  • Better than the pictures!

"We have used VRBO many times. Sometimes you don't quite get what you were expecting. However, this place was the real deal. Awesome views, crystal clear pool, cold A/C, clean comfy house and an amazing palapa on the lagoon. We had coffee on the balcony every morning and fished from the dock every night. Dolphins and manatees cruised by but we never saw the famous Croc. Dan was helpful and easy to work with. We couldn't have asked for a better spot to spend a week. There are many beaches, bars and restaurants within a 15 minute walk. Maya Bistro and Mango's were by far the best. We decided to rent a golf cart and it came in quite handy. We cruised the entire peninsula in slow motion and it was so relaxing. The roads felt very safe. We were able to enjoy some of the Placencia night life without always having to call a taxi. The only problem we had was booking tours. The giude that was recommended (Alrin) was a complete joke. We'd book a fishing trip with him, he'd call at the lat minute to cancel and leave us hanging with no other options. We would run across the street to The Green Parrot and Leo would squeeze us on a trip or tour last minute. I'd recommend leaving Alrin out of the picture and just let Leo set things up for you. Alrin acually had the nerve to call me for the third day in a row, yell at me and cancel again. I know we had a few windy days that weren't good for reef fishing, but he could have taken us fishing on the lagoon or to the Monkey River. We ended up having his brother Efar take us on the Monkey River tour and I think that really pissed him off. But hey, I'm not going to force you to take my money... there are plenty of other awesome guides that work hard to please their clients. Even though we never got to fish on the reef, the trip was a great success. The snorkeling out there was phenomenal. Go slow and enjoy!"

  • Perfect for a true Belizean experience

"This was our 5th trip to Belize. It was our first time with our children, ages 11 & 13. The location of this home was convenient to town, water taxis and a great beach. I counted the steps from the gate to the sea.....35:). We had groceries delivered which was well worth it. Phil arranged our golf cart, fishing trip, and a cook to prepare us a authentic dinner. He was very, very helpful. The sunrise and sunset are breathtaking from the porch. My only suggestion is to pack thick beach towels if you prefer them. Clean towels were delivered daily, but the beach towels are small by American standards. Overall, this was a fabulous experience. Thank you Phil!"

  • Tropical Breezes, Rum Punch and has anyone seen my dog?

"We had such a wonderful time at your place on Caye Caulker. Your home is truly spectacular and Caye Caulker itself is one of the most quaint and charming places we have ever visited. We truly enjoyed every minute of our trip. You really have a great spot there and I don’t know how you ever leave! It was one of the most relaxing and enjoyable trips that we have ever taken and we would do it again in a heartbeat. Our original plan was to celebrate our anniversary with a trip to Greece, but somewhere along the planning stages I stumbled upon your beautiful home and knew right away that was where we had to go. We don’t regret that decision one bit. Every day was an adventure, from our encounters with crockie in the mornings to the crazy crabs running sideways across the airstrip in the evenings to the you-never-know-what-you-might-score at the veggie stands in town to dodging the water filled craters on the always interesting bike rides into town. Our encounters with the locals were always enjoyable and interesting and I don’t think we have ever traveled anywhere where we felt more welcome. You have a true gem in Michael. We wish we spent more time getting to know him. The evenings that we enjoyed dinner in town were always interesting and each and every one was a very different experience. While we didn’t have one disappointing meal the entire 2 weeks, I think our favorite meals were at Fantasy Dining, Rose’s and Habanero’s, but our favorite dining experience was definitely Wish Willy’s. We did venture off the island too. One of the highlights was definitely a trip to the mainland to visit the Mayan ruins at Xunantunich & Cahal Pech as well as an incredible day of snorkeling w/Romeo at Carlos Tours. All in all it was an amazing adventure and one we will certainly never forget. Go slow...."

  • Amazing Beachfront Cabanas

"We stayed at The Maine Stay for almost 2 weeks and had the best vacation ever! Every morning we watched the sun rise over the Caribbean Sea and set over the lagoon across the way. The owner, Karen and her staff provided everything you could possibly need. They even got us some fresh coconuts one evening. We felt safe and knew that there was always security on site. Every morning the beach is raked smooth and beautiful. We spent many enjoyable hours watching the water and the birds from our beachfront lounge chairs. Karen met us just as we arrived and filled us in on great restaurants and places to see. The cabanas were better stocked than my own kitcen. The Maine Stay has lots of canoes, kayaks, bikes, and fun for free. The people of Belize were extreamly friendly and kind. The food is so delicious and cheap. We rented a car from Belize City, spent time in San Ignosio and drove down to Placencia. The beach was our favorite stay and The Maine Stay was fabulous! I'm ready to go back!"
