  • Lovely - With Plenty of Everything!

"Balara Manor is absolutely charming, with lot's of Bahamian colors, character and plenty of everything your family will need for a wonderful vacation. The beds, linens, towels are abundant and top-notch. Everyone will have privacy and space to unwind. You may not need to use the same bathroom twice (there are many full bathrooms). Outside, the grounds are lovingly maintained and very private, with expansive views of Balara Bay. Coffee at sunrise and pina coladas at sunset from the covered patio became an easy routine. Located in the center of the island, right near Governor's Harbor, you'll have easy access gas stations, restaurants, and a little shopping. Excellent "home base" for your daily excursions. We loved it! Matt Simon at Eleuthera Vacation Rentals, and his assistant, were helpful and attentive from the planning phase and throughout our visit. I highly recommend! The homeowners were also very attentive and helpful. There is a "blue book" -- a three ring binder -- on site at the property with excellent beach and day-trip ideas. Tips for family travelers: avoid our mistakes & what we would do next time ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- * There is no sense of urgency on Eleuthera; sometimes things work, sometimes they don't. PRINT & BRING your research notes to make the most of your time. Reserve fishing/snorkeling in advance, and book back-up dates to avoid disappointment and unavailability. * Be sure your cell phones are set up with a global plan BEFORE you get to the Bahamas. * Bring a cooler of frozen food to help defray dining expenses (and you'll have a cooler to use for the beach). * If your short on vacation time, bring a GPS for your rental car and look for cell phone App to help you find the best hidden beaches. We could have been much more efficient in finding and getting to the beaches. It's fun to explore, but our time was so limited we wished we were better prepared. * You'll need more cash than you think... not many places take credit cards. *Don't forget insect repellent, anti-itch cream (no-see-ums) and lots of sunblock -- very expensive and limited selection at the convenience stores. (There is an Aloe Vera plant in the Balara's garden which helps with the bug bites.)"

  • FABULOUS LOCATION!

"Our family ( 5 adults/ 4 young children) spent 10 glorious days at " On The Rocks". This is a classic, comfortable island home with a layout that worked well for 2 families w/ children and the grandparents. This location is prime. Situated on a long stretch of fine, pink sand, the rocks are a natural barrier, creating wonderful tide pools and gentle waves. Perfect for the children to play . After exploring the island, including the Carribean side, we all decided the beach at " On the Rocks" is by far the best on the island. We loved our stay there. Patricia is a wonderful, responsive owner to work with. This being our first island visit we had lots of questions. She was extremely helpful in assisting us with taxi arrangements. car rental, a cook, and other small requests. I also want to address the previous review about the robbery. Any robbery is upsetting and we were concerned about safety, We were pleased to hear the culprit was quickly apprehended and there have been no problems since. We felt very comfortable staying there."

  • Amazing property, grounds, beach and snorkeling

"I booked this property, as well as the adjoining La Bougainvillea home, as a surprise for my wife's birthday. I had many inquiries and the property manager was very accommodating and helping to arrange for the surprise. This will be a long review but will include some tips we learned about Eleuthera and the area. In short, we had 15 guests and it was AMAZING. The grounds and homes are pristine with unmatched views. I travel often and haven't experienced this level of paradise before. Homes are in excellent condition, well equipped for entertaining and cooking and the staff is very attentive. There are NO negatives with these homes or property. The beach is breathtaking and the snorkeling is amazing right off the beach. We experienced as many as 25 species of fish within yards of the beach. Kayaking just off shore brings you reefs of 40 feet deep and amazing fish and coral. We experienced all kinds of lizards, crabs, etc. We also learned how to harvest fresh coconut milk from the trees and used it every day for drinks, etc. Amazing. The only drawback was the biting sand flies (no see-ums) which are aggressive and prevalent due to nightly rains and a roving pack of wild(?) dogs that come through a few times. Dogs appear harmless and want to avoid people completely. Deep Woods OFF was the only thing that worked for bugs and it was not 100%. List of Do's: Experience the island and people, snorkel, swim at night with full moon, Governor's Harbor Fish Fry (So much fun), buy fresh fish and lobster off the ramp in Governor's Harbor, eat and drink at Tippy's (right down the road), MUCH more! Don't Eat at Unique's (bad food and service), don't go outside without generous bug spray, don't leave personal items outside the home as we had some dogs "play" with our items like flipflops, suits, etc one night (no damage). We will return to this area and hope to stay in these homes again soon!"

  • Perfect Vacation

"We just got back from two amazing weeks at Dolphin House! What a dream! The house is very nice and the huge veranda is fabulous. We went to a lot of other beaches, Lighthouse, Ten Bay, Alabaster, Gaulding Cay, etc, and I have to say, some of the best snorkeling was right there in Rainbow Bay. Even if you didn't rent a car for your entire stay, you could stay entertained and busy right from the house. Several nice Atlantic side beaches are close enough to ride the bikes to. We saw queen angelfish, starfish, 3 kinds of rays, tubeworms, grouper and dozens of other species of beautiful fish at Rainbow beach. We found lots of sand dollars right in front of the house. Sitting on the veranda in the evenings we saw a whale and dolphins. We absolutely loved being able to swim or kayak right from the property. The herbs in the garden were great to have on hand and we used some when cooking our meals. I was pleasantly surprised to find the lemon grass! I think we found the best rental on the island! The people of Eleuthera are so friendly and we felt completely safe everywhere we went. Kean, Billy and Brenda are wonderful and I recommend the Stubbs BBQ to anyone staying in the area. We hope to return soon!"
