"We had 8 people staying at the Estate during out visit -- 2 married couples, and 4 college kids. While Richard and Marilyn were back in the US, their friend picked us up at the airport and toted all of our luggage back to the house. We had arrived late and had our own rental van, but Richard ensured that we would have an escort and a luggage hauler for our trip to the house. We were spoiled from the moment we arrived! Ottis and Shelley were unbelievably accommodating and attentive, going well above and beyond anything we would have expected. They "rescued" us over and over again from our own American stupidity -- too many groceries to fit in the van, can't get the fans/air conditioners turned on, how do you light the grill, where should we eat, how do we get there -- endless requests with simple answers all given with precious smiles and patience! By the end of the week, we were fearless and took a trip to Westpunt -- but Ottis checked on us via the provided cell phone all along the way to make sure we were okay. So, making two new Curacao friends was the highlight of our trip. That does not, however, take away from the wonderful vistas and outdoor areas that characterize this beautiful house. It is majestically historic: the artwork is captivating, the bedrooms and baths are spacious, and the location is perfect. It is a renovated property and the "touches" throughout (check out the mermaid lights) are just fabulous. Yes, there are some older properties which between the house and "town" but we never felt unsafe and our college kids walked to town several times without worry. We could not get over the spaciousness of the outdoor areas (where we spent all of our waking time) and the number of different "spots" we could choose to read a book, listen to the oceans waves crash against the shore, take a nap, etc. We never spent any time in the downstairs living areas, except the guys watched a golf tournament in the TV room (which is air conditioned). Our only real issue with the house was the kitchen. It is perfectly located just off the lanai, and just fine for breakfasts, lunches and snacks. However, we like to cook and found the stove sub-par and the cooking equipment, knives and utensils not as well-stocked as we would have liked. I'm sure most visitors prefer to eat out for most meals, so if that is you, this would be no deterrent whatsoever. We are already talking about how we might get back to Sirena Bay Estate in the future!"
