"Property was just as pictured and described. Owner was very helpful and available when contacted before our visit to discuss location, arranging taxi at airport, suggesting places to visit. They introduced us to a great driver who assisted us all week. It was a good idea not for us to rent a vehicle as driving in cabarete takes much local experience. Condo was clean and spacious for our group of 7 adults .. Great dining setting. Friendly people staying at other condos there as we shared the pool. Challenges were ... Water pressure to top floor was inconsistent and electrical brown outs. Owner was very responsive to correct a short electrical outage. Minor issues as our positive experiences outweighed these. Location is excellent with beach, groceria, restaurants, bank close by so we could experience the local village life."

  • Big, comfortable house with fantastic pool

"Along with another family, we stayed at this house over Semana Santa. It was extremely comfortable for all 10 of us, with enough bedrooms and space to hang out. Both upstairs and downstairs are very nice and beds are comfy, but upstairs feels more elegant and is much lighter. The house has fantastic views and a gorgeous pool. The weather was actually pretty stormy while we were there so we did not use the gazebo as much as expected but the house was big enough that even in bad weather we were all happy. The house is very nicely furnished and well stocked with kitchen equipment, towels, etc. The house is a great place to be with a group who wants to hang out together. It is about 1 mile from the main beach in Cabarete and you would probably want to drive to go to the restaurants there. When the tide is low, you can walk along the beach to the main beach as well but it takes 20 minutes or so. There are many excursions possible by car. We walked a lot on the beach and also rode horses from the house -- beautiful! In arranging the rental, Vickie was extremely responsive and helpful in response to inquiries. The staff at the house (especially Mathilda and Richard) were excellent. We had minor problems like an air conditioner not working but the staff got it fixed promptly. The manager was new and we didn't see him much. The only thing I would suggest is that the manager could be a little more proactive in explaining about tips, how much to pay staff for extra work, recommending things to do, etc. We managed it fine, but we live in the DR and speak Spanish. Mathilda cooked most dinners for us and they were fantastic. Cabarete is a great place to go with kids, esp teenagers, as there are many sports offered. We didn't do too many excursions due to the bad weather, but we did go to Sosua and we also rented stand-up paddleboards at Cabarete beach. Our kids were in the pool every free minute. I would definitely recommend this house for a larger group. Thanks, Vickie, for a fantastic vacation!"

  • Great week in paradise

"My family of eight 3 daughters and their spouses/friends joined my wife and I for a week in Cabarete. The Villa is perfect for a large family that wants to have a relaxful time. The rooms are spacious and the living room, dining area and deck are perfect for family time. You are right on the ocean and there is a wonderful pool in the front. Great for walking the beach. You cannot really walk into the town because the tide blocks you at a couple of places when it is high. But a taxi to town is very inexpensive and seems always available. If you want a Villa in the middle of things this is not the place. If you want a place to relax, sun, read a book, have wonderful time with your kids, you cannot get any better."

Cabarete Travel Tips

Enjoy the Laid-Back Ambiance at Cabarete Vacation Rentals

Cabarete is a small laid-back Caribbean village located on the northern shore of the Dominican Republic. It’s one of those idyllic retreats that you see in movies but seldom get to experience. Your booking confirmation should come with a warning that you may be tempted to never leave. In fact, many visitors have made this piece of paradise their home. Staying in a vacation home in Cabarete can allow you to experience this life, even if it is just for a short while. The nightlife is vibrant with beach bars, restaurants, discos and casinos staying open late. Mingle with the locals and enjoy some Latin beats on the dance floor. Many visitors to Cabarete are young people looking for a fun-filled vacation and as promised, the island delivers.

Cabarete Travel Tips

The Puerto Plata International Airport is just a 25-minute drive from Cabarete. Taxis provide transport from the airport into town or alternatively, you can hire a car. The airport services a number of North American and European carriers. As an alternative, you can also fly into Santo Domingo, Punta Cana or Santiago. However, getting to Cabarete from these other airports can be time consuming and expensive and therefore not worthwhile. It’s a good idea to get a map of the Dominican Republic before traveling so that you can familiarize yourself with the different areas and travel distances between the cities and towns. When departing from the island, make sure you reconfirm your flight departure time well in advance. Sometimes weather dictates schedule changes so it’s important to check this information before traveling to the airport.

Cabarete was put on the map by the kite boarding and windsurfing fraternity. The area was discovered to have the perfect combination of wind and wave conditions to allow excellent windsurfing and kite boarding virtually year-round. On any given day, you can see the colorful sails and kites spread out across the bay. El Encuento Beach is a popular surf spot nearby.

Guided mountain biking tours are offered for riders of all levels. If you’re a novice, you can enjoy the island's sights as you cycle around on wide roads and paths. More experienced riders can follow the trails that cut through forests and ascend the rugged terrain that makes up this beautiful island.

A nine-hole golf course is minutes outside of Cabarete and further east is the 18-hole Cabrera Playa Grande Golf course which was designed by Robert Trent Jones. Said to have some of the most beautiful fairways in all of the Caribbean, it’s be one of the most enjoyable rounds you’re likely to play.

The Cabarete Caves are part of the nearby El Choco National Park. The caves contain relics from the Taino natives who inhabited the island prior to the Columbian era. Guided tours will provide you with interesting facts about these early inhabitants.

Cabarete Is a Destination for All Seasons

Located on the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean, Cabarete enjoys a warm tropical climate. Summers are hot and winters hardly even exist. The only difference being that the cooler months have lower levels of humidity. Isolated rain occurs throughout summer but these clear up quickly. The only downside of the weather at Cabarete is that the island is in the hurricane belt and tropical storms occur frequently in the later summer months.
