  • Great rental- At a casual, laid-back island resort

"We enjoyed a lovely week in this spacious and super comfortable rental. It was very roomy for our family of four and super clean, with a pleasant living room, well-equipped kitchen and dining room space. The bedrooms were very nice with kind/queen beds (great linens), and newly renovated bathrooms (very modern and attractive and the showers had great water pressure!) I will say that towels provided by the resort were thin, but the owners had nice beach towels available, and other beach amenities (beach chairs, umbrellas, sand toys, etc.) Although we are not big TV people on vacation, our kids loved the fact that there were flat screen TVs with cable in every room and library of DVDs. We also enjoyed great air conditioning and ceiling fans. The kitchen was modern and well-equipped. The front porch has a nice ocean view, but direct beach access is blocked by a walkway and large planting area. It is a two minute walk to the beach, but the view is partially blocked due to vegetation. Yet you can easily hear the waves and enjoy spectacular morning sunrises! Sadly, no chaise lounges-- not enough room. The patio has a round table and 4 chairs, so nice for breakfast or dinner. The swimming pool is very nice but modest by big-resort standards. But, the spectacular, Jolly Holl beach, is 10 minute walk!---Don't miss it!!. Absolutely beautiful beach!! Forget the pool, go to the beach! The staff was super friendly and helpful! The only caveat I have is that while this is a pleasant, comfortable, laid-back resort that has everything you MIGHT want (and they will try to meet all your needs), it is NOT an ultra-LUXE resort with gift shop, coffee bar, spa, etc. (You need to go to Sandals for that…). Nonetheless, we had a wonderful week. This place fit our casual needs perfectly. The restaurant/bar (complete with swinging rope chairs by the bar) is fine for tasty, basic, well-prepared beach fare (fried conch, grilled fish, burgers, salads, fries, etc). But don't expert a gourmet experience. Perfect beach/bar fare. --Not great for discriminating foodies. (We ate there twice--fine for our family, but I would have been disappointed if I had been seeking a romantic, gourmet dinner for two...). Our stay was great overall. We appreciated the spectacular beach and ocean, the super friendly and helpful staff, and the casual, low-key, laid-back experience."

  • It really doesn't get any better!

"We had the privilege of staying at Jericho House for the second time. We are already scheming about how we can get back there ASAP! About the house: The house itself has everything. It's very clean, amply supplied with water, towels, etc. The kitchen has a blender, microwave, dishes, pots, pans, spices, - everything needed to cook your own food. The beds are comfy. There's in room air conditioning (we didn't use them much - preferring to open the window and fall asleep to the sound of gentle waves) There's cable TV and Wife for a media fix. And the two screen doors are fantastic - we had them open all day long to let the breeze blow through the place. The surroundings: The real charm of Jericho house, at least for us, is the incredible thing that happens when you walk through the front door. You are immediately confronted with a HUGE window that looks out on the deck and ocean. Its an irresistible invitation to head outside. Once out there, well, Jericho House really begins to show its beauty. The deck - HUGE. The view - incredible! The chairs - plentiful. The ocean - spectacular. Just a few steps from the deck and you are walking on the beach. When we were there we had a nice combination of days with a bit of wave action - and days where the water was completely flat. On the flat days, we snorkelled out by the rocks. Every day we ended up strolling up and down the beach. It is magical! I think that over the course of the week we were there we saw a total of 11 people walking on the beach - it was wonderfully secluded! I should add that the grounds around Jericho House are beautifully kept with coconut trees and other vegetation. We even found a few papayas - but they weren't ripe yet. About Exuma: I can't write the review without also mentioning the charm of the island itself. This island, it's people, its laid back sense of things - all fantastic. While this is a review of Jericho House we have loved: Cocoplum beach at low tide, Tropic of Cancer beach, Santannas, the Fish Fry (on Fridays for sure), Chat 'n Chill, swimming with pigs/ sharks/ sting rays, sand bars in the middle of the ocean, feeding the Iguanas, boat tours of the Cays, a Kalik or two, Staniel Cay, wave surfing on the Atlantic side of Stocking Island, Starfish bay, exploring, the kindness of the Bahamian people, the incredible beaches everywhere, the warm ocean, fish, lobster, - everything! The problem with this review is you might want to go to JH - and take a week we want!"

  • paradise!!!!!!!

"This is our 3rd visit to Exuma and by far the best ever. We wanted to rent somewhere large enough for our children and grandchildren and this was perfect. There were 9 of us, 6 adults and 3 children, ages 8, 11 and 12. There was more then enough room for all of us. There are 4 french doors all opening out onto the deck over-looking the ocean. There is a screened seating area right off of one of the bedrooms that was perfect for sitting with coffee and a book. The kitchen was soooo big, perfect for all of us to cook. We did cook all our meals, did not go out to eat at all--I don't know why anyone would want to leave Airwood to eat at a restaurant. we all love to cook and each of us brought some food with from the States. We also ate fresh lobster, crab and fish that husband and son caught. There are well-stocked grocery and liquor stores to buy what you need. The house and the Cays community are like a private paradise, all the houses are painted bright tropical colors and there are flowers and palm trees everywhere. The pictures on the web of Airwood and the surrounding Cays don't even come close to how beautiful it is here. The pool was the best for the kids and the Tiki Bar during sunset perfect for sharing a beer or glass of wine with Norman and Julie. Grandpa and the kids fished everyday from the dock. He also went bone-fishing on his own. We rented a boat from Minns water sports 2 different days--1 of the days was very windy and choppy and the other day was perfect with calm waters. On both days, we snorkeled. We did also use the kayaks to paddle out to one of the islands in front of the house and would have done it more, but there were too many other things to do. Don't know what else to say other then, I want to go back!!!!!!!!"

  • Great Vacation Value

"We have been to the Exumas a dozen times. We believe Hideaway at Palm Bay is the best value on the island. This VRBO is the best value at Palm Bay. (By best value I mean its not the Ritz but it is very, very nice for the price.) The owner is very friendly and knowlegeable about the island. Nice guy to rent from. Villa fronts to the beach and is close to pool and restaurant. The beach is okay (good for fishing and boating). There is a beautiful beach (Jolly Hall) a few hundred yards away. Several restaurants in walking distance. Rent a boat from Minns to tour the harbor. Bring snorkel gear."
