  • Amazing Family Time

"We decide to take our annual vacation in Belize this August. My family and I definitely enjoyed it. We stayed at the Bamboo House villa and had an amazing experience. It is the place to be especially if you want to experience the real natural feel of Belize on an island. It was a home away from home for us. When we arrived, the Cook Camila had surprised us with some shrimp ceviche, Belizean stew chicken and coconut rice which were delicious. Yvette the new property manager showed us our rooms and the layout of the villa, while Edwin the grounds manager took our luggage to the rooms we chose to stay. Everyone there was so welcoming and most helpful to us. The rooms were cleaned every day by the house keeper. Edwin would take some of us in town once a day on Bamboo House golf cart to get whatever we need, and sometimes we would use the bicycles and ride around to get a better feel of the island. The grounds were beautiful with white sand that you can walk around barefoot. The security at Bamboo House was more than enough, especially since we had small kids. The pool is located on the second floor deck that is ten feet high and the Palapa on the first floor was perfect to sit under and enjoy the view of the lagoon. When we were not at the villa, we were touring the town by the golf carts we rented and enjoying drinks and conversation with locals and other tourists at the nearby lounge, bars and restaurants (Kama lounge, The Palapa, Ak’Bol and Molly’s restaurant and Irish pub to name a few). We went snorkeling, diving and visited Mayan Ruins that Yvette helped organized for us. That was surely the upside of having everyday assistance. The heat was definitely on in San Pedro which made the rain water showers perfect for a cool down after a hot day. A piece of advice, do not forget bug spray, you are in the Caribbean, with that said; it will be all smooth sailing and one awesome vacation. We enjoyed our time in San Pedro, and staying at Bamboo House villa definitely gave us the tropical Caribbean feel of our vacation. When you want the experience of nature, relaxation and fun, BamBoo House Belize would be a place I recommend. It is as close of just half mile from town for when you want the party scene, but far enough to get the peace and quiet for your relaxation."

  • Secluded Sanctuary

"My wife and I recently shared this home for a week with 2 other couples. We enjoyed everything about the property. Beautiful private beach, easy access to town and dinning. Aaron was very accommodating and offered many suggestions for things to do and places to eat. I would highly recommend this property."

  • Will be back!

"Just got back from our stay at the Grand Caribe and am missing Ambergris Caye already! We stayed 12 days in this beautiful condo and had the option of renting it as a 2 bedroom. The resort is first class, staff are more than willing to help you with all your needs. The maids cleaned the condo daily including doing the dishes, laundry and mopping the floors. Everything at the resort is clean and well maintained, we even saw the staff rake and clean the beach area twice daily. The resort is one of the few on the island where you can walk in and swim right from the beach. We also enjoyed snorkeling right off the dock. Love the location of this resort and in our opinion, one of the nicest north of the bridge. You are far away enough from the hustle and bustle of San Pedro yet close enough to bike or hike into town. The resort is also close to a lot of good restaurants. We highly recommend Ak-bol yoga retreat resort, a two minute walk south for their restaurant and if you enjoy yoga, they have classes at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. every day. The prices were great as well, $4 U.S. for 3 chicken salbutes! Try the pizza too, it is amazing ? Also, close by is the Lazy Croc, Aji’s and Capricorn. All have great atmospheres right on the beach. We did visit the Palapa Bar about 5 min. south down the beach, a lot of fun, and if you are hungry try the slow cooked pulled pork. We rented bikes for our entire stay at Maya House bike rentals just a short walk south from the resort. We found this to be our mode of transportation as we enjoyed the exercise and exploring riding up and down the beach path. One day we rode 45 minutes north of the resort and to our surprise found Xtan Ha beach. Most beautiful beach, no seaweed, beautiful blue Caribbean and white sand. They have tables in the water where you can eat or enjoy a cool topical drink. Snorkeling at Hol Chan Marine reserve and Shark Ray alley is a must. If you are not to keen on snorkeling, you can take the glass bottom boat. One day we took the water taxi into Belize city and hired a taxi to take us to the Zoo. Great to see the Jaguars and other native animals in their natural environment. Tips: In San Pedro, Belize Chocolate factory, chocolate chip cookies and brownies, mmm! Eat at Mesa Café #1 restaurant on Tripadvisor but only open 9-5. LOTS to see and do on this island and close by, even golf on a nearby island, ask locals, front desk or get a travel book. Tacogirl.com offers discounts for Tropic Air."

  • Great Place, Amazing Trip!

"My wife and I stayed here for 11 days and we had a completely amazing time, one of our best travel experiences ever actually! Caye Caulker Rentals managed the rental process and they were very friendly, easy to deal with and very accommodating, arranging for any local taxi services that we required. The cottage is very nice with beautiful hardwood finishes and it comes complete with everything that you need for your stay. The provided bicycles were used every day to get into town as the cottage is located on the quieter south side of the island (a 5 min bike ride or 10-15 min walk in to town). While it's next to the local airport, we really didn't notice much noise at all. The location on the beach is beautiful with amazing sunrises and ocean breezes and we had virtually private use of the dock and sandy area for swimming. Every day brought different marine life around the dock, starfish, needle fish, trumpet fish, tarpons, stingrays, etc. Even more important (to us anyway), were the people around us and on the island. The owners Dave and Noelle are very friendly and gracious hosts that live next door. They included us in all of their local activities including Yoga, helping at the local Humane Society and they joined us at many of the local restaurants and bars including the amazing local expat bar "The Barrier Reef Sports Bar" (another highlight for us). They introduced us to many local islanders and expats and we can't express enough how great of a time we had. We also highly enjoyed having their dogs around. They would often come by in the morning to visit and to just generally hang out with us on the beautiful deck. Missing our own dogs, we appreciated the K9 company. We've been to Belize 3 times now, this was our first visit to Caye Caulker and easily our most favorite. You know you've had a great trip when feel like you're leaving friends and family behind :( Thanks Dave and Noelle for such a great time! We can't wait to come back again, VERY SOON hopefully ;) Bring lots of bug spray though, the sand fleas can be bad. Chris & Lorraine"

Belize Travel Tips

Looking for a getaway to unplug, reconnect and relax under the warmth of the sun? You'll find it all in Belize. This Caribbean locale is idyllic for all, from adventure seekers to nature lovers and everyone in between.

Whether you're looking to explore Mayan ruins and hike along rigorous trails or you can't wait to visit the local museums and experience traditional flavors each time you dine, Belize is sure to be a vacation spot you won't soon forget.

With its amazing, warm climate, you'll want to spend as much time outdoors as you can, and Belize features a host of national parks and wildlife sanctuaries to explore. You can see more than 500 species of birds as well as monkeys, crocodiles, lizards and other native creatures. There's also plenty of space to hike or bike and beaches to relax on. Belize is also an excellent spot to learn about history, as it was home to one of the world's most mysterious civilizations - the Mayans.

Things to Do in Belize

- Belize Barrier Reef: Explore the world under the sea at the Belize Barrier Reef, which is the second longest in the world. It's home to more than 100 types of coral and 500 species of fish, making it a huge attraction in Belize. Plan a snorkeling adventure to swim through the gloriously turquoise waters as you marvel at the cornucopia of life below the surface. As you get deeper, you can even check out underwater caves and walls, as well as the famous Blue Hole. On the surface, you can take out a kayak and paddle around from one islet to another, try windsurfing or simply lounge in the sound, listening to the relaxing sounds of the water.

- Altun Ha: Altun Ha is the most popular Mayan ruin to visit and easily accessible from Belize City. Here you'll find temples all around that provide plenty of information on the history of the Mayan culture. For 25 square miles, you'll be surrounded by forests and vegetation as you explore. In the Temple of the Masonry Altars, which is the largest, you'll find a jade replica of a Mayan sun god. This temple was used for religious rites and activities, and there's evidence of bloodletting and ceremonial sacrifices. The Temple of the Green Tomb is known for being a place where a Mayan priest-king made his funeral chamber, and it was found filled with treasures and offerings. It's called the green tomb because 300 jade pieces were discovered there.

- Museum of Belize: History buffs will love a visit to the Museum of Belize, which collects, preserves and displays objects with artistic, historical and scientific interest. You'll have the chance to see Belize's earliest stamp depicting Queen Victoria from 1937, a preserved jail cell and inmate, a Buenavista vase depicting the mythical Mayan hero twins doing a victory dance over the Lords of Xibalba and much more about the past and culture of the area.

- Xunantunich: This ancient archeological site is situated atop a ridge over the Mopan River. Xunantunich, which means stone woman in the Mayan language, is a major center for ceremonies that you can tour. It's accessible by ferry daily, and its name refers to a ghost woman many people have claimed to see who continues to haunt. She's said to be dressed all in white, but her most noticeable feature are her fire-red, glowing eyes. She's been known to appear in front of El Castillo, climbs the impressive stone staircase, then disappears into a wall. Take a tour here to see her for yourself!

Dining in Belize

- Riverside Tavern: One of Belize's most popular dining locations is Riverside Tavern, where you can enjoy a meal both indoors and outdoors. Steaks are a specialty here, but there ribs are just as tasty. For something a little lighter try the seared tuna, coconut or jerk shrimp, or grilled snapper. It's a laid-back sort of place, but after dark, shorts, sleeveless shirts and sandals are discouraged. So, put on your nicer dinner attire and treat yourself to a lovely meal overlooking Haulover Creek.

- Bird's Isle: Another favorite dining destination in Belize is Bird's Isle in Belize City. Step inside and it will feel like an oasis that locals and visitors alike enjoy. Sip on fresh-squeezed juice in the morning or a cold beer later in the day as you sample a stellar burger or snacks like conch fritters. Thursday nights there's karaoke, so warm up those vocal chords and get ready to belt out your favorite tune. Some nights there's also live music, so wear your dancing shoes just in case.
