  • La Isla de Mi Corazon!!!!

"My son and I (age 25) have been wanting to go back to the land of both of our Fathers for years. I saved and saved and finally the time had come. Prior to booking at the ESJ Towers I had booked another place that somehow never received my deposit. Yay for Me!!!! Isla Verde is the place to be for a visit to PR. Positive: *Centrally located *Great food within a short distance from location *Amazing beaches *Great price *Clean, secure, and for the most part quiet *Having a kitchen allowed for reheating of food *The resort next door has great live music, gambling & sports bar Negatives: *I DIDNT WANT TO GO HOME (I literally cried when I left)...... Recommendations: *Food - sooooo many places to choose from BUT the one place that we went to ALL the time was Mi Casita (it is located in the little strip mall next to the 24/7 store/Burger King (?). Our favorite meals were El Navidad (Christmas) favorites of pernil (pork), pasteles, arroz con gandules - reminded me of my childhood. The Paella was pretty good and the mofongo was awesome!!!! *Go to 24/7 store for goodies (we bought a case of water, rum, coke, juice, and snacks) - they also have a really good restaurant there and wine on tap *If you are going to rent a car go less than a block away (to your left of the towers) to Quality - see Jose. They had a special for $19.99 per day unlimited for a nice Toyota. *BEFORE you go to the beach, stop by the gym and make arrangements for a beach chair rental. I believe they are $2 per use versus $4 on the beach. *If you have a collapsable thermos (or buy a styrofoam one at the store) bring it. It makes it easier to bring stuff to drink while on the beach. There is only one vendor that sells coconut water, soda and bottled water with some light food. No alcohol sold on the beach unless you walk further down to the bar and I think for a mixed fufu drink my son paid $9 per drink - Ouch! *Take the bus (and bring some patience). The bus is .75 BUT it is on caribbean time - suppose to be every 35 minutes but not a set schedule so you could be waiting for an hour. - And bring change - bus drivers won't make it for you. *Be adventurous. If you get a chance for some beach fried good PR food - go to Pinones. I was craving bacalaitos (sp???) and all the locals said go there. *If you are going next door to dance, bring something to wear. *And, finally when in Old San Juan, across from El Convento try El Batey - dive bar."

  • Fabulous 50

"I was turning 50 and knew that I had to be somewhere on a beach. Immediately I thought of Puerto Rico. When I come to the island I usually stay in San Juan. This time I wanted to be closer to the locals and experience a less tourist vacation. I am so happy I made that decision!! My family is from Fajardo and I remember living here when I was a teenager, the beaches are by far some of the prettiest!! Pena Mar Ocean Club, was perfect - the condo was beautiful, the view spectacular!! To wake up on my 50th birthday to such beauty. Literally choked me up that morning. Ammar, the owner of the condo was accommodating and available from the moment I made the reservations. The condo is close to everything from Wal-Mart to "El Yunce" The security was comforting, it was four women traveling alone, not once did we feel unsafe. I am already planning to return on the 4th of July! And no need to ask where I'll be staying!! Gracias Ammar for a memorable birthday!!!!"

  • Great Villa in perfect Cabo Rojo Location

"This was our second time staying at Villa Taina. This Villa was bigger and more modern than others in the complex. Most villas have only 1 bath, but this one had 3/4 bath facilities downstairs, cutting the family shower waiting time in half. The villa is spacious and it is apparent it grew as it was remodeled, giving you more inside space in the rooms and living areas. Kitchen had all the items needed to cook and we used some available folding chairs and coolers for the beach. There is also a clothes washer and a grill at the villa. Buyé is the best beach around and its not far. On-site security guards were great providing directions and other useful info. Love the private beach, especially late in the day as it is so peaceful. Just remember to put some OFF at night due to mosquitoes and plenty of lotion during the day to avoid getting toasted. Price is great, considering it will cost you way more if you stayed in El Poblado (Boquerón). If cooking a lot, would recommend you get groceries/beer before getting there. We stopped at a Mayagüez Pueblo store, way cheaper and better selection than some of the small local stores. The owner was prompt answering questions and sending the needed info to book the place. This is the first time I use VRBO and won't be the last."
