  • Our vacation home for a week

"We just returned from spending a week on vieques. This was our first time to this beautiful peaceful island but I do not think it will be the last. Casa de Marullo was perfect for us, two couples, traveling together. It has a very large yard which seems more unusual for the area and it is all gated/fenced off to keep the horses out. The house is supplied well with things you need. The house manager, Marcelle, makes herself available for anything to make your stay great. Everyone on the island is very helpful and friendly. Working with the owner, Barbara, was also very easy and problem free. Any questions we had she quickly answered. I would highly recommend this for a vacation destination. We explored new beaches every day! One of the greatest things about the island is that most everywhere is so casual you can go right from the beach to the restaurants without having to go clean up first. Throw on your beach coverup and you are good to go!"

  • Family destination at the beach

"My husband and I and our three grade-school boys had a delightful week at this condo in March. We all loved going to the pool right next door and the beach just across the street. The condo was clean, roomy, and well stocked with all the pots, dishes, utensils, sheets and towels we needed. The airy windows provided cool breezes during the day, and the air conditioning in the bedrooms and living room kept us comfortable at night. The rooftop patio has a beautiful view of the beach during the day and the stars at night. We could easily walk to the Cabezas de San Juan Nature Reserve for a tour that we booked in advance. We ate several meals at the restaurant next door and walked to Las Croabas for other restaurants. We were glad for the garage to park our vehicle, which we used to reach the grocery store, local boating and snorkeling tours, and more distant destinations such as El Yunque and the Rio Camuy bat caves."

Guadeloupe Travel Tips

Traveling to Guadeloupe Vacation Rentals

The main airport is located on the southwestern corner of Basse-Terre, two miles from Point á Pitre. The airport hosts a variety of European and North American airlines and has two international terminals. There are direct flights from Paris and New York City. If you are looking for alternative flight routing, you could look into traveling via San Juan on Puerto Rico. There are several ferries and private yacht charters that operate between Guadeloupe and neighboring islands in the Caribbean.

Best Time of Year to Visit Guadeloupe Villas

Guadeloupe is a group of French-governed islands located in the eastern part of the Caribbean. They are sometimes referred to as the butterfly islands because the two largest islands, when viewed together from the air, resemble the shape of a butterfly's wings. The islands have a typically tropical climate with little temperature variation between the seasons. The more differentiating factor is the humidity and rainfall. In the summer months, high levels of humidity and frequent rain showers make the temperatures feel hotter. Occasional tropical storms are also common, bringing heavy rain and strong winds. The cyclone season is also typically the low tourist season and this occurs mostly in August and September. From December through April, the air is drier and temperatures therefore feel more moderate. This is most commonly the peak tourist season.

Visitors to Guadeloupe Resort Rentals

Because Guadeloupe is a French foreign territory, the primary local language is French. This therefore attracts many French Canadians and European travelers. It is a vacation destination that has an almost sophisticated air about it, even though it is a tropical island destination. The main cities have high-class shopping malls and the streets resemble those of mainland France. However, when you travel to more remote parts of the island, you can discover a wealth of natural treasures. It is certainly a destination for sun lovers and people who enjoy sandy white beaches and swaying palm trees. Guadeloupe is known for its vibrant nightlife. Local festivals are usually all-night street parties. It is a trendy vacation destination that attracts movie stars and celebrities, especially to the elite island of St. Barthelemy.

Attractions and Activities near Caribbean Vacation Rentals in Guadeloupe

Guadeloupe has a wealth of natural attractions. Beautiful beaches are what the destination is known for but its natural attractions extend far beyond that. The rainforests are thick and home to many plant and animal species. The island of Basse-Terre has rugged volcanic terrain and is home to the Caribbean's tallest waterfall. The adjacent island of Grand-Terre has a gentler, more undulating landscape. Some of the smaller uninhabited islands are still relatively wild and untamed. The Guadeloupe National Park has more than 180 miles of marked trails that visitors can explore. For birdwatching enthusiasts, you can take an excursion to the mangrove swamps on Grand-Terre and see many different bird species here.

If you are more adventurous, you can take a hike to the top of La Soufriere. This active volcano last made rumblings in 1976. The hike is strenuous and takes approximately 90 minutes to reach the top. Guadeloupe is surrounded by amazing coral reefs and it is ranked as one of the top 10 dive sites in the world. Diving conditions are calm, and the coral and marine life are abundant. Eating out in Guadeloupe is an experience. The cuisine is a blend of island and European flavors that will delight the palate. There are many beach bars and nightclubs where you can enjoy some tasty local rum cocktails.
