  • A perfect week

"Rosie's cottage is lovely. It is clean, freshly painted and fully equipped. There is a large and private yard that is well maintained and lush in plantings. But it is the beach just up over the dune that makes this house truly remarkable. There is no water view, but the sounds of the surf fill the air, and the stars are amazing. The cottage is a short cart ride to town, where we found terrific local restaurants on the water and luxury resorts with ambitious menus. Our strategy when not cooking at home was simple: lunch on the beach, dinner on the bay and it was such fun! Thanks Rosie, for such a wonderful week!"

  • Charming Beach Cottage for the Perfect Holiday

"The pictures hardly do justice to the lovely beachfront cottage, in a quiet, upscale residential neighborhood. We enjoyed a few weeks of pure relaxation listening to the clear blue waters and enjoying the almost deserted pink sand beaches. The cottage was very clean and well equipped. The local housekeeper was very helpful - nothing was to much trouble for her to help make our stay as pleasant as possible. the owner went out of her way to give us lots of information before we went so we were well prepared and experienced a lot of what the island had to offer. Perfect spot for a romantic getaway!"

  • Strawberry memories forever!

"Dear Andrew, Just a note to tell you how much we enjoyed our stay at Strawberry House. Your property easily surpassed our expectations, which were lofty based on the images we saw on the listing. Over the years, we have visited many of the Bahamas out islands (including Harbour Island) but Strawberry House added a new dimension to our experiences. So many thoughtful, modern amenities, so many authentic features, so many cozy little nooks to read a book. When we turned the corner on Murray street, we would look at Strawberry House with pride and think, “Wow, that’s our house!” (For a few days anyway…) Like many who visit Harbour Island, we had planned a number of dinners out. We only did it once because of the love affair we developed with the second floor veranda. The hit of the week! A perfect space to share with good friends, or family, at the end of another perfect day. I also want to mention the wonderful job Jenny did during our stay. Every day we dutifully made our beds as carefully as we could, and she came in and re-made them to perfection!! Best Regards, Steve, Linda, Peter, Lucy, Chuck and Sally."

  • Harbour Island Living at it's Best!!

"From the first phone conversation with Julia, I knew we were in for a very special treat. Her attention to detail and caring attitude to satisfy a guest's every request was very important as we needed to add a few days to the beginning of our stay, had special requests since bringing along a 2 year old, and were there for a very special family wedding. A home well worth the rental price! Everything was immaculate and the staff perfectly professional & polite. When one guest broke a finger, the pool man walked the island to get the doctor and nurse to attend to him... Talk about service! The 3 bedrooms in the main house are very nicely appointed, spacious and comfortable. The view from the master bed/bath has to be seen to be believed! The pool and patio are very well maintained and relaxing. The tucked away guest house made for a nice private suite and was nicely appointed. We had our boat there and the dockage situation was very nice and private. There are quite a few stairs up to the home, so renting a golf cart upon arrival to unload and drive gear up the road to the house is helpful. The kitchen is very nice and has everything you need to cook. There were 8 of us staying there and we had plenty of room to roam and live very comfortably with each other! We will definitely stay there again! It is a true Bahamian Luxury Estate!"

Harbour Island Travel Tips

Tropical Leisure at Harbour Island Vacation Rentals

Harbour Island is rated as one of the Bahamas best beach destinations. That says quite a lot, considering that the Bahamas is a tropical paradise. What sets Harbour Island apart is the three-mile length of the beaches and the unique pink hue of the beach sand. This gives the island an almost ethereal appearance from a distance. The barrier reefs surrounding the island provide safe waters for swimming, snorkeling and diving. With its warm tropical weather, Harbour Island is a year-round destination.

Getting to Harbour Island Resorts

The international airport on Harbour Island is known as North Eleuthera Airport. Commercial flights from Ft. Lauderdale, Miami and Nassau land here. If you are flying in from other parts of North America or Europe, a number of international carriers fly into either Nassau or Miami. From there, you can get a flight connection on to Eleuthera. From the airport, it’s a short 10-minute taxi ride to the boat dock and a further 10-minute boat ride across to Harbour Island.

Once in the Bahamas, you can also get to Harbour Island by using the Bahamas Fast Ferries. From Nassau, you will take the ferry to Spanish Wells, Eleuthera and then on to Harbour island. This is a quick and convenient way to get between the islands. If you are on your own timetable, you can make use of both land and water taxis to get to Harbour Island. Once on the island, the most popular way to get around is to hire a golf buggy.

Private charter flights are available from several airlines based in the Bahamas. When making inquiries, ensure that the company you use is a certified and licensed charter airline. This is a great way to do some aerial sightseeing of the Bahamas.

Harbour Island Travel Attractions

The beaches of Harbour Island are undoubtedly one of its greatest attractions. The crisp pink coral sands and calm turquoise waters certainly paint a picture of paradise. Sun lovers can laze on the beach and check out the scene. In the late afternoon, take yourself along to one of the beachfront restaurants and enjoy a cocktail or two as you watch the sun dip below the horizon. The dining on Harbour Island is legendary. You can enjoy fine dining at upscale restaurants or enjoy a more casual dining experience of local fare at a neighborhood restaurant.

Boats can be chartered and you can enjoy a day out cruising on the calm turquoise waters. Dive operators offer scuba diving on both the inner and outer reefs. One dive site in particular is ranked at one of the world’s best. The dive is called Current Cut Dive and only recommended for advanced divers who are experienced in drift diving. The current flows extremely fast along rock walls that run between Harbour Island and Current Island and it is a thrilling experience. Divers can drift as far as two to three miles in as little as 10 minutes. Snorkeling excursions can easily be arranged on the colorful tropical reefs. Anglers can try their luck surf fishing from the rocks or chartering a boat for a deep sea fishing excursion.

On land, you can browse the many street side stalls in Dunmore for souvenirs and crafts. In Dunmore Town, there are several historical sites that are interesting to visit. The town was well known for its sugar refineries, rum distilleries and ship building in the 1800s. The historic Hill Steps were built from stone hewn by local inhabitants. The Titus Hole is a cave overlooking the bay that is believed to have served as a jail at one point in time.

Stylish Vacation Rentals on Harbour Island

Aside from its natural beauty, the island has a distinctly glamorous feel about it. Harbour Island is a popular haven for celebrities. Most rental homes have superb views over the bay. The homes are stylishly decorated and furnished with most modern conveniences.
