  • Love Swept Away!

"We had some challenges getting to Staniel Cay. Our flight was delayed out of Newark to Nassau due to plane maintenance issue and we missed our connection flight to Staniel Cay. We ended up spending a night in Nassau. Barry, thank you for going the extra mile helping us get to Staniel Cay! You checked in with us as we arrived, making sure we had everything we needed to be comfortable and enjoy our vacation. Milly (housekeeper) is very sweet. She picked us up at the airport, showed us how to get around town and everything else we needed during our stay. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us and letting us use your golf cart! We love the décor of the house. We enjoyed relaxing on the deck and just admiring the beauty of the island. Your Swept Away home is the perfect location on the island. Very close to stores, restaurants and quiet beaches. We loved the beach closest to the Swept Away home. It’s always quiet there and made us feel like we have the whole island to ourselves. People on the island are very friendly. We enjoyed eating local foods and buying fresh homemade bread from Emil’s. The beaches here have the most pristine water we’ve ever seen. We loved visiting the pig beach. We will be back for sure to create new memories!"

  • Quiet Exuma Getaway.

"Exuma is a beautiful island. A great place to go if you want to relax with a a good book or rest in a comfortable hammock with an amazing view. Johannas place is as lovely as she is. It is clean and well equipped with everything you would probably need. Her location is on a very quiet part of the island. (Probably 20 minutes from Georgetown) We were able to use her 2 kayaks to kayak to beautiful little deserted islands. We also kayaked down to the new Turquoise Cay ($$$$) Restaurant (Excellent food and ambience). We snorkeled once out in front of the dock. Not a lot to see under water compared to other islands that we've been to. The best part of Exuma is the views! Favorite meals were at Santana's $22 double lobster tails and Latitudes - good food and fun bartender Alex!"

  • Lovely winter sun in Exuma!

"My husband and I stayed in Exuma at the Beachfront villa for 5 nights. We had a lovely time in this very homely villa. Well equipped, well decorated and very comfortable. The beach view from the bedroom is amazing! A really safe and secure resort with all the facilities you need while not being too commercialised- perfect combination! Highly recommend a stay here!"

  • True Paradise!!!!

"I don't know where to begin on our two week trip to Black Point Cay. I started researching places to stay in the Exumas about a year ago. I came across this home on the water and couldn't believe the photos. I decided this was the place and made contact with the owner. Henry was extremely accommodating and gave us all the details with regards to the property and will work with your budget. The next thing you know we arrived on June 18th 2014 and immediately was greeted at the airport and escorted to the property. I can surely tell anyone the property photos do not do it justice. When you step foot on the property it will take your breath away. You have two oceans within a one minute walk. I couldn't decided on what side I was going to have my coffee in the morning. The locals are very helpful when you are looking for something or may need to make dinner reservation, which I highly recommend. Deshamon's was a great restaurant with great Bahamian food. I think we ate there every night. Scorpio's has a great Happy Hour and both places will accept Visa. Lorraine's Café has bread to die for, but if you can't get it there Deshamon's (Dianne's mom) can facilitate the request as well. Henry's place has a boat for rent and I highly recommend you take advantage of it. A guide upon request would also be helpful (Extra cost for guide but worth every penny) since they know the hidden spots. I recommend DJ who was our guide and the kids loved him. Henry really makes this a truly relaxing vacation. If you are looking for complete R&R and just want to get away from it all then just email Henry and make it happen. A few extras that you need to know before coming, I recommend you send a list of groceries you would want waiting for you and don't wait last minute. This way you have all your basics there because getting groceries on the island can be slow since most of it comes by boat once a week. Henry can surely help with this before you arrive but make the arrangements. The other thing is bring enough cash, although there are two places to pay for dinner, all your groceries would be cash. I cant recommend how much, but food and drinks can be a bit more than what you are used to in the US. I can truly say that nobody could walk away after staying here without being taken away. The houses are exceptionally maintained and extra linens for extended stays. There is a washer and dryer for guest use along with detergent. BEST PLACE EVER! We will be back in 2016!!"

The Exumas Travel Tips

Discover Paradise in Exumas Vacation Rentals

From the capital of George Town to the tiny uninhabited cays, Exumas is a joy to discover. The capital was founded in 1783 by American Loyalists, fleeing the New Republic. It has a fascinating history, full of 17th-century pirates, plantations and its links to both the British and U.S. Navies during World War II and much more. The Tropic of Cancer runs through the city. The chain of cays making up Exumas extends some 130 miles long. Exumas travel could not be easier. To find this delightful area, fly to Exuma International Airport. Famous for its year-round great weather, the Exumas resorts are a perfect escape at any time of year.

Much More Than Just a Beach Vacation

On the main island of Great Exuma, visitors will find the delightful pink and white government building, inspired by buildings on Nassau. This quaint town has gift shops, just two grocery stores and a great straw market, where visitors can buy local handicrafts. There are also excellent pubs and plenty of evening activities. Visitors will find the area around Government Wharf is where the locals head.

Outside of the main town, there are plenty of opportunities to explore. Head to Three Sister Rock where, legend has it, three sisters drowned trying to swim out to meet their lovers. Nearby is a wonderful beach, perfect for some snorkeling. The Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park is a protected environment, and unique for its incredible marine habitat with tropical fish and lobsters. Here, there are several public cays to explore, some of which are only reachable by boat.

A point of interest for many visitors are the stromatolites--a reef-forming algae, and some of the rarest living creatures on earth. Some are thought to be in excess of 2,000 years old and fossils of stromatolites dating back some 3.5 billion years have been found here. Also, at Allan’s Cay visitors will enjoy spotting the iguanas. The Hermitage is the remains of a short-lived cotton plantation, with the remains of the original house and graves dating from the 1700s. A unique experience at Major Cay is swimming with the local pigs. It is also a great place for snorkeling. And a visit to Thunderball Grotto is a must. The Grotto was featured in two James Bond films. This is a great spot for divers as the pristine waters reflect the sun’s rays to give incredible views of the fish beneath. Golf lovers choosing Exumas vacation rentals will enjoy the course designed by Greg Norman at Emerald Bay.

Ideal for Divers and Snorkelers

Exumas resorts are, naturally, ideal for watersports and activities. Visitors can rent a boat or take a charter out to fish or explore the dive sites. There are several caves, such as those at Angelfish Blue Hole or Exuma Land and Sea Park. There are a variety of reefs to explore, such as those at Exuma Land and Sea Park, Pagoda Reef, and Sting Ray Reef, an ideal place to observe a wide range of fish. The list of snorkeling sites is impressive and includes Harbour Buoy, Loaded Barrel Reef, Jolly Hall, Duck Cays, and Bird Cay.

Perfect Properties on Paradise

Exumas vacation rentals offer an incredible array of properties, many just steps from the crystal-clear waters. With exceptional properties, in glorious locations, on a variety of cays, there is the perfect property for everyone. Each comes fully equipped with everything to make a vacation property feel like home. Many come with luxury extras such as cable and satellite TV, CD/DVD players with film and music libraries, BBQs, decks, outdoor showers and even beach towels! Many of these perfect homes also provide a warm welcome for pets.
