  • Enjoyed the Palmyra

"The Palmyra is a high end resort that was apparently foreclosed on a few years ago. There are three 10+ story buildings of rooms, but one of the buildings is not finished. The resort appears to be operated by the bank and/or some people who purchased condominiums there. My family stayed in a first floor condo last week. The condo we stayed in (I think it was room 104) was very high end. The ceilings are about 14 feet high, tile floors, granite countertops, nice kitchen, very nice bathrooms, very nice deck overlooking the ocean and the pool. There are several floor to ceiling windows, the condo is fairly spacious and well decorated. The grounds are very well maintained. The beach is great and the pool is great. It was a little creepy at first because we were they only occupants we saw for the first few days, and the interior hallways are not well lit at night. (The resort is gated and guarded.) However, after a few days we settled in and could appreciate the resort better. There were also a few other families as the week went on. I definitely recommend staying in a condo at the Palmyra rather than one of the all inclusive resorts (Hilton, Hyatt, Holiday Inn) nearby. Of the families we met mid week had also stayed at the Hyatt and said that it was obviously not creepily vacant, but was so crowded that they could barely find a place to sit on the beach. At the Palmyra we had a beautiful beach mostly to ourselves the whole week. There are no restaurants at the Palmyra, and I don't think the nearby resorts allow (or at least the financially discourage) non guests from eating there. However, Montego Bay has a lot of very nice restaurants that are reasonably priced and I am much happier that we explored the costal towns rather than just stay at an all inclusive resort. The Palmyra manager we worked with (Judith) was accommodating and helpful. She also recommended a driver named Richard. (You should not plan on renting a car in Jamaica if you are from the US. The roads are much more narrow than we are used to and the drivers driver differently - not just on the other side of the road, but sort of crazy.) However, Richard was a great driver. He was knowledgeable as a tour guide, a safe driver, and very enjoyable to be with. He also consistently steered us to activities and restaurants that we liked. The only thing we did wrong was not bring our own snorkeling gear. We could not rent decent gear there and we would liked to have done more snorkeling."

  • Truly a Vacation In Paradise

"My dreams came true this winter when we had the opportunity to spend a week at Villa Paradiso. It was a rare and unforgettable occasion to reconnect with our grown children and create memories we will cherish for a lifetime. Logistically, everything went off without a hitch. Ron picked us up at the airport in a comfortable van and offered a plethora of information on the surroundings as we made our way to the villa where we were warmly greeted by the staff. The villa was absolutely stunning; far exceeding our expectations. It was beautifully decorated and extremely spacious. From the lovely gardens surrounding the villa, to the refreshing pool, to the glorious private beach, every moment was magical. We sumptuously dined out of doors under the covered porch served by friendly and attentive staff. We planned our meals with the assistance of the chef Leila and sampled the delicious Jamaican cuisine. We were never disappointed!! At the end of the day we were treated to divinely comfortable, turned down beds in beautifully appointed bedrooms. Each room had its own en-suite bath and spacious closets. The tropical breezes and ocean waves rocked us into peaceful sleep. Apart from our visits to town and a few hours at Dunn’s River Falls we did not feel compelled to leave the villa. (Although there are many attractions in the area) We snorkeled right in front of the villa, seeing many tropical fish and sea creatures, played in the surf and lounged by the pool. The only problem with our stay was having to leave paradise. Thank you to Tony, Nadine, Leila and all the staff for treating us like royalty. It was a perfect escape. I would highly recommend Villa Paradiso to anyone wanting a vacation of a lifetime."

  • FIVE STARS ALL THE WAY!

"Our stay at Oclam Lodge was unforgettable start to finish! The location was jaw-dropping, backing onto the the 18th green of the famous run away bay golf course & just a stones throw away from the paradise beach that is run away bay. The staff were incredible, everything was catered for, We took our 18th month year old & ms Sharon was an outstanding hostess & we felt more than comfortable. We've already booked our second vacation for February & we really couldn't recommend any higher 'FIVE STARS'... a real must Steve & Katie (UK)"

  • Best Ever

"Sitting here over looking the pool with the ocean in the background on the last day of vacation and reflecting back at what's been the best vacation ever. Having never stayed in a "staffed" villa I wasn't sure what to expect coming in. And having 10 adults in the house also made me a bit apprehensive -- like would there be enough room for us all to enjoy the space without being on top of each other? I'll address the space first. No worries! We quickly discovered that between lounging by the pool, or sitting in one of two conversation areas (both outside but covered) that EVERYONE was comfortable, able to make as many private calls as they needed and we didn't feel on top of each other. It was was so enjoyable to see different couples chatting and socializing. Staffed villa: Completely expands the vacation experience. The staff buys the groceries, cooks awesome meals, cleans up afterward, makes coffee in the morning -- cleans your room and a few folks in our party even used laundry service! The late risers never knew this -- but each morning a staff member cleaned the pool and swept up all the leaves -- before "most" of our crew were even out of bed. Our group marveled daily at how wonderful this experience has been. And if you are still reading reviews and trying to decide I'd recommend stop reading and start making a reservation!!!"
