  • Great house in a great location

"Surf View Villa is a fantastic place to hang out, with lots of common areas- including an indoor living room and an outdoor deck/kitchen/BBQ/ping-pong area. The house is clean, well stocked, spacious and comfortable. Of course you're not in Rincon to spend all day indoors, but the house was a great place to come home to and relax after a long day of surfing, snorkeling, swimming, etc. It is a quick drive to several beaches and other attractions in the area. Highly recommended."

  • Beautiful Home with spectacular views!

"My wife and I stayed at the captain's house for about a week in April 2015 and absolutely loved it. The home is impeccably kept in a gorgeous private setting with absolutely spectacular views. Although there were neighbors nearby you would think that you're in a private resort on the top of the mountain. Although the drive up the road was a little daunting at first after a few days we were driving it like a local. Flowers and trees are absolutely gorgeous, pool is wonderful and our stay was just everything we could have hoped for. If we go back to Tortola we would definitely stay at The Captains House!"

  • The Best Vacation Ever!

"My friends and I spent our vacation at this wonderful ocean front villa for the first time this year. The property was very nice, the grounds beautiful, the beach was GREAT and the staff was excellent. I will stay again in the future because we enjoyed ourselves so much and the whole experience went so flawlessly (from renting the villa, asking and receiving information, etc....). I can say that not one thing went wrong on this trip. BEST vacation ever!!!!!"

  • Great Place

"We stayed at the Stanza Mare for a week in March. It was one of our most fabulous vacations. Steve the owner, and Ives the property manager were easy to work with. Ives does an incredible job in making your stay great. I would highly recommend one of Ives excursions, we had a lot of fun and he goes out of his way to make sure that everything goes well. The condo was just as it looks in the pictures, nothing fancy but very comfortable. We enjoyed the beautiful beach and pool. Everything was clean and you can walk for miles and never find the end of the beach. We felt very safe there, they have security 24 hours a day. We especially liked the security guard named Junior. He worked during the day, he didn't speak English, but we both did our best to communicate. He even came to say goodbye to us on the day we had to leave. We found many good restaurants around the area. Our favorites were Balicana (Asian), Pastrata, DeAngelos Pizzeria, Nam, Nams-they had the best hamburgers. We went to Gary's sports Bar to watch the NCAA basketball games, and the bakery had the most delicious crossiants. We felt very safe there and did a lot of walking, but we also took the local bus to the grocery store one day it cost us around 60 cents. We had a wonderful time and can not wait to go back. It is also good to keep in mind that you are on island time when you are here, so relax and have fun!"

Montserrat Travel Tips

Attractions and Activities near Montserrat Vacation Rentals

Possibly Montserrat's most well-known attraction is the Soufriere Hills Volcano. After centuries of lying dormant, it started spewing volcanic ash in the early 1900s. Five years later, in 1997, a volcanic eruption resulted in pyroclastic flows down the volcano's northeastern slopes. This resulted in the closure of the WH Bramble Airport and widespread evacuation of the local inhabitants. Today, there is an exclusion zone which prohibits access to the volcano and its surrounding area; however, there are several viewing points where you can see the active volcano.

The city of Plymouth which was once is capital is now just an ash-covered ghost town. Unfortunately, it falls within the exclusion zone so it is not possible to visit the site. The best viewing points are at Jack Boy Hill and the Montserrat Volcano Observatory. To get a view of Plymouth, you can go to Garibaldi Hill. The Montserrat Volcano Observatory not only monitors the volcanoes activity; it also provides information to the public. It is well worth visiting.

Montserrat has many natural attractions which are safe and accessible on the northern side of the island. One of the more popular ways to explore is on bicycle. There are also several hiking and trekking trails. The lush forested terrain in the central region is known for its abundant bird life. Birdwatching enthusiasts can see if they can spot the rare national bird, the Montserrat Oriole. Along the coast, you can enjoy the experience of turtle watching. There are several beaches where Green, Loggerhead and Hawksbill turtles come ashore to nest. Access to these beaches is limited but you can join up with an organized guided trek.

Montserrat has pristine coral reefs and excellent diving conditions. Scuba divers rank this island as one of the Caribbean's top diving destinations. Dive charters can be arranged with one of the local operators. For those who don't have a diving certification, you can enjoy the shallower reefs on snorkeling excursions. Sailing is another popular activity and yacht charters can be easily arranged.

Getting to Montserrat Villas

The major international airport on Montserrat was closed following the spate of volcanic eruptions that took place in the 1990s. As a result larger commercial aircraft cannot land on Montserrat. To get to Montserrat, you need to get a commercial flight to neighboring Antigua. From there, you can get a ferry or flight across to Montserrat. A local airline operates daily flights in 19-seater jet prop aircraft. Various charter flights are available as alternatives if you cannot get on the scheduled flights. The ferry from Antigua leaves from St. John and takes approximately 90 minutes. Travelers are required to check in at least 90 minutes prior to departure. A maximum of two bags per person is allowed and luggage has to be checked in. The ferry operates Monday to Saturday and has at least one departure a day in either direction. Ferry tickets can be reserved through the local tourist office in Antigua or through many of the local tour operators.

Visitors to Montserrat Resort Rentals

Montserrat attracts visitors who have a strong interest in nature and outdoor exploring. The island has wealth of natural attractions which is a delight for nature lovers. Scuba divers and sailing enthusiasts are attracted to the island's ocean treasures.
