"Glenville Gardens is a wonderful place to stay for the sophisticated traveler. The hosts are very friendly and knowledgeable about the area, and their recommendations were very appreciated by us. The service is very friendly and professional. Barbara responds quickly to email questions and kept in touch about our upcoming visit. The cottage that we rented was fully equipped and private, we felt as though we were staying a garden home, not a cottage rental. The decor is tropical, complete with two decks which we used every night for our meals. The location is very quiet and restful, and the cottage was extremely clean. At night you do not hear any street noise at all, and each morning we were awoken by the sounds of birds and monkeys in the trees. The location is within walking distance to the beach, shops, banks, and restaurants. The best part was that we were able to come and go on this beautiful property, which felt like home after merely one week."Guest: Clare & Ron Date of Stay: January 2014 Review Submitted: January 19, 2014View listing
"We really enjoyed staying in this holiday villa. It was quiet, we were a quick walk to a choice of terrific beaches and we rented a car to travel around the island. It was great to have Juliet come in and do a tidy and clean around throughout the stay as well, so thank you to her! We ate take aways, cooked and walked the short distance to some very good local restaurants. The villa is really nicely styled, the kitchen is well stocked with equipment and the outside area is charming. I would very much recommend a stay here. I've ticked the excellent value box for this property as compared with all the other properties I looked at it is well priced."Guest: Louise T. "This was an excellent place to stay for the start of our holiday. The house is really nice, with all the amenities you'd need for a beach holiday and is only a short walk to Miami / Enterprise beach. The host was responsive and met us at the property and showed us everything we needed to know. It is only a short walk from the house into Oistens and the fish market. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a great place to get away and enjoy the sunshine."Guest: Stu Date of Stay: January 2014 Review Submitted: May 19, 2014View listing
"Wow! Words can't truly express how much we enjoyed staying at Farther Away! It's obvious Dave and Christine are meticulous owners as the condo is beautifully kept and maintained. We stayed in three different places on our three weeks in Barbados and this one takes the prize as our favorite. Overlooking Skeetes Bay and the East Point Lighthouse you take in beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean and it's strength. Watching the moon rise over the Atlantic was amazing at night. The condo is well appointed and truly away from it all. Don't stay here if you want the hustle and bustle of tourist attractions and such; all of these are within driving distance. Stay here to soak up the east coast life style! Expect gorgeous views, a well maintained property, a beautiful deck overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, visits from Green Monkeys and some of the nicest owners we've ever met. Thank you so much David and Christine (especially for the homemade rum punch greeting)! We will return here when we come back to Barbados!"Guest: Phil M. The parish of St. James has a rich history, dating back to 1625 when the first British settlers arrived. The city of Holetown was originally known as Jamestown in honor of the King. It is the oldest town on Barbados. The original inhabitants consisted of 50 settlers and 10 slaves. With an abundance of restaurants and great shopping, the area around St. James villas is the heart of the tourist area. Here, visitors can explore one of the few remaining working sugar factories at Portvale Sugar Factory and the historic St. James Parish Church. This church is on one of the oldest consecrated pieces of land on the island and is known as "God’s acre." A church has stood on this site since 1628, and visitors may enjoy a wander through the graveyard to see the resting place of many of the original British settlers. Visitors to St. James rentals will find a beautiful area, with a very social atmosphere.
Certainly, the main attraction of St. James is the beaches. The miles of bright white sand and crystal clear waters provide visitors with the island’s best beaches within easy reach of St. James vacation rentals. Those who enjoy swimming and snorkeling will want to try both Mullins and Heywood beaches. Here, visitors will find a wealth of marine life with tropical fish such as barracuda and giant sea turtles.
