  • Beautiful location

"This is lovely main floor condo unit located in the centre of the complex. The pool was 30 steps away and the ocean was about 60 steps. The unit is very spacious and very nicely decorated. We were with another couple and found the unit plenty big for all of us. Lots of room in the dining area and in the living room. Very nice covered veranda had a table with six chairs along with two lounge chairs. Nice pool with a little in water sit up bar area. You can walk out on to the beach and walk all the way to downtown Placencia, which is shorter than using the road and whole lot cooler. You need some form of transportation to get into Placencia as it is at least a mile away. Golf cart rentals are available. We had a car rental as we drove in from Belize city, which by the way was a scenic drive and well worth it (3 1/2 hours and you want do it in daylight). It was nice to have a vehicle to visit sites that were further away like the coskscomb reserve and mayan ruins. Overall loved the place and was one of the nicest places in Placencia. We highly recommend it."

  • Spring Breakers!

"We got back last night from our week in Belize. We had a lovely time in Placencia! We drove down from Belize City and arrived at Casa Nettuno, after a 3.5 hour drive. Ignacio was there to greet us and show us the house and provide the keys. We ate dinner that first night at Wendy's in the village and loved our meal! Other places that we ate dinner at included Rumfish y vino, Habanero's in Robert's Grove resort (very tasty mexican dinner), the Cozy Corner (we also had a great beachside breakfast there one morning!) Jennifer cooked chicken and beans and rice for our dinner one night. The last night there, we made our own dinner w/ fresh caught fish that day from John and Chris's fishing trip. Some great lunches that we had were at Dawn's Grill and Go (really liked that place, and we met the owner Dawn who was lovely!), and another great lunch at Sweet Mama's in Robert's Grove resort, which was delicious. We ate lunch at DeTatch one day which was just so-so. We probably would not recommend DeTatch. Brenda's place at the dock was bustling and she provided us with fresh-from-the-oven, homemade macaroons, and lunch more than one day. John the Baker Man also provided us with yummy baked treats (cinnamon rolls and coconut tarts), as did the Above Grounds Coffee Shop (I loved the fresh juice blend for breakfast at Above Ground and the fresh breakfast doughnuts and muffins we had there!) We did a day of snorkeling through Splash, out to Gladden Spit to try to spot some whale sharks (they eluded us that day!) The sea was a bit choppy for snorkeling, but the lunch served onboard and the boat crew were all wonderful. We had a nice time swimming and relaxing in between snorkeling. Not sure it was really worth the price of $200 per person, especially since we did not see any whale sharks and did not see a really big variety of fish while snorkeling. In truth, both my son and I got a bit seasick. My husband really enjoyed his time on the water. Another day we did a Monkey River tour set up by Robert's Grove that was actually a lot of fun for us. We enjoyed talking with our guide,Terry, who lives in the Monkey River village and we loved the simple but delicious lunch served at the village restaurant. We loved the walk in the rainforest and saw MANY howler monkeys while on the hike. The price for the tour seemed like a real bargain for the amount of enjoyment we got out of it. We loved the house and its beach. Ignacio and Jennifer were both wonderful. We will come back!"

  • Relaxing time in Placencia

"Spent a relaxing Christmas Holiday week at Villa Ranguana (party of 9). The villa has a fantastic private beach and view of the ocean, with caretakers living next door. Housekeeping service was very good, with Stan and Mary (managers) providing welcome grocery shopping service upon arrival (dinner and breakfast), and helpful advice about local establishments and things to do. The villa is just far enough from town that, unless you are a strong walker, a car or a golf cart is a must to get around. Placencia is definitely worth a visit, with great places to eat (many noted by other reviewers). We liked the Tipsy Tuna for drinks and the nearby Mariposa (20 min walk) for great food. The villa is well furnished, and the kitchen has everything we needed to make any meal we chose to stay home for. We hired a local chef (recommended by Mary) to cook us several Belizean dinners and breakfasts (great for hassle-free meals without having to leave the villa). We felt very safe – the caretakers were walking the property regularly and their dogs (friendly to guests) announced any arrivals in classic dog fashion. We would definitely stay at Villa Ranguana again!"

  • Absolultely wonderful property

"Our stay the Villa Tipsy Gecko was fantastic. The property is beautiful and very well maintained. It was like staying at our own personal resort. The bedrooms are spacious and the bathrooms like spas. The ability to walk out the back door and have access to a private pool and beach was wonderful. We took full advantage of the kayaks and paddle boards. The support staff were outstanding. They were efficient and unobtrusive. They were both very friendly and always helpful. They really are a treasure and the property management should be grateful for such conscientious employees. Chef Domingo was also wonderful and if we could take him home with us we would. It was such a treat to have someone cook meals for us. Access to the golf cart allowed us to get groceries and to go bowling and have meals at Mango's and Mayan beach resort. Both wonderful. We did not miss having a car at all because we booked our excursions thru a company in Placenia - I think the name was Pirates cove - run by Shane and Rosario. They picked us up at the house for the Mayan ruin tours and by boat on the lagoon side for the snorkeling and Monkey River excursions. All in all our stay at the Tipsy Gecko was everything we hoped for and more. A vacation we will never forget. I would highly recommend this property for anyone looking to vacation in Belize. You won't be disappointed."
