"We had a great time in this little house over Spring Break this year! My husband and I slept upstairs, and our two sons (11 and 15) slept downstairs.. and we all slept incredibly well! The house was clean, comfortable, and informal in the sense that we did not have to worry about our active family breaking anything! We ate breakfasts that included fresh pineapple and papaya on the screened porch, looking out on the beach, and we spent our days noodling around in kayaks (available next door), swimming, snorkeling (on guided tours), zip-lining (1 hour drive from Maya Beach), and eating well in local restaurants and "at home"... The only frustration, as far as our sons were concerned, is that WiFi availability is a little spotty so their phone and ipod use was limited -- which, of course, my husband and I were happy about! I really recommend traveling this way with kids; after a day of adventures, we could rinse and dry-out our gear, eat snacks, read... all without being confined to a hotel room.
For our vacation, we rented a vehicle and drove the 3 hours south from Belize City to Maya Beach, which was easy and fairly straight-forward (but with a lot of speed bumps!), and allowed us to explore, see other parts of the country, and venture into Placencia, when desired. We also rented a little flip-phone through the car rental agency at the Belize City airport, which made local communication with snorkeling tour operators and restaurant reservations very easy. We really didn't want to come home at the end of our vacation! Thank You, Ken and Candace!"
