  • A Garden Sanctuary

"Barabados is blessed with some of the most magnificent beaches in the Caribbean and some of the nicest people in the world. Just a short walk from a lovely beach is Glenville Gardens, overseen by perhaps the nicest people in Barbados, Barbara and Sugrim. Glenville Gardens, a few cottages situated in a beautiful garden, is a soothing environment where one can relax and enjoy the near idyllic Caribbean weather. The garden is a soothing sanctuary for plants, animals, and people. Barbara is an amazing gardener, and the grounds are filled with trees and plants that create a calming oasis and supply the bananas for her delicious homemade banana bread and the fruits (we were there when passion fruit was ripe) she presents as gifts for her guests. A few chickens and turtles are among the unobtrusive but welcome denizens of Glenville Gardens as are many birds, including hummingbirds and bananaquits, and a small group of green monkeys that often pass through the garden though they do not reside there. The cottages (we stayed in Heather), are lovely, well-equipped, and each has an outdoor sitting area. They are also immaculately kept and cleaned. There are communal spaces and a barbecue where guests can socialize if they wish. Privacy or community – it’s up to each guest to decide. This has to be one of the least stressful environments we’ve ever been lucky enough to experience. Glenville Gardens is close to beaches, restaurants, bars, shopping, and the excellent public transportation system that can deliver you from one end of the island to the other. Barbara and Sugrim are perfect hosts. They are hospitable, helpful, friendly, informative, efficient, and just plain wonderful people. Upon arrival, they immediately made us feel welcome and part of the family. When w had to head home, we did not want to leave, not just because we fell in love with Barbados, but because we were enamored with Glenville Gardens, Barbara, and Sugrim."

Christ Church Travel Tips

Things to do From Your Christ Church Vacation Rentals Base

Barbados’s unique claim to fame is that it is the most easterly island in the Caribbean. Although it is just 21 miles long and 14 miles wide, it packs a great deal into its limited space. The island is fairly flat and has an excellent local transport system which makes it very easy to get around and explore this true Caribbean gem. Further inland, the island has lush vegetation which is home to some unique and extraordinary wildlife.

Christ Church is in the southernmost parish and known for its superb beaches. It is one of the quieter areas of Barbados but the livelier towns of Oistins and Bridgetown are close. Christ Church has plenty of local shops where you can buy fruit and provisions as well as fresh fish. With a vacation villa, you can quickly adapt to the laid-back Caribbean lifestyle.

Barbados offers some unique opportunities for things to do around the island. You can swim in the clear waters with the giant sea turtles or take a trip to Harrison’s Cave. The quieter east coast of Barbados has some magnificent waves rolling ashore near Bathsheba.

Snorkelers and divers will enjoy a catamaran cruise to some of the best spots, where guests can snorkel and dive in the crystal clear warm sea. During the day, most visitors cannot resist heading down to the beautiful beaches.

An island jeep safari is a great way to see the island’s charms further inland. There are also plenty of beautiful hiking trails to see the wildlife, birds and historic monuments which recall Barbados’s interesting past.

Weddings and Honeymoons in Barbados

The Caribbean island of Barbados is always a popular destination for weddings, honeymoons and romantic vacations. It is very easy to arrange a beach wedding through a professional wedding planner. It also keeps costs down as guests generally pay for their own flights and accommodations. The honeymoon begins the minute you say “I do.” With guaranteed sunshine, Barbados is the perfect place to begin your life together.

How to get to the Beautiful Christ Church Beach Rentals

It is very easy to travel to Barbados and to get around this fabulous island. There are international flights daily from North America and Europe. It is three hours 40 minutes flying time from Miami, four hours 20 minutes from New York, five hours from Montreal, eight hours from London and nine hours from Brussels or Frankfurt.

The major airlines serving Barbados are Air Jamaica, American Airlines, US Airways, Air Canada, Caribbean Airlines and British Airways.

Places to Visit From the Well-Located Christ Church Villas

From your Christ Church vacation rentals, St. Lawrence Gap is just a five-minute drive away. “The Gap,” as it is known, is one of the most popular spots for tourists to visit on Barbados. It has excellent restaurants, offering a choice of cuisine and range of prices. After dark, the area is alive with vibrant nightlife in the local bars.

Oistins is just a short trip from Christ Church and a pretty fishing village. On Friday nights, everyone lets their hair down to the sound of Caribbean music. Colorful shacks serve authentic Caribbean food such as fish fry at low prices and the local rum flows freely. For a great beach party atmosphere, Oistins is hard to beat.

What to Expect Weather-Wise in Barbados

The beauty of the Caribbean is that it is beautifully warm and sunny all year-round. Temperatures are always reliably high, between 75 and 85 F (24 to 29 C). If that sounds a little too hot, the prevailing northeast trade winds generally keep the island pleasantly fresh. Barbados does get some rain, generally between July and December, but it falls as short sharp showers which quickly disappear. The island enjoys eight hours of sunshine per day on average, and 10 hours of sunshine per day between January and March, at a time when the northerly United States are shivering!
