  • Jim and Shelley Charleston, SC

"My wife and I have never been on Tortorla. The apartment was everything we could of asked for. We made friends as soon as we arrived and found we had picked a place that was ideally situated on the island. There are two beaches to the left and right of the apartment that are easy to access by foot. The pool is a great place to gather in the evening for a drink and some great conversation. This is a great place to unwind. The WI FI was consistent and I was able to stream some great music through my Ipad at the pool. The apartment comes with Boogie the dog who is there when you might be missing your own pet from home. Hi to Gary and Heather who were our hosts. We want to come back. We are back in the rut. Cheers, Jim and Shelley"

  • Paradise

"We stayed at Gestalt at Steele Point this past week to celebrate my 50th birthday. I would suggest paradise is an understatement, and the better description should be UTOPIA. From the panoramic vistas from each room, the outdoor showers, the gourmet outdoor kitchen along with the close proximity to the ferry makes this villa an ideal vacation home to stay with family or friends. Irina should be proud of her property, and vacationers should feel lucky to have the opportunity to rent such a beautiful estate."

  • Lovely Home - Great Location!

"Our family had a wonderful vacation in the Murray House! The house was very well equipped. The homeowners thought of everything, including a speaker for our iphone music, rafts, and much appreciated beach chairs! The house is beautiful and we enjoyed the pool every afternoon. Murray house is close to gorgeous Long Bay Beach and Smugglers Cove... two of our favorite beaches. We all enjoyed our morning exercise walk down to Long Bay. Would love to return!"

  • Great stay!

"Beautiful views! Jan is a great host and tries to do what she can to ensure a good visit. She offered to drive us to the ferry if we wanted to do an overnight on one of the islands so we didn't have to leave our car unattended. Her villa is wonderful, plenty spacious for our family of 3. View is fantastic, you can see Virgin Gorda and several small islands and you look down on a beautiful beach. The deck has comfortable chairs for relaxing and a large table so you can enjoy meals outside. We were a bit concerned about being across from the airport, but you're not that close it wasn't bothersome and was actually fun to watch the planes come and go. There's not a ton of traffic and there's no loud jets. The property doesn't have A/C but we opened the windows at night and being up on a hill we had plenty of breeze so we were very comfortable and it was fun to fall asleep and wake-up to the sound of the ocean. We really enjoyed the location. 2 minutes to Trellis bay where you can catch ferries for island hoping, only a 15 minute ride to Virgin Gorda. Trellis has several good restaurants and a bit of night life if you're looking for that (days at the beach did us in). There's also restaurants and supermarkets in East End only 7 minutes away. Being such a small island you're not far from anything. We drove all over exploring the beaches and were never more than 30-40 minutes from home. Have to say one of the best beaches was right below the villa. Long Bay East. A mile or so stretch of sandy beach that was almost always empty, had a beautiful view had GREAT snorkeling. The other 2 good snorkeling spots was Smugglers Cove and Brewsters. A few other points. Parking is directly next to the villa which hasn't been the case at some other places we've stayed. Big help when you're loading and unloading all your gear for the day. Jan provides plenty of towels and chairs for your beach time. The one thing that would have been nice is a cooler. Although I'm sure if we mentioned it she would have gotten us one. She offered to pick up a few things for breakfast if we didn't have time to shop on our first night. She's great! This was our first trip to Tortola and we'll certainly be back and when we do we'll stay with Jan again."

Tortola Travel Tips

Discover Tortola Vacation Rentals

Known as "nature’s little secret," the British Virgin Islands really are the place for a peaceful vacation to rediscover life’s simple pleasures. As there are no international flights onto the island, Tortola travel is available via a variety of larger Caribbean airports, such as those on Antigua, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas or St. Kitts. Being in the Caribbean, naturally, the weather is just about perfect all year-round. While it is British territory, the currency is the U.S. dollar and most places do take major credit cards. The four main islands are Anegada, Jost van Dyke, Tortola and Virgin Gorda. The largest of these is Tortola.

White Sandy Beaches With a Dark Green Mountain Backdrop

Tortola resorts are near the white sandy beaches, with a back drop of dark green mountains with a sheltered harbor, usually filled with yachts. The island has many safe anchorages in areas, such as Brandywine Bay, Hodge’s Creek, Marina Cay and Trellis Bay. These make it a perfect island for boaters. Beaches with palm trees line the coast. Areas such as Apple Bay, Elizabeth Beach, Long Bay Beach and Smuggler’s Cove are great places for a swim, snorkeling, scuba diving or fishing among the many great activities on offer.

Visitors can learn more about the unique history of the British Virgin Islands at the BVI Folk Museum. Take a tour of Callwood’s Rum Distillery where visitors can learn about the production of the famous local drink before sampling the final result. Explore the ruins of a variety of original buildings here, such as Fort Recovery. Dating from the early 1600s, the Fort probably gets its name from being used as a facility for wounded soldiers. One of the fascinating things about the fort is its location on the beach, instead of the traditional location of high ground. Fort Burt, on the other hand, is located on higher ground yet all that remains of the fort is a solitary cannon, still displayed overlooking the harbor. Take a break from the glorious beaches and head inland into the mountains to visit Sage Mountain National Park, where the vestiges of the primeval rain forest still remain. Along the mountain ridge, discover the villages were local life carries on much as it has for centuries.

The main town is Road Town. Here, visitors will find a great selection of shops selling locally made jewelry, spices, silk screen fabrics and art. There are also excellent restaurants to try the local dishes such as the fresh fish dishes of lobster and conch or spicy goat curries and "Johnny Cakes." Here, visitors may also enjoy a wander through the pergolas and vine-covered paths at O’Neil Botanic Gardens.

Tortola Resorts are Perfect Bases to Discover the British Virgin Islands

Tortola vacation rentals are also ideal bases for exploring the variety of other islands that make up the British Virgin Islands. On these islands, visitors will have a fascinating time exploring the various ruins from the island’s original African and Indian inhabitants as well as the secluded beaches and bays. During the fall and winter months, watch for the whales and dolphins as they make their way past the islands.

To the Infinity Pool and Beyond!

Tortola vacation rentals come in a wide variety of sizes to suit any requirement. Choose from a beautiful villa for two with a hot tub and infinity pool or a luxuriously spacious home to take a large family or group of friends. What is guaranteed is that each home is beautifully decorated and well equipped with everything to make a vacation special. These unique properties have modern conveniences such as DVD players, film and music libraries, stereo systems, and BBQs. Many even include internet access and will welcome pets.
