Grand Cayman Travel Tips

Get Away to Grand Cayman

When planning a tropical getaway, one of the first places that comes to mind is the Cayman Islands, perhaps Grand Cayman in particular. The Cayman Islands are nestled in the calm, crystal blue waters of the Caribbean. Just three small islands comprise the great Cayman Islands: Grand Cayman, Little Cayman, and Cayman Brac. All this glory and wonder is located just 480 miles south of Miami so it really is not that far away!

Getting to Your Grand Cayman Getaway

Grand Cayman travel is not as hard as you may think. A flight from Miami is just over an hour which means you can get to the Cayman Islands in virtually no time, especially if you live on the eastern seaboard. As you book your travel plans, regardless of your origin, it is good to know that the best airport to fly into is Owen Roberts International Airport, located on Grand Cayman. Every week there are almost 60 flights going into the Caymans which means your travel plans can be made to fit in with your busy lifestyle.

Activities for Your Grand Cayman Vacation

No matter your age, you will find plenty of activities to keep you busy while staying in Grand Cayman resorts. A Grand Cayman vacation is perfect for the entire family. The shared fun and experiences you will have really sets this destination apart from other tropical settings. While you can have plenty of fun in the sun on Seven Mile Beach, there are lots of new things to try as well. Grand Cayman is known for it scuba diving and underwater adventures. Both experienced divers and first-time snorkelers will have countless opportunities to get up close and personal with the deep blue sea. Check out Stingray City or shipwreck!

Activities for the Kids

A family vacation must include activities and adventures for everyone involved, even the kids! While most kids will love the beaches and everything the wonderful ocean has to offer, there is so much more to do on Grand Cayman. Remember, time spent in Grand Cayman vacation rentals means everyone can pick a day’s escape! Take the kids to play with the sea turtles at Boatswain’s Beach, skateboarding at Black Pearl Skate and Surf Park, or even aboard a real pirate ship! Just remember, even if you do not bring the kids along, you can still check these places out. There is no age limit to fun!

Getting Around Grand Cayman

Grand Cayman is pretty small but all destinations are not within walking distance. Around George Town harbor, you will find a small area filled with plenty of shops and eateries where you can walk around but that is really about it. There are plenty of taxis, buses, and car rental offices. If you decide to rent a car, you must be 21 years of age. Additionally, remember to drive on the left side of the road and always wear your seatbelt! For those that do not want to rely on a rental car or public transportation, the option to rent a moped or scooter is perfect! Scooters are affordable and lots of fun.

Best Time for Grand Cayman

The temperatures range from 72 degrees F to 88 degreesF throughout the year, so feel free to plan a Grand Cayman adventure any time of year. Whenever you want to escape it all, book a flight! Warm and sunny all year means a Cayman vacation is hard to beat. Though it is perfectly fine to visit just about any time of year, your best bet is probably January, February, or March. During these months, the climate is at its mildest. There is not any daylight saving time either. So the difference in day length does not vary much between summer and winter.

Grand Cayman does have two rainy seasons, from May to June and then again from September to November. Though the rainfall can be quite heavy, the sun dries everything out quickly. You should plan your trip with hurricane season in mind. Remember, hurricane season runs from June through November, so it is best to avoid those months.
