"The house is in fair repair. The ceiling fan in our room did not function. The bed was really hard and creaked loudly with every movement. It was bad enough that I began sleeping on the single bed in the room so my wife and I could sleep. The grounds were well kept but the beach was a mess with really smelly rotting seaweed for the entire length of the property. This would be a lot to clean up but well worth it by the looks of the proprties that have done so. Thank goodness there is a dock and a boat to get out to the good water by the reef. One stand up paddle board no longer had a fin on the bottom and 1 of the tandem kayaks did not have seat cushions or a back rest. The fuel in Belize is expensive so plan to add an extra $500 or so for boat fuel for the week if you are planning to do a lot of trips to snorkel or go to town. The staff are pleasant and professional. Sarge was an awesome guide for the snorkel trips and is HIGHLY recommended. The snorkeling was amazing. Mexico Rocks and Shark/Ray alley should be on your list. Zuly is an amazing cook. I would recommend that you get a grocery list from Zuly on what she needs. It will be worth it!! If fishing is your thing I would suggest getting a guide outfit in town as the boat was too small for our party to get to the better areas. Overall we had a great trip and hope to return to Belize for more great snorkeling."

"Jason and Mareesha were excellent hosts And we particularly enjoyed dinners at the chefs table. We would stay at Pirates Villa again and highly recommend it. If you expect five-star resort treatment don't bother this place is great for the adventuresome!"

  • Simply Wonderful!

"We stayed at the Dolce Cabana for a week in February during the art festival in Placencia. What a wonderful place it was for us! The room was very clean and had all of the ammenities we could ask for. Nichole was wonderful as well! She helped us organize some of our excursions, and went out of her way to ensure we were enjoying ourselves. Our room opened right up to the waterway and was very quiet (Except for the Whippoorwill birds living in the area that were wonderful early morning alarm clocks). But who wants to sleep in anyway? The walk from our room to the center of town took no more than ten minuted, and the grocery store was within five. I highly recommend Dolce Cabana if you want a cozy, convenient room for a great price. We will certainy stay there the next time we visit."

  • The best of Belize

"The Macaw Bank Jungle lodge is a once in a lifetime experience. If you are seeking a 5 star fancy resort, this is not the place for you. But if you are after extremely comfortable accommodations in a beautiful setting with gracious hosts, you can do not better than Macaw Bank. The owners Ron and Al are exceptional people with a unique blend of appreciation for the spectacular Belizean Cayo environment, culinary skills and exceptional friendliness. Following our 6 day stay at MBJL we spent a week on Glover's Reef, which was fantastic, but was not as memorable as our stay at MBJL. From the time of our arrival with rental car problems, Ron and Al were the most helpful and friendly people. While they do not run tours directly from their lodge, they will set up everything for you with other operators. During our stay we visited Caracol, ATM and El Pillar. Must confess while the sites were superb each day we were looking forward to our return to MBJL. The grounds have been exceptionally cultivated and are a beautiful example of lodge type landscaping blending with the natural environment. Kudos to Al on this one. The meals are fantastic. Ron and Al will cater to their guests dietary preferences and personally prepare awesome meals. They are probably a little over priced, but the convenience of dining right at the lodge plus conversing with Ron and Al and the other guests makes it more than worth it. We met some great folks while staying there. This type of place attracts quality people. Not much else to say, we hope to return soon."
