  • Great week at La Bougainvillea

"My wife and two young children, and myself, just returned from 8 nights at La Bougainvillea. It's a great property on a quiet beach, with a huge backyard. The weather was a bit cooler than average while we were there, so we didn't take advantage of the pool, but it's nice and very close to the house. We had a wonderful concierge, Shorlette Williams, helping us during our entire trip. She had the house stocked with everything we had asked for when we arrived, and she arranged for two wonderful babysitters for our little ones. The only real drawback to the house is that you have to go outside to access each different portion of the house. This wouldn't have been much of an issue at all, but the weather was cool in the mornings especially, so it took a little adjusting. Just a quirky design, not really a negative. We were also able to tour their sister property next door, 7 Palms, it's a beautiful home...a bit more modern than Bougainvillea, and twice as many bedrooms. All in all, a fantastic, centrally located villa that's well taken care of. If you've never been to Eleuthera, this is a great location to check out, as it's easy to head north or south on any given day, and see different parts of the island. Thanks for a great week!"

  • A great home away from home

"My cousin, my 1 year old and my 3 year old stayed at this property for 9 days. I would highly recommend it. The house itself is extremely well appointed, and the pictures don't do it justice. There is an enormous yard, a shaded front/side porch and a back veranda for eating. Inside the house, the kitchen has everything that you could need, the ceilings are high and it is quite spacious. One warning: light sleepers beware! The roosters are LOUD and start as early as 3am. Also, the house is old so on windy nights there can be a bit of rattling. That said, after one VERY windy night where things were rattling all over the place, I mentioned this difficulty to Angelika, the property manager. She had somebody there within hours to batten down the hatches. Speaking of Angelika--she could not have been more helpful or responsive. She saved the day for us on several occasions, always making it seem as though we weren't being a nuisance. Really great customer service. The house was a short walk into town, but a longer walk (about 20 min) to the beach. Most people rent cars, which we did for 2 of the 9 days. We got a good workout every day, that's for sure. French leave beach is lovely, once you get past the seaweed. We were often on that amazing beach alone. Crazy. One thing that we didn't come across until the end, which would have been good to know in advance: there is a really big grocery store with tons of different kinds of foods at Rock Sound. My cousin is a vegan, and there wasn't so much at the Governor's Harbour grocery stores. Nick, the owner, was very easy to deal with throughout the booking process, and was helpful in providing us with information."

  • Reluctant (wink) 5-Star Review

"We hesitate to brag about Amori House only because our selfishness does not want Ten Bay to become popular...can't it remain the secret of just a few? The seclusion in plain sight is awesome. Amori is the PERFECT spot for human battery recharge. Our return visit to old friend Ten Bay was greatly enhanced with the ability to reside on the beach. It truly does not get any better than Amori House with post card sunsets, best beach lounging in the Bahamas, no-drift floating in the bay, pressure free snorkling, calm kayaking waters, Causarina shade for book reading and just enough Wi-Fi to gloat on FaceBook. Ama is such a gracious owner to offer their home for others to enjoy and was great to work with in advance of our trip. Island Farms' Anne set us up for our stay and then had all the great veggies, pesto, sauces and breads to highlight our home cooked meals. Then there's Double Bay just a few minutes to the other side of the island for sunrises and beach lounging seclusion. Check out some of Eleuthera's other lonely, pristine, pink sand beaches on the Atlantic side (Whiteland was superb), but you'll find yourself back at Ten Bay treating yourself to 4 o'clock cocktails and Kalik."

  • A perfect getaway

"Scott’s place was truly amazing! My husband and I wanted to get away from the city and the stress of work and we found the perfect place. The sunset from the porch was beautiful and we fell asleep early every night listening to the ocean. The lagoon was amazing and my husband would sit and watch for fish every night which is one of his favorite things to do. On the not so windy days, it was fun to swim and play around in! We rented the car from Scott which worked out perfectly. The bed was comfortable and there were AC units in both the bedroom and the main room to cool down the house after the hot day. In the mornings we would open up the windows to feel the breeze. We only used the toaster for breakfast, but there were pots and pans if we had wanted to cook. There was even a small charcoal grill set inside the cliff by the porch. If you are looking for a place to escape the pressures of a busy life and want to feel like you are the only tourist on the island, this is the place for you. We were the only couple on all of the beaches on both the south and north part of the island. The locals were friendly and very helpful. Unca Genes was our go to lunch spot and we ate at the Rainbow Inn twice for dinner (Monday night is pizza night with a live band but you need a reservation). Some advice would be to pack a soft cooler for the beach; we were unable to find one in town. We brought beach mats, floats, and beach towels with us. Also, bring a lot of cash as most of the places do not take credit cards (there are a few ATM’s on the island if needed) I do not remember the name, but there is a really good breakfast place right across from the airport if you have a morning flight. You can check in and then run across the street to eat. This was by far the best vacation we have ever experienced and we plan on coming back to "paradise" many more times in the future!"
