Recent Great Exuma reviews

  • Beautiful Island - Beautiful Island Home!

"We couldn’t have been more pleased with our rental of Mayaguana House on our recent visit to the Exumas. It is just such a wonderful property with everything we were looking for. The 180 degree turquoise water views from the house are mesmerizing. The shaded terrace with a variety of very comfortable furnishings for snoozing, lounging or dining were ideal for morning coffee and refreshing after a busy day exploring the island. The abundant and well-kept gardens with meandering paths leading to secluded sitting areas or water access made it feel like you were at a resort. The private beach less than 2 minutes walk down a flower lined path was delightful, and just 50 ft further a private beach park all to ourselves! The great location off the Queen’s Highway in the middle of the island, close to Georgetown makes it an ideal base to explore the island. As beautiful as the outside spaces were, the inside spaces were just as nice with high quality, comfortable furnishings, great beds with good linens, A/C throughout the house which only was needed at night to cool down as the breezes coming off the water help cool the house. The house is tastefully decorated with unique island art and Caribbean sea theme. The kitchen is so well-equipped and stocked and all appliances in working order made dining in feel like you were at your own home! We didn’t want for any item, it was all there. Wireless Internet, Satellite TV and an In-House + Terrace music system all nice additions in perfect working order to keep in touch back home and add an entertainment option when desired. When venturing out to explore the beautiful island we had everything we needed, all provided by Mayaguana; beach towels, beach chairs, beach umbrella, picnic basket, multiple coolers of various sizes, beer coozies for your Kalik! We rented a boat for two days from Minns and having all these items made it so easy to boat to our own private island and be fully comfortable and equipped! Pam, the owner, was very easy to work with; very responsive and made the rental and arrival process a breeze! We have been renting island properties for the last 10 years on our travels across the Caribbean and Mayaguana is truly one of the best we have stayed at. Highly Recommended!"

  • STUNNING LOCATION

"We had such a fantastic time in Exuma and at Palm Bay. Rachel was great to work with and was very prompt in getting back to us with any questions, and I had many. The cottage is better than the pictures and has everything you would need. The property was extremely clean and maintained. We loved being so close to the ocean. The pictures are exactly what you see from the room. We enjoyed the restaurant (the food was standard bar food. Great pizza though) and the pool after a long day of exploring the island. The beach around the corner, Jolly Holly was quite stunning. Very quiet and beautiful. We rented a car for the day (Thompson's is a 30 second walk from the front desk) and travelled to Santana's (THE BEST grouper I have ever eaten), Momma's bakery (right next to Santana's for coconut bread) and the Tropic of Cancer beach (spectacular). We also went on a boat ride (4 C's) to swim with pigs and nurse sharks, took a water taxi from Georgetown to Stocking Island to try the roasted pig (Sunday's only) and saw there sting rays and a dolphin. Then come back to the resort for a swim and enjoyed a cold beer on the front patio of our room. We truly had a wonderful vacation. Without a doubt, We would come back and stay at your place in a heartbeat. Thank you Rachel and Ed."

  • Beautiful and very relaxing island getaway!!

"My wife and I stayed at Coconut Cottage with another couple. This was our first trip to the Bahamas and I would have to say that this was our most relaxing vacation. The water was such a beautiful blue clear water surrounding the white sand beaches and everyone we met on the island was so nice. The house was so new, beautiful, tastefully decorated with relaxing, neutral colors and furniture. Everything was just as described and pictured. All the amenities that were needed were right there. The owner Joanna was so easy to work with on booking the cottage. The property manager provided consierge service for our arrival with requested groceries and some Bahaman beer. He was always available and made sure that everything was going well and working well. He is also available to help book bonefishing, adventures and car rental. Make sure to enjoy the ocean sunset at the Gazebo bar (take your own beverages with you). We learned alot from the local property owners regarding some of the best places not to miss during this time - ie:water taxi to Stocking Island, drive to Exuma Point (read guest book). The ocean and private pool is a short walk down the path from the cottage. We also enjoyed just walking around the area as it was so peaceful with nice landscape and several beautiful homes in the area. We stayed for 8 nights and enjoyed the very nice bedrooms with private en-suite bathrooms. There were ceiling fans and individual air conditioners in each bedroom which made for a peaceful night of sleep. There was such a nice breeze while we were there and we enjoyed spending the mornings and evenings on the wrap around porch. Some of the most enjoyable meals were off the gas grill on the deck. There were several local cafe's and restaurants with such delicious fish. We recommend the drive down to Santana's in Little Exuma as the seafood was out of this world. Shirley's was just a short drive up the road and also one of the best places to eat fish or take out. And Catch a Fire is just a short walk from the cottage with a band on every Wednesday and Saturday. It was very convenient being halfway between the airport and Georgetown. This is such a safe place to vacation as you didn't really hear anything about crime on the island from the locals or returning vacationers. We would definitely recommend you bring bug spray for the beach and less breezy evenings. Since we enjoyed ourselves so much on this vacation, we are already thinking of who we can bring when we return."

  • Beautiful and very comfortable!

"We had a wonderful vacation in Exuma and we felt very comfortable in this condo. The views here are absolutely breathtaking! The pictures on this site do not do justice to this beautiful location. The infinity pool overlooks a sugar white beach and a true Bahamas colors sea. This condo is very spacious, comfortable and clean; we found everything that we needed: extra sheets, pillows, blankets, towels, kitchen has lots of cooking utensils, pans, etc. We were 4 adults and 4 children ages 2-9 and we appreciated having a washer and dryer. Beds were comfortable and all the furniture felt comfortable as well. Two upstairs bedrooms share a large terrace overlooking the pool, beach and beautiful sea beyond. We could not help but notice that the landscaping is well designed and well maintained. The condo is well built and it features a folding glass wall on the ground floor that can be opened entirely to (again!) the beautiful views! and a spacious patio a few steps from the hot tub and pool. There are stores within 5 minutes by car, a butcher shop and fish market, a supermarket in Georgetown, and lots of places to eat out. All the locals we met were very friendly and helpful! For 10 wonderful days we explored Great and Little Exumas by car and lots of cays and Stocking Island by boat! We found very few beaches where we were not alone. What a heavenly piece of Earth! Thank you!"
