Explore the ruins of a variety of original buildings here, such as Fort Recovery. Dating from the early 1600s, the Fort probably gets its name from being used as a facility for wounded soldiers. One of the fascinating things about the fort is its location on the beach, instead of the traditional location of high ground. Fort Burt, on the other hand, is located on higher ground yet all that remains of the fort is a solitary cannon, still displayed overlooking the harbor. Take a break from the glorious beaches and head inland into the mountains to visit Sage Mountain National Park, where the vestiges of the primeval rain forest still remain. Along the mountain ridge, discover the villages were local life carries on much as it has for centuries.

The main town is Road Town. Here, visitors will find a great selection of shops selling locally made jewelry, spices, silk screen fabrics and art. There are also excellent restaurants to try the local dishes such as the fresh fish dishes of lobster and conch or spicy goat curries and "Johnny Cakes." Here, visitors may also enjoy a wander through the pergolas and vine-covered paths at O’Neil Botanic Gardens.
