There is only one airport on Barbados, the Sir Grantley Adams International Airport, which is located in Bridgetown. The airport hosts regularly scheduled flights from most North American airlines as well as several European Airlines. Regional airlines operate between Barbados and other neighboring Caribbean destinations. If you are traveling from a destination that does not have a direct flight to Barbados, you may consider routing via London if traveling from Europe. Alternatively, the best connection from the U.S. is Miami Airport in Florida.

Barbados is known as a tax haven in the Caribbean. This makes it a favorite shopping destination. In some cases, you could find items at 50 percent less than what you would pay in North America or Europe. The tax-free shops can be found in St. Peter, Christ Church, and Bridgetown. Many will accept U.S. currency in addition to local currency as well as most major credit cards. Some items that you can look out for are high quality jewelry, ceramics, perfume and art. Clothing tends to be a little more expensive in the major towns but affordable handcrafts and souvenirs can be found in the beach front stalls and markets.

Golfing enthusiasts can test their skills on the par 72 championship golf courses on Barbados. The scenery is magnificent but don’t get too distracted—the greens are challenging. The most well known golf course is the Barbados Golf Club in Christ Church.

The diving on Barbados is a treat. Wrecks, beautiful coral reefs, crystal clear waters, warm tropical water temperatures and an abundance of marine life make diving in Barbados a memorable experience. Local dive shops have regular charters out to the reefs and dive sites. For those that prefer to stay on top of the water, snorkeling is the next best way to experience the underwater world. Cruises and snorkeling excursions can be arranged with any one of the local tour operators.

The beaches on Barbados are legendary. Soft white sands seem to go on for miles and the beaches are ideal for swimming and snorkeling. Near St. Peter, the two best beaches are on the west coast, namely Heywoods and Mullins Beach. Here you can enjoy the days soaking up the sun and occasionally cool off with a swim or snorkel out to the reefs.
