"If you're considering visiting St. Thomas, you definitely should! The island is gorgeous, the views are stunning, the people are genuinely friendly, and any services you are accustomed to are readily available, though possibly in a more laid-back manner. The island has lots to do and explore, and many ways to relax and do blissful nothings. The water is a beautiful turquoise from afar, crystal clear up close, and mostly calm and tranquil, as the best beaches are located within protective inlet bays surrounded by lush vegetation.
If you ARE visiting St. Thomas you should definitely stay at Villa Papillon! The villa is large and accommodating, appliances and furnishings are high-end, the beds are very comfortable, the decorations are wonderfully eclectic, and any linens, kitchen utensils and sundries, laundry supplies, and paper products you need are provided. There is a large library of books. I enjoyed the Dennis Miller Rants. My daughter enjoyed a glossy photo book of dogs and cats playing among some ancient ruins in Greece. And who wouldn't love the ENTIRE Farside collection in hardback? There were a ton of dvds available but we never turned the TVs on as there were always better ways to spend our time.
And the deck. Ah... the deck. The deck is very expansive. There are assorted chairs and lounges for sunbathing, drying off after a dip in the pool, or having your morning coffee or tea. There are both covered and uncovered sections for outdoor dining and a shady nook for my wife to take a break from the tropical sun and read her kindle. The view of the ocean and uninhabited Hans Lollik Island are so beautiful they reminded us of postcard or calendar images. The pool itself was clear as glass and oh, so refreshing. At night you could see lights from St. John and the BVI off to the right, open ocean off to the left, and straight ahead, more unspoiled nothing than I can recall seeing before. Overhead, between thin wispy clouds, my kids saw more stars than they had ever seen living back home in suburbia. My wife even saw a shooting star!
The owners, Linda and Mike, are friendly and welcoming. Mike met us in town to escort us to the villa, but we mostly interacted with Linda. She is very helpful and can offer suggestions for activities, places to eat, etc. Although they live close, they respected our privacy and we did not see them at all after our arrival tour.
Villa Papillon is a magical place; staying there made for a truly memorable vacation!"
