  • Serenity

"According to the dictionary the word "serenity" is a noun. It means the state or quality of being serene, calm, or tranquil; sereneness. This description describes the home, Serenity in White Sound, Elbow Cay, Bahamas perfectly. Our family discovered this beautiful rental home through VRBO a couple of summers ago. We have been visiting Hopetown with our three daughters ever since they were little girls, now they are all teenagers. Our family has rented Serenity for a couple of weeks each summer for several summers now. As soon as you arrive on the property, either by boat or by golf cart, you know that you have arrived to a magical place. We love that the house is at the end of the point overlooking White Sound. It has amazing views of the water from many vantage points on the property. The grounds of the property are very well maintained with lush, tropical flora. The expansive dock is very new and in great shape with easy access to docking your boat. There are also three kayaks on the dock to go exploring the surrounding waters. As you make your way up to the house, you might pass the pool which is always one of our favorite ways we end our days from being out on the water. There is also a very large outdoor shower which makes it convenient to clean up. Upon entering the home with its multi-tiered decking, you will see the beautiful, European style kitchen with its high end appliances. The décor is spectacular with hand painted flatware and whimsical cutlery. It makes cooking a breeze. There is even an herb garden on the property that you can get herbs from. The way the house is layed out, it is perfect for our family, each daughter gets her own bedroom and then they share a bathroom. The master bedroom/bathroom is a place to relax and take refuge in. One of the things that we love about this house are the views. We love to watch the sunrise from the deck or air-conditioned cabana with our coffee and we especially love to watch the extraordinary sunsets with a glass of wine. Because of the location of this home, you have amazing views no matter what time of day it is. We also love the close proximity to some of the restaurants that are on the south end of the island. The owners of Serenity are truly amazing. They make sure that everything is in order for your vacation. They really take care of their property and want you to enjoy their home. We highly recommend renting Serenity. It is our favorite home to rent in Hopetown."

  • Fantastic trip to Elbow Cay

"We have recently returned from a fantastic trip to Elbow Cay where we stayed at Blue Heaven. We were met by the property manager at the ferry dock and taken up to the property on a golf cart. The house is just as advertised and it is just a beautiful as it looks in the pictures. The beach is beautiful with white sand and a reef that is perfect for snorkeling right out front. In the 11 days we stayed at Blue Heaven we never saw more than a handful of people on the beach so it always felt like we almost had the beach to ourselves. While you are directly on the beach another nice thing is that you are also in the middle of Hopetown so it is a short walk to the coffee shop, restaurants and the small grocery stores. The owners provided a helpful list of restaurant menus, and things to do. We had a great time renting bikes (easy to get all the way around the island on bikes even with a 9 and 11 year old). We also rented a golf cart one day and spent the day at Tahiti Beach. We did a private boat charter with "Captain Plug" which was probably one of our best days. He took us to a deserted island to look for shells, our two boys caught a few fish that we ate that night and we also spent some time snorkeling at one of the national parks. Our best meal was at the FireFly Resort on White Sound (we called ahead and the picked us up with a golf cart). One comment about Elbow Cay that I had seen anywhere before we left is that there are no bank machines on the island and the bank is only open on Tuesday for a few hours. US cash is interchangeable with the Bahamanian currency so I would definitely recommend bringing a fair bit of US cash with you although we found that we could use credit cards for almost anything. Overall we would highly recommend Elbow Cay and can not think of a better place to stay than Blue Heaven."

  • Ideal

"My wife and I spent 10 extremely peaceful days at Annie's Skyward Cottage in November, just as the islands were preparing for the holidays and start of tourist season. The cottage is tucked into the backside of a dune on the Atlantic Ocean side, buffered from any winds by the dune, palms, and shrubs. The kitchen, a few steps from the cottage, is equipped with everything you need; refrigerator, stove/oven, toaster, microwave, coffee pots, and utensils. The cottage hosts the bedroom, bathroom, and sitting/TV room, and is stocked with many books, from fiction to local (I suggest the "History of an Out Island and its Cays" and "The Long Day Wanes") (and wifi covers the cottage and kitchen if you need a download). The interconnecting deck includes a pair of Adirondack Chairs overlooking the Atlantic and the beach (great place to start the morning). The beach is long and beautiful, quiet, gives up its sea glass, very swim-able, and depending on wind direction, good for SUPping or Surfing. The town is only about 100 yards down a sandy path, the harbor another 50 yards farther, meaning food, drink, bike/cart/boat rentals are steps away. The cottage could not be more ideal for balancing a little peace and quiet, with all the convenience of access to the island's amenities when the mood strikes. Remember to look skyward at night, the stars are beautiful. Thank you Annie for being a great host!"
