  • Fabulous Property!

"We absolutely loved our stay at Vervain Mill! Nevis is a great small island to get away to for a week & we enjoyed every bit of it. The mill is BEAUTIFUL! It would easily sleep 6 adults (possibly more) but was PERFECT for the two of us. The renovation of the mill was spectacular! All the amenities, and then some. Well kept, well maintained, immaculate. 3 bedrooms plus a lounge room, 3 bathrooms, full kitchen, gorgeous deck with views of the grounds, the ocean, the mountain, etc., beautiful grounds, pool, everything you could want. The mill is off the beaten path, which is exactly how we like it. Think seclusion, not isolation. But it only takes an hour to drive around the entire island, so you’re not far from anything. There are stores nearby so it’s easy to stock up on anything you need. We explored the island every day of our visit. There are great restaurants & plenty of recommendations at the property. There is a great museum on the next road, which we highly recommend – it’s the ruins you see as you drive down to the property. If you really get out onto the less travelled roads, you can find ruins of other mills to see just how awesome the renovation of Vervain really is. We booked a snorkeling trip with John which was definitely a highlight & we highly recommend. The mill itself offers enough to warrant booking it, but the management is what really puts it over the top. Wendy answered all of our questions and arranged for our trip to be so very relaxing. Without her, the trip could have been much different. We flew into St. Kitt’s late in the evening after the public ferry to Nevis ended. She arranged for a taxi to meet us at the airport to take us to a private ferry, which took us to Nevis, where another taxi was waiting to take us to the property. Wendy arranged for a local to prepare a meal & store in the fridge for when we arrived. Let me just say, do that! We ate that cake for the entire week. Wendy also arranged for a chef to come to the mill to prepare a meal for a special evening. And Wendy arranged for a rental car to be brought directly to the mill. We originally booked the mill because it was pretty much the same price as a decent hotel room. But we prefer to do our own thing & don’t really love the monotony of hotels. In the end, this was absolutely the best way to go. We loved everything about the property & the management. We absolutely recommend the property & would stay here again!"

  • Rest and relaxation at Hummingbird House

"My husband and I and another couple spent two extremely relaxing weeks at Hummingbird House. It was so difficult to leave the comforts and warmth of Hummingbird and Nevis to return to the frigid temps of New England! Flexibility seemed to be the order of the day as we were allowed to check in earlier than normal as we transitioned from another home on the island to Hummingbird House. We had been informed that cold beverages (beer and Ting) would be waiting for us upon arrival, and indeed they were. Visitors are asked to restock the supplies when they depart the home; lovely to have cold drinks to greet you! Richard was most helpful and responsive before and during our stay at Hummingbird. We didn't require assistance with taxi, water taxi, and car rental as we were already on-island, but the help was readily available had we desired it. He did assist our friends with their travel arrangements from St. Kitts, and all went smoothly. When we encountered difficulty with the DVD connections and informed Richard of our dilemma, the housekeeper arrived two days later with a new machine which she quickly made operational. The house, itself, was warm and welcoming…our bed was very restful…the chaise lounges adjacent to the pool were the most comfortable I've encountered…the pool was cool and refreshing….gardens were quite beautiful. We never required the bedrooms' air conditioning as the breezes kept the house well ventilated. We enjoyed watching the monkeys nibble flowers from the trees and cavort with one another in the yard. They are quite shy and disappear quickly when human beings come on the scene. We found the conveniences available in the kitchen, dishes, glass and plastic beverage containers, utensils, pots and pans, spices, etc. more than adequate. While we didn't use the toys (air hockey, pool table, etc.) on the first floor, some visitors might find these great diversions. We did complete two jigsaw puzzles during our two week stay. All in all, we had a lovely stay at Hummingbird House and would recommend the home highly."

  • So fantastic

"We absolutely loved staying here. The home has everything we could have needed and the property is beautiful. It was private, remote, and safe. Barbara and Sandy are amazing hosts and were so incredibly helpful with our trip. We were having trouble booking a Winnair flight...and they drive down to the airport and made all arrangements for us before we arrived. They really are just fantastic. The view is amazing, and we LOVED the dogs, the horse, and the donkeys on the property. Our favorite beach on the island is right down the hill. Always quiet and relatively empty. I also highly recommend the hike to Nevis peak. We are retuning very soon. Thanks so much for a wonderful week. :)"

  • There is something magical about Butler's that I can't put into words, you just have to experience

"My husband and I stayed in Butler's House for over a week. We can not say enough wonderful things about this sanctuary where we could watch the monkeys play every evening by the pool, take walks to nearby hiking trails, and enjoying meals on the veranda overlooking the ocean. There is no air-conditioning, which was an early concern for me before we booked--as it turned out there was no concern for the lack of A/C. The elevation at Butlers allows for the beautiful ocean breezes to enter the home and it stays cool, even on hot days (I think A/C might even spoil the experience as renters may want to turn it on vs. enjoy the cool breezes). If you stay, ask Bernice to cook you some authentic West Indian meals, she's a wonderful cook. We spent countless hours in the pool--nets were provided to help keep the pool clean on the days it wasn't cleaned by someone. You can pick fresh fruit from the garden, including mangos and limes. Monkeys will play on the roof some mornings and are around the property--they provide ample entertainment and they are not intrusive in the least. Although the property is not located on a beach or next to resorts, everything is within a short driving distance (keep in mind that the most time any drive will take is about 20 - 25 minutes to the opposite end of the island) so most beaches and restaurants are within a 10 minute drive, so you will need a car. Butler's Village is great, Jimmy Buffet's famed Domino College is a short walk away. People wave to you everywhere you go, and Butler's Village I found particularly welcoming. It is not developed in any way, it is truly a quain caribbean village, which was perfect for us. If you're looking for a posh, slick type of atmosphere, this probably isn't the place for you. But if you prefer a true caribbean experience and want to completely unwind and relax, Butler's is for you. It is a comfortable home where you feel like you can curl up on the couch and lose yourself in a book, cook a gorgeous meal in the kitchen, or take a shower in the bathroom with the windows wide open, overlooking the garden and flowers and wildlife, the property is incredibly inviting, calming and private. You feel completely safe staying at Butlers as well as on the island of Nevis. There is something magical about this place that I can't put into words, you just have to experience it for yourself."
