  • Pefect

"My family and I decided to go North-East for Spring Break and debated on staying downtown in Toronto for the "Experience". Glad we opted for staying here instead. Joy greeted us and showed us around the property and even left a starter basket of breakfast foods to get us going. View of the lake was spectacular and the rental gave us plenty of room to relax. Uniquely decorated and well stocked with brochures and local info. Loved the reading nook and the easy access to the city. 15-20 minute drive depending on the traffic. Was able to find our way around quite easily even without GPS. WiFi access was great also. Would definitely consider returning and staying here again. Thanks Joy!"

  • Perfect place for a family vacation

"We (wife and I, kids aged 7 and 5 and my parents) spent a week on Dempster Island. The cottage is very well equipped and very comfortable. The views are spectacular, especially sunrises, sunsets and looking at the stars at night from the private dock. Our kids loved playing on the beach and going for canoe and motorboat rides. Although the cottage is on an island, Bala is very close and it's easy to get to and from shore with the provided motorboat."

  • A perfect cottage for a family gathering

"Not sure what we can add to what people have already said who have fully described the property... Rowanlea is a classic traditional Canadian cottage – the kind they don’t build any more. The kitchen is exceptional, replete with cooking equipment and large pantry type cupboards containing plenty of crockery, glasses and commonly needed staples such as spices. It has a gigantic working counter open to the dining room with its huge table and ten chairs. When you add the BBQ outside it allowed easy cooking even for a crowd. Depending on the weather we were able to switch between eating in the dining room and on the adjacent rear deck and even with a large group have everyone seated together at a single table. This was very special. Laundry and bathroom facilities are very good. Loads of sleeping spaces are dotted between the two levels in both the main cottage and the boat house. Loved the books, artworks, musical instruments, comfortable furniture, bits and pieces from the family's life that we were allowed to share. Lights, electricity coped admirably with our demands. Hot water nearly did. We did have more people than usual staying at the cabin so the hot water situation nudged past the critical point. Loved the added space of the boathouse and the privacy of the dock. So many special spaces on the grounds for a little privacy, a fire at night, all kinds of games on the lawn, accessible parking, treed site, boats, lake views (those sunsets!). The amount of room available allowing all to have a private space should be noted. The cottage is easy to reach by routes both direct and scenic from the city and stores for all needs are found within an easy drive. There is a large garbage holder at the road that safely houses filled garbage, recycling and compost containers until collection day. The cottage is on well water but a water cooler/dispenser is provided. In short, Rowanlea was just about perfect for our family gathering and will be remembered fondly for years."

  • Girl's getaway

"A great place for a girl getaway. Swimming in the lake or in the provincial park on Georgian Bay with its magnificent vews. Long walks in the park. A great deck for eating outside. A convenient kitchen (well organized) and a wonderful harvest table for long communal meals and talks. Lots of space to spread out."
