  • A great home away from home

"My cousin, my 1 year old and my 3 year old stayed at this property for 9 days. I would highly recommend it. The house itself is extremely well appointed, and the pictures don't do it justice. There is an enormous yard, a shaded front/side porch and a back veranda for eating. Inside the house, the kitchen has everything that you could need, the ceilings are high and it is quite spacious. One warning: light sleepers beware! The roosters are LOUD and start as early as 3am. Also, the house is old so on windy nights there can be a bit of rattling. That said, after one VERY windy night where things were rattling all over the place, I mentioned this difficulty to Angelika, the property manager. She had somebody there within hours to batten down the hatches. Speaking of Angelika--she could not have been more helpful or responsive. She saved the day for us on several occasions, always making it seem as though we weren't being a nuisance. Really great customer service. The house was a short walk into town, but a longer walk (about 20 min) to the beach. Most people rent cars, which we did for 2 of the 9 days. We got a good workout every day, that's for sure. French leave beach is lovely, once you get past the seaweed. We were often on that amazing beach alone. Crazy. One thing that we didn't come across until the end, which would have been good to know in advance: there is a really big grocery store with tons of different kinds of foods at Rock Sound. My cousin is a vegan, and there wasn't so much at the Governor's Harbour grocery stores. Nick, the owner, was very easy to deal with throughout the booking process, and was helpful in providing us with information."

  • Eleuthera on my mind

"This cottage is absolutely perfect! Let me start by saying, if you don't know exactly where to turn, you would never find this gem, it's well hidden at the end of a mile long driveway! The last half mile up to the house has beautiful landscaping on both sides of the drive, orchids on the trees, pineapples, mango trees, and on and on! The owner's retirement house is right next to the cottage, but he will be absent from his house during your stay at your request. He and his property manager will take care of every last detail from picking you up at the airport, to buying groceries for you, to giving all kinds of helpful info about the house and the island. The house itself is a very well built 450 square foot bungalow. Basically just one open space, and a bathroom. (I never used the inside shower because the shower on the outside, back of the house is awesome!!) it has a screened front porch that is perfect for an evening meal. There is a large flat screen tv with satellite service which works great, there was no DVD player when we were there, but we didn't really care, didn't need it! The beach is completely secluded from all access other than by coming in from the ocean. It's a short walk down a fifty foot concrete stair way. The beach itself is kind of rocky and small, (I'm sure that changes with the seasons), but that didn't matter much to us because the water is amazing! The snorkeling and kayaking are fantastic! I snorkeled all the way around both sides of the cove where the water became deeper and felt like the coral and fish were plentiful and beautiful! Saw two, four foot wide stingrays, found 70 sand dollars, a small nurse shark, sunbathed in our birthday suites and on and on!! THIS PLACE IS PARADISE!!!"

  • sunset sunset sunset.........

"The house was perfect for us. As many wrote prior, being at the house was one of the best parts of being in Eleuthera. Exploring different beaches and different parts of the island was wonderful and adventurous!! We loved Ten Bay the best (great shallow water and great to sunbathe) but others closer by were beautiful as well. Unca Genes was one of our favorites places to eat lunch as was the Rainbow Inn for dinner. The Front Porch was fantastic as well. We became friends with the staffs everywhere we went. We even had one of the families over for dinner one eve. Tippys was worth the drive. Driving at night is difficult so plan day trips. We ate dinner in most nights because we didnt want to leave the sunset and house. Having a grill was great. we used it often. the local organic produce place in town (Roots) was fantastic. Try the hot peppers if u can take heat! patties at 7-11 were so good! try them! All the info in Scotts notes, Phillips recommendations and guest books are great. and do some research on your own. Some minor negatives.... no beach chairs if you like sitting on the beach for hours but you can probably rent them somewhere - perhaps Rachels in town - (where we also bought some local fish). I didnt mind not having a beach chair but my husband likes a beach chair. We went to The Cove for a day and used all their amenities which was fabulous for $35pp/half day. Well worth it in our opinion. The lagoon was such a special treat to have in the backyard. Unfortunately we did not see many varieties of fish but my husband saw a gigantic ray when snorkeling (Im glad i missed it!) and we saw a million minnows daily and a small ray. My husband fished everyday in the lagoon but didnt catch a thing unfortunately but he still loved every minute of it having a fishing pole in his hand in his backyard. So the negatives were not so negative being in such a fabulous place / island. Some other things to note...there are many hitch hikers. we picked up a few which was a bit scary but we became one of the locals and made many friends with the restaurant and store owners. weather was perfect. We never even put the air on in the house. and we did not have any issue with bugs. i was prepared just in case. Floating on our rafts in the lagoon was like nothing i've ever experienced. we had a ball! No neighbors in the house next door while we were there so we never saw anyone while at the house. We will be back for sure!!"

  • well appointed home with spectacular views

"This was a lovely house with a wall of patio doors providing a stunning view. The listing description is accurate and the photos simply don't do justice to the beauty of the overall location - the wrap-around porch and panoramic view was breathtaking. The property was clean and well-maintained. All appliances were quite new and worked well. The road is paved all the way to the house. The outdoor shower was also a very nice touch. We travelled with our two children - 6 and a half and 9 - and found the place to be suitable for children, with plenty of spots to safely introduce them to the ocean. The beach out front had everything: swimming, nice pink sand, waves (sometimes), fantastic snorkeling, lots of wildlife - the kids loved it. The property is very conveniently located and we were able to visit both the north and south of the island with ease. There were dozens of beaches on both the Atlantic and Caribbean and restaurants within 20min. drive. Our kid-friendly favorites were Airport Beach (by the house), Alabaster Beach, Twin Sisters Beach, Gaulding Cay. Nearby towns include Governor's Harbour, James Cistern, Alicetown, Rainbow Bay, Gregorytown - all were very friendly and safe. We would gladly recommend Bonefish Barbi's to anyone except people with serious mobility issues - there is a set of 30 or so steps down to the beach immediately off the back of the house - and it exceeded our expectations. The owner was extremely helpful and responsive, and the welcome package was jammed full of useful and detailed information that we used extensively during our stay."
