"Take to heart when the owners say, " a scenic out-of-the-way area in eastern Barbados. " We greatly enjoyed the quiet and lack of crowds. However, this means driving to everything. There are no restaurants, bars, shops within walking distance. If you are looking for a place to relax, with lots of quiet, and the ability to get to empty beaches this is perfect. If you want the flexibility to walk to bars, restaurants or be in the thick of things, it won't work. We used Hummingbird House as a base for day trips and loved coming home to quiet evenings spent on the porch with a nice breeze.
All of the amenities in the house are great. TV with cable, laptop with free wi fi, and the AC in the bed rooms worked great. The kitchen was well equipped with a fridge, microwave, coffee maker, washer/dryer. They could maybe use a few more plates and cutlery. The pool isn't huge, but is nice and deep and good for relaxing and playing with the kids.
Barbados in general exceeded my expectations, and so did Hummingbird House. For Barbados the weather was much better than I anticipated, nice cool breezes and no oppressive humidity. Diving was good with a ton of sea life, and snorkeling with the turtles was a major trip highlight. Negatives would be more litter than I would like to see around beaches. Also, traffic in the main areas was much worse than I expected. Around Hastings, St Lawrence Gap...."
