  • Our 1st Vacation Rental - Amazing morning views!

"This summer as part of our family trip we decided to rent an apartment for the first time. We ended up in this wonderful gem! The apartment was spacious and comfortable (there were five of us). My mother had not been on the island in more than 50 years and having this inviting home as a place to relax from our whirlwind activity filled days was a Godsend. The condo has all the comforts of home, more so because we were able to step right out of the property to the beach. In the front closet there are beach chairs, cooler, umbrella and beach toys which we were able to use while on the beach. Waking up and sitting on the balcony at dawn was one of the most beautiful and tranquil moments of the day and a highlight of our memories. Jim is personable and communicated with us before, during and after our stay. My family unanimously agrees that we will be visiting again! After staying here no more hotel rooms for us. Thanks Jim!"

  • Great House, Great Week

"Our family of five (kids 9,7, and 4) stayed for a wonderful week in Harbour Island, and Afterthought exceeded our needs and expectations. The location is central to everything--easy walk to stores, restaurants and the bay--but it feels away from the buzz of town. We usually took a golf cart to the beach because of the kids, but if you like to walk it's a very doable trek to the pink sands. The garden and patio feel lush and private because they have been so thoughtfully appointed and landscaped. The back deck is large and full of comfortable chairs and tables, and the pool is an awesome bonus. My kids spent hours in it everyday. The inside of the house is modern, comfortable and well furnished. The upstairs bedrooms are particularly charming and have great views. But the biggest thing that makes the house stand apart is that it has all the things vacation homes usually lack, like quality mattresses, nice linens, plenty of pillows, a reading lamp right where you need it, a fully-stocked kitchen, and ample glasses and silverware. The owners have also thoughtfully provided all of those little things you hate to have to buy or travel with, like hand soap, dish soap, paper towels, trash bags and cards and board games. They have also provided some big extras like beach chairs and kayaks. It's so easy to come here and just enjoy the island. And, of course, it was heaven to have Francine come and lighten the cleaning load. Made it even more of a vacation."

  • Another Delighted Guest

"Like many before us we fell in love with Mac and Jack's condo at Son Risa in Pelican Key. We have spent 3 delightful weeks in March 2015 enjoying the ambiance, the pool and the location. We have been coming to St Martin since 1987 and have never found accommodations quite as enjoyable as these. We will be back."

Guadeloupe Travel Tips

Traveling to Guadeloupe Vacation Rentals

The main airport is located on the southwestern corner of Basse-Terre, two miles from Point á Pitre. The airport hosts a variety of European and North American airlines and has two international terminals. There are direct flights from Paris and New York City. If you are looking for alternative flight routing, you could look into traveling via San Juan on Puerto Rico. There are several ferries and private yacht charters that operate between Guadeloupe and neighboring islands in the Caribbean.

Best Time of Year to Visit Guadeloupe Villas

Guadeloupe is a group of French-governed islands located in the eastern part of the Caribbean. They are sometimes referred to as the butterfly islands because the two largest islands, when viewed together from the air, resemble the shape of a butterfly's wings. The islands have a typically tropical climate with little temperature variation between the seasons. The more differentiating factor is the humidity and rainfall. In the summer months, high levels of humidity and frequent rain showers make the temperatures feel hotter. Occasional tropical storms are also common, bringing heavy rain and strong winds. The cyclone season is also typically the low tourist season and this occurs mostly in August and September. From December through April, the air is drier and temperatures therefore feel more moderate. This is most commonly the peak tourist season.

Visitors to Guadeloupe Resort Rentals

Because Guadeloupe is a French foreign territory, the primary local language is French. This therefore attracts many French Canadians and European travelers. It is a vacation destination that has an almost sophisticated air about it, even though it is a tropical island destination. The main cities have high-class shopping malls and the streets resemble those of mainland France. However, when you travel to more remote parts of the island, you can discover a wealth of natural treasures. It is certainly a destination for sun lovers and people who enjoy sandy white beaches and swaying palm trees. Guadeloupe is known for its vibrant nightlife. Local festivals are usually all-night street parties. It is a trendy vacation destination that attracts movie stars and celebrities, especially to the elite island of St. Barthelemy.

Attractions and Activities near Caribbean Vacation Rentals in Guadeloupe

Guadeloupe has a wealth of natural attractions. Beautiful beaches are what the destination is known for but its natural attractions extend far beyond that. The rainforests are thick and home to many plant and animal species. The island of Basse-Terre has rugged volcanic terrain and is home to the Caribbean's tallest waterfall. The adjacent island of Grand-Terre has a gentler, more undulating landscape. Some of the smaller uninhabited islands are still relatively wild and untamed. The Guadeloupe National Park has more than 180 miles of marked trails that visitors can explore. For birdwatching enthusiasts, you can take an excursion to the mangrove swamps on Grand-Terre and see many different bird species here.

If you are more adventurous, you can take a hike to the top of La Soufriere. This active volcano last made rumblings in 1976. The hike is strenuous and takes approximately 90 minutes to reach the top. Guadeloupe is surrounded by amazing coral reefs and it is ranked as one of the top 10 dive sites in the world. Diving conditions are calm, and the coral and marine life are abundant. Eating out in Guadeloupe is an experience. The cuisine is a blend of island and European flavors that will delight the palate. There are many beach bars and nightclubs where you can enjoy some tasty local rum cocktails.
