Berry Islands Travel Tips

Getting to Berry Islands Vacation Rentals

The Berry Islands are a group of about 30 islands which form the far northern part of the Bahama’s outer islands. The largest and most northerly island is Great Harbour Cay. This island is the main access point. The airport receives twice daily flights from Nassau on regional domestic airlines. A second airport on Chub Cay has twice weekly flights to the island. International travelers will need to route via Nassau in order to get a flight connection to the Berry Islands. Nassau has daily flight connections with major United States cities such as Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Atlanta, Washington DC and New York City. It is important to check the domestic flight schedule so you can coordinate same day flight connections. If this is not possible then you may need to stay overnight in Nassau. There are many private air charter companies that will operate private flights to the Berry Islands, weather permitting. An alternate way to get there is on the weekly ferry that operates from Nassau.

Berry Islands Travel Attractions

Main attractions of the islands are their seclusion and privacy which explains why it is a popular destination for celebrities. Many of the islands are uninhabited or privately owned. This means that you can cruise around to the different cays and enjoy a private picnic on a deserted beach. There are some great reefs for diving and snorkeling, and charters can be arranged from Great Harbour Cay. One of the more popular sites is the Mama Rhoda Rock which is a shallow spiky coral reef, home to abundant reef fish and a number of resident moray eels. On Great Stirrup Cay, you can visit a lighthouse that dates back to 1863. Deep sea fishing is one of the popular pastimes and professional deep sea charter companies provide excursions from Great Harbour Cay upon request. If you enjoy sailing or cruising, you can also charter a boat to take you to explore many of the nearby uninhabited cays. Take along your sunhat and snorkeling gear so you can explore some of the shallow reefs.

Luxurious Style at Berry Islands Resorts

The Berry Islands are a typical tropical paradise. With its beautiful white beaches, calm turquoise waters and tall flowing palm trees, it is no wonder that it has become a favorite travel destination for the rich and famous. The resorts cater for the up-market traveler and many of the vacation homes reflect an elegant style that these types of travelers are used to. Many of the homes are elegantly appointed with sweeping views over private stretches of beach. In general, the vacation apartments and villas are large, spacious and furnished with stylish furniture and a host of modern appliances. Many of the homes are fully serviced, and private chefs can often be arranged upon request so you do not need to hassle with preparing meals.

Bahamas Vacation Rentals in Berry Islands

Because of their location in the Caribbean, the Bahamas enjoy a year-round warm tropical climate. The only travel caution is that the islands do fall within the hurricane belt. Tropical storms occur in the late summer months and this is viewed as the low tourist season. Seasonal rain showers do also occur through the summer months. The winter months are typically drier and often the preferred season to visit. For the Berry Islands, this is usually the peak season. Between December and April, many visitors travel to the islands to escape from colder northern climates and enjoy some relaxation in the sun.
