  • Paradise and ideal for large parties

"Finding a villa for 12 is not easy and I was so glad to find this little bit of paradise on Wemmys beach on Long Island. It is so spacious and cool in the breeze and decorated in that laid back tropical pastel style with decking and walk ways everywhere. Set in a tropical garden - we collected fresh coconut every day to make 'skyjuice' - Gin and coconut water which makes a nice change from Rum Punch. The beach is right there and greast for all water sports - we swam, snorkelled, kayaked , fished - bonefish first day - low tide is better. Kayaking out to the isalnds to the right will let you see lots of fish under the overhangs. Wlaking a mile to the left gets you to a mangrove creek which you can kayak into at high tide - great adventure. Being fisherman this was a paradise for us and we fished all over long island both from the shore and offshore - try Jimmy Fox in Salt Pond if you want some great offshore action. We caught big wahoo, Mahi Mahi, Bonita, Kingfish, Cero mackeral, Albacore, Big eyed Jacks, Blure Runners, Mutton Snappers - including a really big one trolling! and so many Barracuda. Saw 8 permit one day - the holy grail of fly fisherman - but they would not take - probably my fault but you do not know with permit. Also saw plenty of tarpon in Doctors Creek but again difficult to catch so near the road.We even saw a manatee in stella maris harbour. We had so much fish to eat and the kitchen is so well equipped to deal with it. We could entertain friends and easily seat 20 people. If you need a bit of civilisation Stella maris resort and Santa maria resort has quality food and cocktails. People are so friendly and the villa manager Starlene and Daniel could not have been more helpful. Carla the contact in the States and is such a good communicator - responding very quickly to any emailed questions. I think the property may be up for sale in the future so get there while the goings good or better still buy it - I wish I could. I could go on for pages about all the other things to see in Long Island but the best thing is to see it for yourself - find a road explore it - may lead to a beach that has not seen a footprint for weeks or a blue hole for snorkelling. I wish I was back there now."
