  • Love Swept Away!

"We had some challenges getting to Staniel Cay. Our flight was delayed out of Newark to Nassau due to plane maintenance issue and we missed our connection flight to Staniel Cay. We ended up spending a night in Nassau. Barry, thank you for going the extra mile helping us get to Staniel Cay! You checked in with us as we arrived, making sure we had everything we needed to be comfortable and enjoy our vacation. Milly (housekeeper) is very sweet. She picked us up at the airport, showed us how to get around town and everything else we needed during our stay. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us and letting us use your golf cart! We love the décor of the house. We enjoyed relaxing on the deck and just admiring the beauty of the island. Your Swept Away home is the perfect location on the island. Very close to stores, restaurants and quiet beaches. We loved the beach closest to the Swept Away home. It’s always quiet there and made us feel like we have the whole island to ourselves. People on the island are very friendly. We enjoyed eating local foods and buying fresh homemade bread from Emil’s. The beaches here have the most pristine water we’ve ever seen. We loved visiting the pig beach. We will be back for sure to create new memories!"

  • Definitely a place to stay - NO REGRETS!

"Enjoyed our stay immensely. The pools and water slides at the Atlantis were awesome. The kids (and adults too) enjoyed our time. A unanimous family vote that a repeat trip will be scheduled in 2015. Well worth the value. And the amazing sunsets were a nightly bonus!"

  • Absolutely AMAZING!!!

"My husband and I just had a 10 day vacation and stayed at the Hide Away. It is just that! We loved every minute of our stay. The house is very nice, clean and well equipped. The tiki hut by the beach is wonderful. I even had a massage therapist, Sheila, give me a massage under the tiki hut. She also makes amazing homemade bread. We only had 3 people to walk past our house in 10 days. It is definitely secluded and just what we wanted. This was our 3rd year in a row to vacation at Cat Island. We love this place and will return next year to the same house! Be prepared to be without phone service and internet from time to time. Cat Island looses service often. We had a rental car everyday and visited lots of places on the island. Fernandez Bay is a nice place to eat and also Shanna's Cove. The food, service, and company are great at both places. The locals are so friendly and helpful. You can actually feel safe here. It's not like any other place. Be sure and pick coconuts and mangos from the trees on the side of the road. They are wonderful. We feel truly blessed to have found this piece of paradise and we thank the Jenkins for sharing it with us."

Berry Islands Travel Tips

Getting to Berry Islands Vacation Rentals

The Berry Islands are a group of about 30 islands which form the far northern part of the Bahama’s outer islands. The largest and most northerly island is Great Harbour Cay. This island is the main access point. The airport receives twice daily flights from Nassau on regional domestic airlines. A second airport on Chub Cay has twice weekly flights to the island. International travelers will need to route via Nassau in order to get a flight connection to the Berry Islands. Nassau has daily flight connections with major United States cities such as Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Atlanta, Washington DC and New York City. It is important to check the domestic flight schedule so you can coordinate same day flight connections. If this is not possible then you may need to stay overnight in Nassau. There are many private air charter companies that will operate private flights to the Berry Islands, weather permitting. An alternate way to get there is on the weekly ferry that operates from Nassau.

Berry Islands Travel Attractions

Main attractions of the islands are their seclusion and privacy which explains why it is a popular destination for celebrities. Many of the islands are uninhabited or privately owned. This means that you can cruise around to the different cays and enjoy a private picnic on a deserted beach. There are some great reefs for diving and snorkeling, and charters can be arranged from Great Harbour Cay. One of the more popular sites is the Mama Rhoda Rock which is a shallow spiky coral reef, home to abundant reef fish and a number of resident moray eels. On Great Stirrup Cay, you can visit a lighthouse that dates back to 1863. Deep sea fishing is one of the popular pastimes and professional deep sea charter companies provide excursions from Great Harbour Cay upon request. If you enjoy sailing or cruising, you can also charter a boat to take you to explore many of the nearby uninhabited cays. Take along your sunhat and snorkeling gear so you can explore some of the shallow reefs.

Luxurious Style at Berry Islands Resorts

The Berry Islands are a typical tropical paradise. With its beautiful white beaches, calm turquoise waters and tall flowing palm trees, it is no wonder that it has become a favorite travel destination for the rich and famous. The resorts cater for the up-market traveler and many of the vacation homes reflect an elegant style that these types of travelers are used to. Many of the homes are elegantly appointed with sweeping views over private stretches of beach. In general, the vacation apartments and villas are large, spacious and furnished with stylish furniture and a host of modern appliances. Many of the homes are fully serviced, and private chefs can often be arranged upon request so you do not need to hassle with preparing meals.

Bahamas Vacation Rentals in Berry Islands

Because of their location in the Caribbean, the Bahamas enjoy a year-round warm tropical climate. The only travel caution is that the islands do fall within the hurricane belt. Tropical storms occur in the late summer months and this is viewed as the low tourist season. Seasonal rain showers do also occur through the summer months. The winter months are typically drier and often the preferred season to visit. For the Berry Islands, this is usually the peak season. Between December and April, many visitors travel to the islands to escape from colder northern climates and enjoy some relaxation in the sun.
