"This vacation rental was lovely and Jackie and Eloy were very helpful and friendly. We felt very safe and the apartment was very clean, comfortable beds, nicely decorated and kitchen was well stocked. Eloy took us out snorkelling and fishing a couple times and cooked a fantastic lunch. The setting for lunch was very rustic, which added to this experience for us. Eloy was a fantastic fishing guide also. We would definitely stay at this place again if we came back to Belize. The local people are friendly helpful happy and we really enjoyed the people and their food is fantastic."Guest: PHP Date of Stay: February 2014 Review Submitted: February 24, 2014View listing
"We just returned from our wonderful trip to Belize and I'm already missing it. This house was perfect for us and our two teenaged kids, a boy and a girl. Each bedroom has 2 Twin beds that can be separated or kept together as a King. Somehow the beds don't separate if you put them together, so there's no falling through the crack and the beds were very comfy. The views of the gorgeous turquoise colored water were amazing and we loved having our own dock to hang out on. This also made it easy for boats to come pick us up for excursions we booked. We did not rent a golf cart and I really don't think one is necessary. We would take the Coastal Express water taxi when we needed to get into town (only twice). The Mata Grande grocery store is an easy walk and although it's small they have all the basics you need. Next door to the grocery store is Aurora's restaurant. It has great breakfasts and lunch at a very reasonable price. The kitchen has pretty much everything you need, but I do wish it had a basic spice cupboard. Other than that, no complaints. The best part of our stay at Castillo de Arena was having William, the caretaker around. He was at the dock to greet us when our water taxi arrived and was so helpful in giving advice about the island. He showed our teenaged son how to spear fish which was the highlight of his trip and he also showed us the best spots to kayak out to and snorkel. On our second to last night William gave us an awesome coconut demonstration for his coconut rice recipe. He also barbecued some fish and lobster that the guys caught during their spear fishing adventures. We really enjoyed our stay at this house and look forward to returning again, hopefully next year!"Guest: Nancy Date of Stay: July 2014 Review Submitted: August 12, 2014View listing
"Our family of 4 just returned from a one week stay in this unit. We absolutely loved everything about it and thought that our choice of this unit and resort really made the trip the very best. The unit itself is exactly as shown in the photos, although I think it is more spacious than the photos show. Both bedrooms are nice sizes and there is plenty of storage in the bedrooms and bathrooms as well as high quality linens. The kitchen is huge and was by far the best equipped kitchen we have ever had in a vrbo. There were tons of beach towels which we really appreciated. Only slight drawback for us would be that the beds were not especially comfortable - but we think that's typical for Central America and also a matter of preference. It would not keep us from staying again. It is a first floor unit and we loved the convenience (most buildings don't have elevators). It is well located in the resort - convenient to the pools, dock, restaurant, the front office, and the golf cart parking. Daily housekeeping was very nice. The resort itself is unbelievably amazing and after exploring the island over the week stay, we agree that it is the best on the island. Further north the roads get bad and it would have to make getting places more difficult. In town is too congested and not relaxing. Grand Caribe is just far enough away to offer a relaxing atmosphere but convenient enough that you can get to town easily. There is even a convenience/grocery store before the bridge that we used several times. The resort pools are beautiful, the beach/ocean views outstanding. The resort staff impressed us with their friendliness and service. Everything was efficient from check-in to check-out. The resort connected us with great tour providers also. We truly had everything we could have asked for. Some things that may be helpful to future guests: The condo provides toilet paper and toiletry items such as soap, shampoo/conditioner, lotion. Trash bags, dishwasher soap were also provided. These aren't always offered in vrbo rentals. There is a safe in the master bedroom BUT it is very small. It will hold passports, wallets, and smart phones, but it will not fit an ipad or certainly not a laptop. The Wi-Fi worked well and my teens were thankful! The owner was extremely helpful, responsive, etc. We would absolutely stay in this unit again - which we hope to do often now that we've discovered such a great place!"Guest: 4jack Date of Stay: July 2014 Review Submitted: July 28, 2014View listing
"Took my 2, 20 something sons, their girl friends and my girl friend to this great spot and had a wonderful time over the 8 days we were there. The apartment was lovely, the view incredible, and there were numerous tours and options to fill the time when we weren't just relaxing. We also thought the restaurant/food options in town were better than expected. Would recommend Sunset Beach and Ambergris Caye as a great getaway for anyone and there were no negatives."Guest: Tom Date of Stay: August 2014 Review Submitted: August 21, 2014View listing
