  • Gorgeous! Lime leaf is Perfect for a relaxing tropical vacation

"Both the property manager Greg and DeDe's rental car service (the owner "deadman") were excellent. Wonderful location! We loved every moment of our trip. Thank you CJ, we will be back!!!"

  • Nit-picker

"We had a fabulous time! There are a couple of very minor flaws which I may be the only one to notice, like an inoperative bathroom window and a few fogged thermo-panes, only one of which was annoying. It is listed as limited accessibility, but I am handicapped and found NO inconvenience. Our healthy offspring thrived on the available walks and walking access to the village and other destinations. Ten mile excursions for them were a daily occurrence and thoroughly enjoyable. We never used the air-conditioning because the ventilation is remarkable. Our children, however, found the upper floors more comfortable for sleeping with it on; they are late sleepers and the island's plethora of feral chickens woke them a bit early. We ARE returning!"

  • Fantastic Family Vacation

"The villa was very well suited for our family of 8 including 2 kids with everyone having their own bedroom and bathroom as well as plenty of space to spread out in. Jon and Rohan met us at the West End Ferry dock with our rental vehicle as well as another car for our luggage and away we went on our vacation adventure. Jon bought us roti's from D'Coalpot for our first dinner and the frig was well stocked with breakfast items for the next day which was most appreciated. The view from the open air spaces are breathtaking especially with almost daily morning rainbows! We spent our days exploring different beaches ( our favorites were Cane Garden when no cruise ships are in and Josiah Bay for boarding)and our nights gathered around the big dining with table eating Caribbean dinners prepared by our oldest son and playing dominos and cards. We would not hesitate to recommend this villa and found Jon to be very accommodating whenever we called with a question. We hope to return soon to Tortola and the Limeberry Villa"

  • ocean view, quiet, comfort and rainbows

"We were fortunate to stay for 10 days at Prettyview Villa. And as the name says, the view from this little villa is great—a gorgeous vista of green sloping down to the turquoise and blue sea off Lambert Beach. The outside is beautifully landscaped with plants, flowers, fruit trees and resident boulders. You’ll see hummingbirds or the occasional bannaquit, and at night hear ocean and the ever-present coquí. Inside this one room villa, surrounded on two walls by sliding doors, you’ll find a quiet, nicely acquitted space. Having a microwave and mini-fridge in the room is very convenient. The sitting space is nice, the Internet wifi is reliable, and there is a large closet with lots of hanging space (though no dresser). The bathroom has two large showers, one indoor (with two shower heads) and one outdoor for when you just want to be closer to nature. The kitchen on the lower level has a full size fridge with freezer and stove, and to be honest, we used it a lot! There are a lot of stairs to reach the villa from the road, as this house is almost literally built into the hillside, so beware if that should be a concern. The location is great for a couple that want to spend a quiet vacation, as the east side of the island seems much quieter than the west end. We love to sleep, swim, snorkel, read, eat and drink, and this is a great place for that kind of vacation. We found plenty of nice beaches nearby, including a sandy cove (Well Bay) that turned out to be an interesting place to snorkel (we were told we might find starfish, but we found huge crustaceans and upside down jelly fish). Assuming you rent a car, there are a lot of places to visit nearby, Lambert Beach and Long Bay, Trellis Bay (renowned for full moon parties), the aforementioned Well Bay, and the ferry dock that can take you to several other islands, including Virgin Gorda with its fascinating Baths. We had a wonderful time at Prettyview and would love to visit again. We are recommending it to our friends. We experienced two daytime short rains while we were there, one lasting about thirty minutes and the other off-and-on for two hours. If the rain comes from the east, down the hill, it may likely result in a rainbow out off Lambert Beach… So, to sum up: an ocean view, quiet, comfort and rainbows."

Jost Van Dyke Travel Tips

Island Activities at Jost Van Dyk Vacation Rentals

Jost Van Dyk is well known to the British Virgin Island sailing community. Several charter yachts are moored permanently at Great Harbour and can be hired for afternoon or day excursions. Pack your swimsuit and snorkeling gear as many of the cruises take you out to popular snorkeling sites. In some of the bays, there are reefs that can be accessed from the beach. A short swim out and you can be enchanted with colorful corals and hundreds of reef fish.

For those that want to explore more of the pristine underwater world, you can sign up with one of the local scuba diving charter companies. In season, the dive boats head out two or three times a day. The diving conditions are excellent. You can expect calm turquoise waters, warm water temperatures, brilliantly clear visibility and great marine life.

There are a few island trails that you can explore at leisure. One route takes you up over the mountains from Great Harbour to White Bay Beach. There you can enjoy a cocktail at the infamous Soggy Dollar Bar and get to mingle with other visitors and locals. If you don’t feel like hiking back to your vacation home, you can simply call a cab that will take you back to your doorstep.

Eating out and socializing is very much part of the culture on Jost Van Dyk. The island is known for its excellent seafood and in particular, its crayfish dishes. Even breakfast is a special occasion with fresh fruit, cinnamon buns and coconut cakes on the menu.

The Vibe of Jost Van Dyk Travel

Jost Van Dyk is a favorite destination for yachting enthusiasts. The sheltered bays of Great Harbour and Little Harbour provide safe anchorages. Jost Van Dyk has only a handful of permanent residents and the island has a distinct Robinson Crusoe feel about it. The beaches are characterized by beach bars and laid-back restaurants. There is no rush on the island and you will enjoy your vacation most if you have the same chilled-out approach. Some bars even allow you to mix your own cocktails and simply leave your payment behind the bar. Great Harbour is famous for its New Year’s Eve party when the festivities have the reputation of getting quite raucous.

Lazy Days at Jost Van Dyk Resorts

The vacation homes on Jost Van Dyk offer island comfort and tranquility. Most are located in the community of Great Harbour and many have spectacular views overlooking the bay. It won’t take long to get into the relaxed local mode. You can amble down to the beachfront for breakfast or enjoy your coffee out on the deck. Spend your days relaxing with a good book in a hammock set in lush tropical gardens and listen to the birds in the trees overhead. Some villas have their own private stretch of beach where you can swim or work on your tan. The nice thing about staying in such a small community is that to get to the beachfront restaurants, you can simply paddle across on a kayak or amble down the footpath.

Getting to British Virgin Island Vacation Rentals on Jost Van Dyk

Jost Van Dyk is the smallest of the British Virgin Islands. It is a mere eight square miles in size and located approximately five miles northwest Tortola, the main island in the British Virgin Islands. Most visitors arrive by yacht or make use of the high-speed ferry that operates between Tortola and the Great Harbour on Jost Van Dyk. For those looking for a speedy transfer, helicopter charters can be arranged on request.
