sleep quietly, even with small children! The house is also very close to Sandbanks provincial park (5-10 minutes by car), which was our main goal for the weekend. And the whole place is well equiped.. We did not miss anything!"

"Having come over from Scotland for a Canadian holiday, we spent a wonderful 2 weeks at this lovely lakeside house. It is well set up with everything you need, including fishing equipment and 2 kayaks as well as a canoe. The kids (9 and 11 years) just loved messing about in and on the water. You can enjoy the sunset over the water from the veranda whilst sipping your G & T (or any of the wines from the many vineries in the area). The house is well situated for exploring Prince Edward County and its only about 30 minutes by car to Sandbanks Provincial Park.
Highly recommended. Just a shame it is so far away from Scotland..."

"We spent two wonderful weeks at Hawthorne Cottage. The first week was spent with our extended family - both sets of grandparents and our two children (ages 2 and 4). For the second week, the grandparents left and our friend's family moved in with their three children (ages 18 m, 3.5 and 6). The cottage was incredibly well-stocked (more so than our own home!) with endless dishes and glassware, good quality appliances, large capacity washer/dryer, great quality linens, comfortable beds, a hammock, loads of outdoor seating, a campfire pit and even two bbqs. The property was absolutely beautiful and very spacious for lots of time spent playing outside with the kids. There was even a horseshoe pit and a golf mat/net for practice. We did take the kids swimming at the cottage (water shoes suggested), but also spent a lot of time at close by North Beach which we found to be much less busy than Sandbanks. We went kayaking at the cottage as well (brought our own kayaks) which was wonderful and calm. The kids didn't mind being dragged around to the areas wineries as well - especially those equipped with trampolines (Norman Hardie, Broken Stone). Inside the cottage layout was perfect for two families as there are two sides (even two kitchens!) to keep things separated if desired. There was also a great craft room for rainy days where the kids enjoyed painting rocks and playing games. There was also wireless internet and a fully stocked media console with netflix, video games, etc. for evenings or when the weather wasn't particularly nice. This was much more a 'vacation home' than a 'cottage' as it was so well-equipped. On a side note, we had arranged for family photos to be taken in the area with our extended family during our stay. The property was so beautiful that we ended up staying right onsite at Hawthorne cottage with it's beautiful gardens and shoreline. We don't have enough good things to say about our stay and hope to be back again to make more great memories in Prince Edward County. Owner Tom was a pleasure to work with in coordinating our stay. We highly recommend Hawthorne for a vacation getaway with family or friends."

"We stayed here for one week earlier this summer (August 16-23) with my brother's family and our three dogs. As others have commented, the bathrooms associated with each room gave everyone a feeling of having their own self-contained living areas in the house, along with the spacious, well-equipped kitchen and the deck overlooking the garden and the bay (which is where we ate most of our meals - making extensive use of the new Weber barbecue). Probably what we spent most time doing, however, was walking along the trails through the woods associated with the property, which were serenely beautiful and much enjoyed by the dogs, who I think would have liked to stay forever. Although the house is quite secluded, small towns, wineries, cider manufacturers, cheese factories, restaurants and the Sandbanks resort are all within easy driving distance. My brother, who is an avid cyclist, also enjoyed the rolling and mostly traffic-free country roads, which made for great cycling trips. A wonderful place to unwind!"
