  • Couldn't be better

"Sea Rock was a perfect place to stay. The house is located a couple hundred feet about the sea, with sweeping views from every room of Coral Bay. Two decks run the length of the first and second floors, with comfortable seating, shade if you want it, and on the top floor, outside the kitchen, is a beautiful long table for dining. The kitchen is superb, with every appliance you could want. Plus, it's got all of the basic spices, oil and vinegar, etc. so you don't have to buy these at the store. The upstairs has a cathedral ceiling with 3 fans to keep things cool, but we rarely used the fans because the view to the East brought nice breezed all day and night. The furniture is very comfy. There are 2 bedrooms -- both air conditioned - which share a bath. There are two outdoor showers, which surprised us but we quickly found that we loved them. It's great to be taking a shower while looking over a privacy screen at the ocean. The beds are comfortable and there's a lot of closet and dresser space for clothes. We didn't use them but the owner told us we could use his beach chairs, coolers and other handy items. Finally, I can't say enough good things about the owner, Dan Maitland. This was our first time in St. John and we had many questions about where to hike, where to snorkel, where to eat, etc. Dan quickly sent very thorough answers to all of our questions. And his property manager, Jared, was equally response to my queries. It's very reassuring to see this level of service on a rental property. My wife and I will definitely be back to Sea Rock. Finally, let me say how much we enjoyed staying in Coral Bay. It's a small community about 20 minutes from busy Cruz Bay. The area is much less hectic, and the area isn't built-up. There's no town center but there are 3 grocery stores, a lots of restaurants -- several of them excellent -- and a few nice stores."

  • Great place - beware of construction though.

"My husband, 2 other married couples and two other siblings stayed at Bella Sur Mer for a week. The location is right on the beach and you have your own little private pool that has great seating in the shade if you need it. The caretaker came once during our stay to clean which is really nice. Each room has it's own new A/C unit that worked perfectly. The kitchen is stocked with all the tools you need to cook if thats what you plan to do for meals. Lots of seating for everyone if you want to relax in the house too. The snorkeling is the best! The reef directly in front of the house was great; saw huge grouper, huge lobster, starfish and lots of other fish, big and small. If you walk out to the beach and take a left, walk down about 1/2 mile (where the white stair case is at another house) there's another phenomenal reef, about 40 feet deep, we saw huge sea turtles, enormous eagle rays, large sting rays, large barracuda and many other species of fish in all shapes, sizes and colors! No need to waste money on snorkeling cruises, the best is right out your back door!! Its very windy on this side of the island so the ocean is very choppy and made it tiresome to swim through all the time, but it is well worth it and great exercise. The one negative is that there are some local boaters who disregard the boat channel markers and drive right through the reef at full speed (they come from the marina and head east to the resorts to take people tubing, etc.) so that was worrisome at times. Also, be aware, that there is construction still going on right next door. An earlier review stated this back in August of 2013 and I had figured by now it would have been finished. Not so. There is the main house and two smaller homes, maybe a third being constructed at this site. There was the usual jackhammer, sawing, pounding etc. sounds that was not fun to hear while trying to relax. They start at 7:30 and usually done by the end of the day, they also work weekends. I'm guessing its taking so long because the construction workers are on "island time." From the looks of it, could be another year and half or so before the construction is done. Another thing was our water was shut off without notice. I called the caretaker, who called the water company, who said it would be on in an hour; I'm guessing, again, that was "island time" because it didn't come back on until 6 hours later. Other than those things, the location is great and it was affordable."

  • A great stay in Exuma

"The home is fantastic, and the location is ideal for a quiet and relaxing stay. The beach, which is steps from the deck/pool area was mostly deserted. The gazebo was perfect for meals outdoors overlooking the beautiful ocean and the pool. An added benefit was the hot tub and comfortable lounge chairs. The house was well appointed and each of the four bedrooms was spacious, comfortable with large bathrooms, ideal for our family with adult children, although the lay-out and beach location would also be great for families with small children. We will definitely be back."

  • The week that I look forward to the most each year.

"This was the second week that I have spent at Villa Mara. It was like coming home! We were met at the front door with welcomes and hugs. Last year I thought that the stay was amazing - this year - it was even better. I don't know how the staff did it but they remembered little details about our likes and were right on top of everything. The beautiful house has the atmosphere of real Jamaica and I must say that I got the back to boarding school feeling when we had to leave. My husband, daughter, son-in-law and two grand daughters accompanied me on this trip. Every one had a blast and felt most pampered. My grand daughters both cried when they left. Many very, very happy memories have been made at Villa Mara. For that week we were made to feel that it was our home."

Grenada Travel Tips

Getting to Grenada Vacation Rentals

The Point Salines International Airport is located on the southwestern tip of Granada. Most flights in and out of the country are from neighboring Caribbean islands and South and Central America. A handful of international airlines operate direct flights to Grenada from the United States and Europe. If you cannot find a direct flight from your home destination, you may consider routing via Trinidad or Barbados. In season, there is typically a higher flight frequency and it is advisable to make your flight reservations well in advance as direct flights do get booked up very quickly. Once on the island, it is fairly easy to get around. Taxis operate in the main towns and provide airport transfers. Buses offer an affordable way to get around Grenada and operate daily. The local information office will be able to provide you with more information on routes and schedules. There are many car rental agencies on Grenada and this is possibly one of the best options if you want to explore the island sights independently. The roads are generally easy to navigate and maps can be obtained from the rental agencies or the local information office. There is also a ferry service that runs between the main towns on the island.
