  • Better than the pictures!

"We have used VRBO many times. Sometimes you don't quite get what you were expecting. However, this place was the real deal. Awesome views, crystal clear pool, cold A/C, clean comfy house and an amazing palapa on the lagoon. We had coffee on the balcony every morning and fished from the dock every night. Dolphins and manatees cruised by but we never saw the famous Croc. Dan was helpful and easy to work with. We couldn't have asked for a better spot to spend a week. There are many beaches, bars and restaurants within a 15 minute walk. Maya Bistro and Mango's were by far the best. We decided to rent a golf cart and it came in quite handy. We cruised the entire peninsula in slow motion and it was so relaxing. The roads felt very safe. We were able to enjoy some of the Placencia night life without always having to call a taxi. The only problem we had was booking tours. The giude that was recommended (Alrin) was a complete joke. We'd book a fishing trip with him, he'd call at the lat minute to cancel and leave us hanging with no other options. We would run across the street to The Green Parrot and Leo would squeeze us on a trip or tour last minute. I'd recommend leaving Alrin out of the picture and just let Leo set things up for you. Alrin acually had the nerve to call me for the third day in a row, yell at me and cancel again. I know we had a few windy days that weren't good for reef fishing, but he could have taken us fishing on the lagoon or to the Monkey River. We ended up having his brother Efar take us on the Monkey River tour and I think that really pissed him off. But hey, I'm not going to force you to take my money... there are plenty of other awesome guides that work hard to please their clients. Even though we never got to fish on the reef, the trip was a great success. The snorkeling out there was phenomenal. Go slow and enjoy!"

  • Great Stay!

"Best laid out and nicest beach house we have stayed including those in the US. It is well thought out and very private. We totaled 6 people, my wife and I, 3 kids ages 13-17, and my 81 year old father. The kids had one room, my father the other, and we had the upstairs room. Nice that everyone had their own space. We spent 10 days here and have a great time. I think we saw a total of about 5 different people on the beach in our entire time. Its a great walking beach and the sea kayaks were fun, but its not the best for swimming. The wooden chairs out by the water were a morning ritual to watch the sun rise. Beds are comfortable (the fold out twin not so much), towels are plentiful, everything seems well maintained. Having the local phone with Aaron's and Stewart's numbers pre-programmed was reassuring, though we never really needed it. If we spent much time in the house we always would see one or the other walking down the street out front. Groceries are easy to get around the area (VISA accepted at all the stores), we generally ate breakfast and a snack at the house and went out for dinner or lunch. Plenty of great restaurants around the area (you will need a car). I recommend Bonefish Grill and Mangos in Maya Beach (about 3-4 minutes away) and Wendys, Omar's, and De Tatch down in Placencia (about 15-20 minutes). Never had a bad meal, ate lots of fish, rice, and beans. For those with picky American kids, everywhere has a pretty Americanized menu available (Burgers, pasta, pizza, chicken). As far as activities, we did SCUBA though Splash Center for 2 days. Great diving! We had 2 more days scheduled but weather got in the way. Off shore seas were too rough, though the weather on land was great. Splash has great equipment (ScubaPro) and a first rate staff. We did a half day of Deep Sea fishing which was a blast (Captain Dave out of Roberts Grove marina) and that gave us some great fish for dinner. We did the chocolate and Nim Li Punit ruins tour through CayeQuest tours and the Monkey river tour with them as well. Mark and Lyra of CayeQuest are great. Lyra, who just completed her PhD at Indiana U. in Anthropology is a treasure trove of facts. Mark is a local who is passionate about the surrounding environment. I HIGHLY recommend this 2 person company and these tours. We drove ourselves up to Maya Center and grabbed a guide when we arrived and spent a very hot half day hiking the trails there. Recommend the Zoo if driving from Int airport."

  • Very relaxing week

"My wife and I were looking for a quite, relaxing week and we couldn't have picked a better destination. The peacefulness of Maya Beach and the comfort of the house could not be beat. Ivy, at the local market, was very friendly, as were all the people we met. Fred and Jacque, the property manager who live next door, were very helpful and made our stay very enjoyable. We highly recommend Reva's Pearl for anyone who wants to unwind."
