  • Real gem in Calabogie area

"We recently spent a long weekend here for a family reunion. We were 8 adults and a 7 yr. old child. The house is magnificent; it had every amenity you could require. Beautiful, fully equipped kitchen/dining area. Lovely fireplace for après ski. And the hot tub...........what can I say about that after a day on the nearby slopes !!!!!!!!!! Derek was very helpful with all the necessary instructions beforehand. Directions to find the property were great. Comfy beds ( the one in the master bedroom requires a step stool to access), great sound system, games room. What you see in the photos is what you get and more. We had a fabulous time and would recommend the place to anyone. Thank you Derek, for making the reservation process easy also. Would definitely go back. We didn't make use of any of the restaurants in the area but did ski at Calabogie Peaks for 4 hrs. Nice family oriented ski hill, small by our standards but fun just the same."

  • Adorable cottage made for fantastic stay!

"Abel Thomas House is an adorable, spotless little cottage we stayed at Jan. 24-26th 2014. Our mini break here was exactly what we were looking for, and staying at abel Thomas really made our weekend outstanding! 2 minute walk to everything, couldn't have asked for a better stay in Niagara on the Lake, and this charming house was everything we could have asked for and more. Definitely recommended, we will absolutely be returning! A definite highlight of the weekend was the snowshoe wine tour we went on at thirty bench winery! Located a short drive away, the tour consists of a snowshoe instruction, a beautiful snowshoe tour of the vineyard which included 5 tastings of their delicious wine! To top it all off, upon return to the lodge, they serve homemade soup by the campfire, with of course more wine! More than well worth the 30 dollars per person! We hope to absolutely do this again! All in all the best weekend we could have hoped for!"

  • Great family getaway and my children didn't want to leave!

"This house is wonderful! It is absolutely huge, spacious and a very well manicured property. I see the review below concerned about it not being good for small children but mine had a blast.(5 and 4 years old) We stayed with two families, two children each and there was room for another! The house is very well equipped for dining, entertainment, and enjoying the outdoors. The property is well taken care for, nature trails leading to a small pond as well as swimming in the bay. The bed of the bay is a little soft but you don't sink, if the feeling of it bothers you aqua shoes from Canadian Tire will make it pleasant for you. The water is no more than 3' deep, warm and very calm so swimming kayaking and SUPing(i brought my own SUP) was delightful. The yard is huge for soccer, volleyball, boccie ball and general play can all be done at once with space to spare. The area is beautiful, very scenic. Wed did have vehicles and we went into town for a little shopping and ice cream. Wonderful community. The Sandbanks is also very close and a wonderful beach area. Tip, park by the store, easiest walk to the beach and less busy. Close to the house is a great park for the kids and areas to fish(we try to stay away from swimming areas and we caught countless Perch, Bluegills, Rock Bass, and Pumpkinseed. In the evenings the deck is very private and there are two living rooms to unwind in. Noise didn't carry upstairs to the bedrooms although I don't think it mattered. There is so much to do in the area I think the fresh air and activity was enough for the kids to fall asleep as soon as their heads hit the pillows. And don't worry about rainy days, the house is equipped with board games, Foosball, Ping Pong and satellite TV. now that I think of it hide and seek would have been a blast too! Luckily we had great weather but if you like to wake up slowly with a coffee foosball and ping pong was enough to keep the kids busy as long as you need. All in all we got all the R&R we needed that week. The only sad part is it's over too soon."

  • Best Place on the Lake - gorgeous

"It's been a few years since we rented this ‘slice of heaven’, but it still remains our favorite of all time. (Rented July 2009) The cabin is absolutely gorgeous. If you think the pictures look beautiful – wait until you see it in person. WOW !! The huge loft with its own bathroom was perfect for our children. Our chocolate Lab loved the sandy beach to swim and ‘try’ to catch fish and the huge outside deck to relax in the sun. The screened-in-porch was a perfect hiding place when the mosquitoes got hungry (usually right at dusk). My son and I loved exploring the lake in the kayaks, we even found a nearby rope swing to pass the time away. The dock was perfect for docking our boat and to just sit and catch some fish. Kevin (neighbor) is a great guy that checked in on us to ensure everything was ok. I thank-you Mike for opening up your awesome place to me and my family. We made memories that will last a life time and we are hoping to return in the near future."
