"My wife and I just returned from staying two weeks in this lovely spot! This first floor apartment is well suited for two people, very efficiently laid out, and a good base of operations. It was also very clean, although sand was easily tracked in (it is ON the beach!). The little gas stove was fun to cook with and we ended up making nearly all of our meals in the kitchen. The local Thai restaurant was nice, but we preferred the Italian place, D'Angelos, when we did go out to eat. Both were an easy <5 minute walk from the apartment.
Before we arrived, we opted to have the local driver pick us up at the airport and take us to the supermarket at the San Juan shopping center (about halfway between the airport and apartment). This was a very good idea as we were able to stock up on groceries that lasted most of the visit. The driver Cesar was prompt, courteous, and did not rush us with the shopping. The property managers, Michael and Galya, were extremely lovely people who provided an excellent introduction to the area and some basics for getting around. Additionally, Virginia was easy to work with while arranging our stay.
The apartment is located in a gated residential area with a mix of locals, ex-pats, and tourists in a neighborhood that felt secure. The private beach is mere steps out the door and is perhaps the cleanest in the area. Be warned that capitalism is alive and well on the beach. Local agents will approach you on the beach to try and convince you go into their shops or book activities. They are persistent, but will back off if you are firm with them. Caveat emptor. This annoyance is offset by the overall jovial nature of the beach.
Because it was so hot during the day, there was a very active and loud nightlife. The Dominicans seem to like their music played at 110 decibels! We visited in June, so this may not apply during other times of the year. The two air conditioning units in the apartment allowed it to become a cool, quiet (or at least muffled) hideaway.
Our favorite activities included long walks up and down the beach, lounging on the nice beach chairs, and exploring the local markets and shops. We were particularly fond of the French bakery and the BAM grocery store, both about a 10 minute walk from the apartment. For diving, we used Dressel Divers who operate out of the Iberostar resort. They are excellent and very professional.
We would definitely go back to this apartment and highly recommend it."
