  • Paradise!

"Our family spent Christmas week, 2014 at Makere. After many hours of internet research, we chose this Tortola home for many reasons, such as: It's central location on the island; the pool; breathtaking views and layout. The house, cottage and grounds were exactly as shown in the photos. It suited our family of 4 perfectly. Our two "young-adult" sons had the cottage to themselves, while my husband and I slept in the main house. The weather and air temperature in December was perfect; the views of Cane Garden Bay spectacular. Like other families, we rented our jeep from Jerry's Rentals, which is a fun necessity for getting around. We explored many of the island beaches, but Brewer's Bay Beach was our favorite and just a short 5 minute drive from Makere. Dinners at Myett's close by were superb for both food & ambience. When not sunbathing by the pool, we took advantage of the excellent ferry services, both from Road Town and West End, to other beautiful BVI islands like Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke and Anegada! Mobbsie, the usual caretaker, was away this week, but Devon stepped in and made sure we felt at ease and at home, which we did. Oh, and having the washer/dryer onsite is a bonus. Other highlights were the pizza at Pusser's Pub in Road Town (they even have a take out window), as well as lunch at the Sugar Mill beach restaurant (allow plenty of time). Thank you Tina & Adam for opening up your wonderful island home. Now that we know how easy it is to travel there from the US, we hope to go back some day. Flying in and out of St. Thomas was a breeze. Utilizing the ferry system to/from Tortola, as well as all the other islands was a fun, easy and relaxing way to travel. It truly is Paradise!!!"

  • Breathtaking and peaceful experience

"We just finished a two-week vacation at Makere Cottage, celebrating 20 years of marriage. Wow, the entire two weeks was absolute perfection. The majority of our time was spent being mesmerized by the breathtaking view. Every day, I was reminded of this quote (by good ol’ Anonymous): “Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.” Amen. We basically wore out a path between the deck, the couch (with the French doors open to the view), and the pool area…celebrating life’s moments – meals, meditation, happy hour, deep conversations, and just “being”. We loved everything about Makere – the beautiful deck, the air-conditioned bedroom, the cleanliness, the quiet and peacefulness, the proximity to Cane Garden Bay, the privacy, the stunning and majestic views, the landscaping and lush greenery and trees, the beautiful pool area, and the friendliness and hospitality of the owner and nearby property manager. We felt very loved, welcomed, and cared for and are beyond appreciative of every little detail that made up this unforgettable vacation. I am returning to life at home with a renewed sense of peace and enlightenment and cannot wait to share it with others. If you choose to stay at Makere, know that you will be richly blessed! Thank you, Tina & Adam. Thank you, Mobbsie. You will not be forgotten!"

  • Sweet Retreat

"This was my 4th visit to Cane Garden Bay, and my first time staying at Cane Garden Bay Cottages. Each of my visits has been at the end of a 7-10 day sailboat charter, so I am looking to fully relax and be gentle to myself, before my return to reality. I spent 3 nights in Cottage 4. I had seen the cottages on a previous visit, and they looked inviting. The description on their website was apt, and my expectations were not disappointed. Reserving the place with Samantha was straight forward, and well managed, and the place was well ready upon my arrival. The cottage was welcoming, bright and airy. It had all the amenities I required, with a tidy kitchen for meal preparation, (though I ate out for most meals), a cold fridge for drinks, and a comfortable bed and bathroom. The overhead fans and large screened windows provided ample breezes for escaping the heat of the day - not that I really wanted to. Nestled in the edge of a jungle-like grove, surrounded by a large, well manicured yard, the cottage was a sweet retreat from the "hustle and bustle" of the main street and beach. The beach, restaurants and bars were easy steps away. I could watch the sunset from my front step, through the palm trees, enjoying a cocktail. Of course the ubiquitous roosters were my alarm clock, sounding off perhaps a bit earlier than I had wished for. I thoroughly enjoyed my short visit and would return for an extended stay. I have no problem being entertained while passing time in Cane Garden Bay, and could easily make Cottage 4 my home for a while."

  • BEAUTIFUL LOCATION FOR A FAMILY VACATION

"The pictures are beautiful but seeing and being in this place in person was amazing! The pictures don't quite do it justice - the property expands on forever and its hard to believe when you get there that you have the whole place to yourself! We stayed for a week with my parents and our two kids and it was perfect because my parents had the spacious master suite to themselves on one side of the property and my husband and I and our two kids had the two bedroom guest house to ourselves on the other side of the property. They were far enough away at times that they probably felt like they were on their own little vacation! The furnishings are all up to date and the landscaping is immaculate - everything is in its perfect place. The steps down to the beach are a bit treacherous (my 2.5 year old loved them though!) but very nicely done. We never tried to walk to Cane Garden Bay - although my parents did a couple times - with kids it would just be too much. The drive is less than 3 minutes though. It's a prime location and we never got tired of sitting out on the many balconies or by the pool, looking at the beautiful boats in Cane Garden Bay. In the evening, you can catch a glimpse of the sunset as well. Sam and her team were incredible - they did everything for us - booked our rental car, met my parents to show them the place and get them situated, organized our groceries and baby gear being delivered, met us at the ferry when we arrived later than my parents so we could follow them to the place in our rental car. No detail was overlooked and it was so nice to have them helping us out! We would definitely go back again and highly recommend this place for a trip with parents and kids and/or multiple families."
