"Hi D I have to thank you for letting us stay at your wonderful cottage you were a fabulous host and I believe we hit a home run with your place. The cottage had ample room for us guys and the gourmet kitchen was outstanding. The kitchen was so well equipped which made cooking a breeze and a pleasure cooking for a large group. With the large deck the views of the lake from the cottage were breath taking and with the gazebo on the water, with the beautiful beach was more than one could imagine. The ample parking space made parking a breeze. I would highly recommend this rental to all. You truly do have a diamond in the ruff and we will see you next year. Cheers and thank you Ty jardine"

  • Great beach/lake for families

"We just returned from a week at this cottage on Lake Farlain. It was a low-key family vacation with our 2-year-old twins and their grandparents, though we did have a few additional family members stay a couple of nights at a time. For the most part, we all fit comfortably on the upper/main level of the cottage in the 3 spacious bedrooms, updated bathroom, living room and kitchen areas. However, the nights that we did have additional guests, we were required to use the fourth bedroom located on the lower level of the cottage. I cannot say enough about how pleased we were with the beach front and lake. It was much better than I had even anticipated. The lake is relatively small, though large enough for power boating, waterskiing, and jet skis. Very calm and shallow, sandy water leading to deep enough water to swim at the end of the dock. Our toddlers absolutely loved playing in the sand and wading in and out of the water without us having to be hypervigilant. The property the cottage is on is fairly large and private as well with no immediate neighbours to one side and several cottages fairly well spaced out to the opposite side. The cottage came equipped with many staples that could be needed, like cleaning supplies, toys and games, lots of towels, and most everything you would need for cooking in the kitchen. The cleaner had done an immaculate job prior to our arrival as well. I had no complaints about the main level of the cottage at all! However, the main problem we experienced was with the basement/4th bedroom area. It appeared fine, but smelled and felt damp right off the bat. However, when we did have a few extra bodies visiting at night, we quickly learned that there is a major earwig/bug problem in the basement that came out at night. They were everywhere... coming out of the ceiling tiles and lights above the bed and throughout the basement! Our guests actually moved up to the living area floor their first night and set up their tent outside on the second night because that was preferable to the "fourth bedroom". We are all well experienced with spending time up north and cottaging, and recognize there are always bugs to a certain extent, but this was well above and beyond anything we have ever experienced! I really feel this cottage should be advertised as only a 3-bedroom and priced accordingly for that reason! Other than that, we had a fantastic trip! I would replace steps from the deck to yard as they are steep and dangerous though."

  • Great Vintage Cottage in Killarney!

"My husband and I have been looking for a suitable cottage in Northern Ontario which could be used as a gathering place for our adult children and ourselves in future years. And this cottage definitely fits the bill! The setting is beautiful; it's relatively private, and the cottage is spacious and very clean. It definitely captures a moment in time with its comfortable furnishings, famlly trophies and photographs. As previous reviews have outlined, there are countless opportunities for outdoor adventures in this area...or alternatively, to curl up with a good read from the extensive cottage library. Thank you, Jonathan, for opening up your cottage to strangers...what a perfect way to keep family memories alive...by sharing them in the place they loved!!"

  • A perfect cottage for a family gathering

"Not sure what we can add to what people have already said who have fully described the property... Rowanlea is a classic traditional Canadian cottage – the kind they don’t build any more. The kitchen is exceptional, replete with cooking equipment and large pantry type cupboards containing plenty of crockery, glasses and commonly needed staples such as spices. It has a gigantic working counter open to the dining room with its huge table and ten chairs. When you add the BBQ outside it allowed easy cooking even for a crowd. Depending on the weather we were able to switch between eating in the dining room and on the adjacent rear deck and even with a large group have everyone seated together at a single table. This was very special. Laundry and bathroom facilities are very good. Loads of sleeping spaces are dotted between the two levels in both the main cottage and the boat house. Loved the books, artworks, musical instruments, comfortable furniture, bits and pieces from the family's life that we were allowed to share. Lights, electricity coped admirably with our demands. Hot water nearly did. We did have more people than usual staying at the cabin so the hot water situation nudged past the critical point. Loved the added space of the boathouse and the privacy of the dock. So many special spaces on the grounds for a little privacy, a fire at night, all kinds of games on the lawn, accessible parking, treed site, boats, lake views (those sunsets!). The amount of room available allowing all to have a private space should be noted. The cottage is easy to reach by routes both direct and scenic from the city and stores for all needs are found within an easy drive. There is a large garbage holder at the road that safely houses filled garbage, recycling and compost containers until collection day. The cottage is on well water but a water cooler/dispenser is provided. In short, Rowanlea was just about perfect for our family gathering and will be remembered fondly for years."
