  • 60th Birthday celebrations

"The house, gardens, pool and location are fantastic. Although situated in local residential area the locals were very friendly and we felt safe at all times. The house is very close to Gibbs beach which in our opinion, having spent many years visiting the Island, is one of the best in Barbados. Jefferson is the owner of Carlton bar and grill situated at the end of the road and who is extremely friendly and assisted in sourcing the best value hire car, taxi and island boat trips. The villa owner, Jennifer, is also very friendly and helpful. All in all a fantastic villa and holiday"

  • Fabulous

"This place is excellent. My wife and I have stayed at a number of places all over Barbados - Christchurch, St. James, St. Lucy. But we really felt at home here. We get hot and always need fans. Here was so cool and breezy at all times. It was amazing. There is AC in the bedroom but we did not need it. One warning, secure the doors because the wind will slam them quickly for you. <smile> The bed is huge and comfortable. It has some kind of special mattress. The decor is clean, fresh and islandy (I made this word up myself). Everything was flawless. If you want to relax and read a book, walk down to the extremely close beach, take a brief bus to town, it is all possible and easy from here. The owners are warm and friendly and at the same time respect your privacy. We would stay here again in a second. All the little things were thought of - towels, soap, electric kettle, microwave, books to read, fans. We saw no bugs or insects. It was immaculately clean. Highly recommended! It is BETTER than the pictures."

  • A wonderful holiday at 'Hideaway'

"My wife and I have just returned from a wonderful weeks holiday staying at Hideway Villa in Sunset Crest, Holetown. Firstly the booking process and the ongoing communication from the agent Jack was very professional, friendly and helpful from our first enquiry to the moment we arrived. When we arrived the owners were there to greet us and were very welcoming, giving us a detailed tour of the villa. The villa itself is very well equipped with everything you need for a perfect holiday. The photographs on the site completely show the villa and are a true representation. The bedrooms are fully air-conditioned, the kitchen is very well equipped, there is wifi and the best bit of the villa is the wonderful patio and gardens - perfect for relaxing and enjoying an ice cold rum punch in the evenings. The location of the villa is fantastic as it is only 5 minutes from the beach, the supermarket and local restaurants - you really do not need a car unless you fancy exploring further afield. We look forward to our next stay at Hideaway."

  • Great stay at a great rental!

"Our week at Costa Vista was spectacular! You're within a 5-10 minute walk of a supermarket, restaurant, bus stop and the beach. Fitts Village is between Bridgetown and Holetown, the two main cities in Barbados, and you aren't far from either. You can either take the bus, or rent a car (which is what we did). The listing is very accurate. The apartment was clean, and the pictures are current. It's just as nice as it looks, no mirages or outdated pictures here. The owner and property manager gave us great service and responded promptly to our questions. A couple of our favourite aspects were: You have a full kitchen: oven, fridge, dishwasher, toaster, microwave etc, which is great to cook some meals yourself. The living room had a TV. The listing says very basic cable I believe, but there was a good number of channels. The internet worked very well throughout the apartment. There is a rooftop deck with a barbecue that I really enjoyed. You have a great view of the water, and we watched the sunset up there every evening. It's a nice place to lay in the sun throughout the day as well. The only thing that I would caution potential renters about is that this is located on a steep hill. We didn't have a problem getting up and down, but it wouldn't be very friendly to elderly guests or wheelchairs. For the general population, it's fine. I would not hesitate to recommend this rental to others, and I would definitely stay here again if I return to Barbados."

St. James Travel Tips

Visit the Platinum Coast at St. James Vacation Rentals in Barbados

The beautiful coral island of Barbados is a vacationer’s paradise. Travelers here say it is "easy to get to and difficult to leave behind." Visitors to St. James beach rentals will find out why. Travelers will find Barbados has its own international airport as well as a variety of options to get to St. James itself. Vacationers can choose to hire a car, use the excellent bus service or treat themselves to a limousine service. The area of St. James is situated on the western part of the island and referred to as the "platinum coast" due to its many up-scale properties. The year-round perfect weather makes for a great summer-like vacation, at whatever time of year you choose to travel.

Swim with the Giant Sea Turtles Near Your St. James Beach Rentals

The parish of St. James has a rich history, dating back to 1625 when the first British settlers arrived. The city of Holetown was originally known as Jamestown in honor of the King. It is the oldest town on Barbados. The original inhabitants consisted of 50 settlers and 10 slaves. With an abundance of restaurants and great shopping, the area around St. James villas is the heart of the tourist area. Here, visitors can explore one of the few remaining working sugar factories at Portvale Sugar Factory and the historic St. James Parish Church. This church is on one of the oldest consecrated pieces of land on the island and is known as "God’s acre." A church has stood on this site since 1628, and visitors may enjoy a wander through the graveyard to see the resting place of many of the original British settlers. Visitors to St. James rentals will find a beautiful area, with a very social atmosphere.

Certainly, the main attraction of St. James is the beaches. The miles of bright white sand and crystal clear waters provide visitors with the island’s best beaches within easy reach of St. James vacation rentals. Those who enjoy swimming and snorkeling will want to try both Mullins and Heywood beaches. Here, visitors will find a wealth of marine life with tropical fish such as barracuda and giant sea turtles. Both beaches have a variety of cafes and snack shacks along the beach.

Tax-Free Shopping and Unique Dining Experiences Await Near St. James Villas

It is worth considering that the shopping here is tax-free for vacationers. When shopping, ensure you have your passport and travel documents with you! The best bargains are for goods such as liquor, jewelry, art, perfume and cosmetics. There is also a wonderful variety of local goods such as colorful ceramics, gorgeous glassware and handicrafts. Many stores take U.S. dollars and major credit cards, making for a convenient shopping experience.

Barbados offers many unique dining experiences, being inspired by both British and Caribbean influences. As an island, seafood is a base for many of the local dishes and many menus will have locally caught snapper, shrimp and kingfish on offer. The local traditional dish is flying fish served with a corn meal and okra dish called Cou-Cou, topped with Creole sauce. There will also be a wide variety of shellfish on offer. The more adventurous should try the local "sea eggs" which are deviled sea urchin roe, grilled pigtails or fried conch.
