  • Great House & Great Beach on Great Guana Cay

"Our family just spent a wonderful, relaxing week on Great Guana Cay at this VRBO Rental "Little Bee." The house was perfect – just the right size and had everything we needed (we were a family of 4, which included 2 teenagers). The all-around screened porch was great, the views fantastic, and I have to say the hammocks were a huge hit!! And the privacy and distance to the beach (and town) were just right . Speaking of the beach – WOW!! I have to say that was the most incredible beach I’ve ever been to. The color of the water and softness of the sand were fabulous, and so peaceful. We also enjoyed listening to the marine report every morning at 8:15 am (after we enjoyed watching the sunrise.) It was nice to meet Sally (caretaker) and know that she was there if we needed her – she was great. Everyone on the island was nice – we utilized Donna’s cart rental and Dive Guana (and Knowles the cab drive on Marsh Harbour – so kind!). Boating around the islands was lots of fun and being out there in that turquoise water was a dream come true. I sure hope we can get back some day."

  • Quiet island time

"We just returned from a one week stay at Gumbo Limbo and had a very relaxing time there. The house is excellent quality with a real beachy feel from the decor to the views of ocean on both sides. The screened in porch is excellent and we ate all our meals out there as well as many card games. The no-see-ums will still get you at some point though. The house has lovely breezes so we only needed the fans on our last day. The community dock being nearby did mean some golf carts and people traipsing past but apart from that we rarely saw anyone at the semi private beach. The snorkelling was ok there, having snorkelled around the world it was acceptable. My husband saw a large manta ray and we saw a reef shark. There is fan coral and someone else saw a turtle. Most days it was a little windy on that side and some choppiness to the ocean but what amazing aqua water. You will need to rent a golf cart, I think that its not an option. I walked once from the beach but it wasn't possible to go right along the beach so it is a bit of a long walk. The track on the house side of the island degrades after the Orchid development into a very rough bumpy track. Being 22 weeks pregnant I often had to hop off and walk. So I'd be aware of this if you have problems with riding a bumpy track. Of course we sometimes didn't go into the town and enjoyed chilling out at the house. The garden is very nicely done and there are lots of great books to read as well as internet, radio, tv, dvds. The island does not have a huge array of dining options. We did dine at Nippers but felt Grabbers was better for a bit more Caribbean flare. We brought some groceries across on the ferry but did run low so went to the grocery store on the island which had just as much or little! You can get creative with a box of brownie mix, there's an oven, or make your own cocktails, there's a blender. There are quite a few feral cats on the island. There were three that hung around the house. Hope you like cats. Our little boy enjoyed giving them a few tidbits. We had quite the journey to get home due to lining up ferry, flights and customs. I'd allow a good amount of time between any connecting flights and make sure you know the ferry times, we had to wait around a bit for the last ferry but its right at Curly Tails so you can enjoy a drink and some conch fritters while waiting. Overall we had a very enjoyable holiday and it was what we wanted, quiet, beach and warm weather."

  • Perfect for couples

"This is the perfect rental for couples. The two bedrooms and bathrooms are identical in size and side by side so it makes it easy when you're traveling with another couple. The house is very clean and well equipped with plenty of cooking utensils and a microwave. The location is perfect - it's right on the bay with incredible views. We thoroughly enjoyed spending evenings out by the dock. The location is just a short golf cart away from everything you need including the grocery store, Nippers, Grabbers and the beach. We definitely plan to stay there again."

  • Loved it...exactly as described.

"We just returned from our stay on Great Guana Cay at L'il Gecko. The description "cute, cozy, convenient cottage at an outstanding price" is spot on. L'il Gecko is comfortably furnished and well stocked. The open floor plan and high ceilings make it seem more spacious. The view from the bed in the master is wonderful. We thought the location was perfect. It's close to the settlement, but yet has a private location. Not oceanfront but still great views. So close to a great beach access and the docks on the Sea of Abaco side. On our exploration of the island we didn't see anywhere we would rather stay, especially at the great price. Our most favorite parts of the cottage though are the lovely and extremely private tropical garden, the equally private and lovely outdoor shower and the very comfortably furnished screened porch. The owners were very helpful prior to our trip. Through email they sent very useful tips and information on the cottage and on Guana Cay. They also answered all our questions quickly and made us feel comfortable and prepared for our trip. The caretaker, Gina, met us at the dock on arrival and showed us the cottage and her husband stopped by to show us how to use the generator. We never needed it though as there was only one power outage and it was short in duration. Gina was also available to answer the couple of questions that arose during our stay. You can call her on the VHF, but we just sent a quick email that was shortly answered. Our ten days on Guana Cay were during the off-season and we very rarely saw another soul on the beach. Some days we saw NO ONE on the beach all day. We felt like we were on our own private island. There was hardly anyone at any of the restaurants either. I imagine it may be different during the season. The beaches at Guana are definitely it's strong point over the other two cays we visited by boat, Man-o-War and Elbow Cay. Those cays are beautiful too though and worth a visit if you rent a boat. Lots of great snorkeling too. Collin at Dive Guana was very helpful. The owner, Troy was on vacation while we were there. Go to Great Guana Cay and rent L'il Gecko. You'll be so happy you did."
