"We stayed here for a week in early January 2015. It was exactly what we needed - right on the beach with a pool and close to a grocery store (Janet's). It was nice to have a washer/dryer in the unit for the unexpected soda spill on my white shirt. There's also a blender so we were able to make pina coladas. And the tv, while small, was nice for catching up on stateside news. And there is also wifi in the unit. We were able to cook some meals at home but we also went out a few times - Gorditos, Mojito Bar, etc. There's also a colmado right outside the front for any last minute little incidentals that are needed. We thought about going to Monkey Jungle but decided against it after hearing from several folks that it was a very basic zip line and not as good as the one outside of Santo Domingo. Regardless, the beach and surf activities kept us happy. I've already inquired about our next stay!"

"Where to begin! My three girlfriends and I absolutely loved staying at this villa. The house itself is gorgeous and spacious. The housekeeper's services are attentive and first-rate. The owner is a quick and thorough communicator. The resort deserves the accolades it's received. All services from the hotel were available to us, and were very prompt and helpful. One of us received a massage at the spa and it was excellent. The restaurants are all tasty and mostly reasonably priced. The market is a bit more well-stocked than some of the previous posts had led us to believe. If you are considering staying in this area, this is highly worth your consideration. You will need to either rent a car or use taxi services to get around. I have provided the owner with contact information for the local taxi service we used as it was excellent. This area of the DR is so worth exploring: the beaches are gorgeous, the whale watching opportunities January-March amazing (that is the main thing that brought us here), and Los Haitises national park quite stunning. And there's more that we didn't get to in a week! Enjoy!"

"We researched our next Spring Break vacation until we found the perfect spot in Villa Gordon. Hidden away between Sosua and Cabarete was a little community of 10+ homes, a hotel, and an amazing restaurant all behind a guarded gate. This beach house was perfect for our extended family of 11 to visit and hang out for the week. With the four bedrooms off to the left side and the main house with two master suites, living room, dining room, and kitchen was a great place to stay for our first trip to the DR. Watch the videos Gordon sends you before you come, it will help a bit. Enjoy the comfy couches outside with 'Mini' the sweet, sweet kitty who sits on your lap. The pool gets shaded in the afternoon. The ocean right outside is dangerous but walk to the point on the right (AFTER the big rock) and it's shallow a good ways out, or go past the 3rd surf camp (10m walk) to where there are no rocks, gentle swells, and perfect waves for your kids. Or if you surf, rent a board! The life guard walking the beach was a bonus!
Franklin (one of the best parts of the trip) picked us up from the airport and was our taxi the whole week. Johanny and Cathy, our maids for the week, were very industrious and hard workers and... they made breakfast for us EVERY single morning. It was heaven. Make sure your kitchen is stocked. For extra you can get a house-keepers lunch and everything was so good.
Cons - Just a few!
- Biggest problem was the wifi. They were not reliable at all. At. All. Chez Arsenio had a much stronger connection and it was sad the way we ran over there to download our email, or a book on our Kindle. The bedrooms do not get it at all (planned that way). The living room goes out every other day so you can't stream Pandora to the music speakers.
- It's a typical beach house. It's a comfy house and perfect for all of us to lounge in but there is wear and tear in the house. The water filter spout was broken and hard to get water out of. One of the couches outside was a little worn down (like too many people sat in one particular spot). The outdoor plastic chairs, wooden chairs, and lounges were uncomfortable.
- Buy extra toilet paper! :)
- We got a little sick, even though the water was filtered.
Be sure to talk to Anne about stocking the house with food. She is AWESOME! Go to Chez Arsenio! Happy Hour!
- Monkey Jungle
- Cabarete Beach - FAV!
- 27 Waterfalls
Have a great time! I would type more but I'm being cut off in my review! :)"

"I stayed at Villa California with 2 friends for 4 nts. We really enjoyed the stay, would definitely return and highly recommend this place.
First of all the owner, Chris, is a stand up guy. He was easily reachable, very patient through all the questions we had beforehand and was kind enough to accommodate an early check in and late check out (due to flight times).
There are a lot of things we enjoyed about our stay here. The location is excellent, only a five minute drive to the center of Sosua, about 300 pesos if you cab. Close to the beach, Cabarete, etc. There's also an amazing 2nd floor patio where we spent a lot of time.
The house is on a large lot, secured with a gate and at night a security guard would show up and stay till 6am and that was comforting given the house is on a public road and not in a gated community. During the day, the security guard at the compound across the street was extremely friendly and helpful with arranging taxis and directions.
Each of the 3 bedrooms had a full ensuite, an AC, ceiling fan, lots of closet space, a safe, and lots and lots of towels and linens. The beds were very comfortable and the entire place was clean upon arrival. The kitchen had all the cooking supplies you need although some were a little worn out.
There's a beautiful pool in the front yard and the entire lots is very nicely landscaped and has several coconut trees. The groundskeeper who came daily to tend to the pool and lot was kind enough to chop down and open up some fresh coconuts for us.
The entire staff from the groundskeeper, security guard and cleaning lady (she came once during our stay) were really kind and friendly. We made sure that they were all tipped, we shared food and water with them, and made conversation with our broken Spanish.
The property manager that greets you upon arrival is very helpful and thorough and easy to reach if you ever have any issues.
This is the 4th villa I've rented in the Dominican Republic and would definitely consider staying here again if I'm back in the same area and need 3 bedrooms."
