  • Peaceful Bliss!!

"Our time at SurfSong was one of the most wonderful weeks of my life. We had near-perfect weather, and since our visit came a bit after the main 'season', we had one of the most beautiful beaches in the world largely to ourselves. Every day upon waking to the sound of the surf, I would look out the window and be amazed at the opportunity to be in such a beautiful, peaceful place. SurfSong is a great mix of casual beach house with the comforts of home. Since it's not close to resorts or towns, it's like a private paradise. Winnie, the housekeeper, came every day and put fresh flowers in every room and made sure the house was clean. She was helpful and unobtrusive - and I wanted to record her laugh so I could hear it again when I got back to the US! It take a bit of driving to get to the nearest store or restaurant, so Surfsong is best for people who enjoy preparing and sharing meals together. We had some incredible meals made with fish caught that day by the fisherman of Tarpum Bay (about 20 minutes away). As a side note, getting used to driving on the left hand side of the road - even with a US car with the steering wheel on the left side - was easy. The biggest challenge was coming up with any reason to leave the house and beach!) That said, a day trip to Harbour Island (a short boat trip from the dock near the North Eleuthera airport) is a fantastic outing. The drive to get there takes you across the Glass Window bridge with the Atlantic on one-side and the Caribbean on the other - a stunning and beautiful natural spectacle. Harbour Island has numerous restaurants and other tourist attractions and can be toured by renting a golf cart upon arrival at the dock. (The beach is rated as one of the 5 best in the world! - and the beach at Surfsong was comparable!) I give SurfSong my highest recommendation for any group that wants a beautiful, peaceful getaway."

  • A great home away from home

"My cousin, my 1 year old and my 3 year old stayed at this property for 9 days. I would highly recommend it. The house itself is extremely well appointed, and the pictures don't do it justice. There is an enormous yard, a shaded front/side porch and a back veranda for eating. Inside the house, the kitchen has everything that you could need, the ceilings are high and it is quite spacious. One warning: light sleepers beware! The roosters are LOUD and start as early as 3am. Also, the house is old so on windy nights there can be a bit of rattling. That said, after one VERY windy night where things were rattling all over the place, I mentioned this difficulty to Angelika, the property manager. She had somebody there within hours to batten down the hatches. Speaking of Angelika--she could not have been more helpful or responsive. She saved the day for us on several occasions, always making it seem as though we weren't being a nuisance. Really great customer service. The house was a short walk into town, but a longer walk (about 20 min) to the beach. Most people rent cars, which we did for 2 of the 9 days. We got a good workout every day, that's for sure. French leave beach is lovely, once you get past the seaweed. We were often on that amazing beach alone. Crazy. One thing that we didn't come across until the end, which would have been good to know in advance: there is a really big grocery store with tons of different kinds of foods at Rock Sound. My cousin is a vegan, and there wasn't so much at the Governor's Harbour grocery stores. Nick, the owner, was very easy to deal with throughout the booking process, and was helpful in providing us with information."

  • Great week at La Bougainvillea

"My wife and two young children, and myself, just returned from 8 nights at La Bougainvillea. It's a great property on a quiet beach, with a huge backyard. The weather was a bit cooler than average while we were there, so we didn't take advantage of the pool, but it's nice and very close to the house. We had a wonderful concierge, Shorlette Williams, helping us during our entire trip. She had the house stocked with everything we had asked for when we arrived, and she arranged for two wonderful babysitters for our little ones. The only real drawback to the house is that you have to go outside to access each different portion of the house. This wouldn't have been much of an issue at all, but the weather was cool in the mornings especially, so it took a little adjusting. Just a quirky design, not really a negative. We were also able to tour their sister property next door, 7 Palms, it's a beautiful home...a bit more modern than Bougainvillea, and twice as many bedrooms. All in all, a fantastic, centrally located villa that's well taken care of. If you've never been to Eleuthera, this is a great location to check out, as it's easy to head north or south on any given day, and see different parts of the island. Thanks for a great week!"

  • TOTAL BLISS AT KOKOMO

"As soon as we arrived at KOKOMO I felt the stress and worries of everyday living just melt away. We vaca'd with a Community couple and although the house is set-up as 2 individual living quarters, we all seemed to only use the beachfront kitchen that went directly out to massive cement veranda with that stunning Mermaid sculpture. We shopped, dived, snorkeled, kayaked, prepared scrumptious dinners, ate out locally, got to meet the Owners that I'd been e'ing for tips, etc. Fabulous couple. If you go, there's a perfect, pristine beach as you leave KOKOMO and head out to Queens Highway, it has a sign on the left that reads: CrocoMama (next to old Military Base) and the beaches are literally the most gorgeous we've ever seen and we've been to many, many beaches. The Owner equipped the house with everything you could possibly want; literally. It was SO MUCH BETTER than staying at a hotel. We loved the privacy and our own run of the beach and 2 dogs that show up faithfully to be fed and you could tell they loved their lifestyle....who wouldn't? We're telling all our friends and may possibly be back to KOKOMO. It is just the perfect place to wind down and forget all the busy. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!"
