  • Terrific Get-Away House

"Just spent two terrific weeks at Casa del Marullo. This visit was our fifth to Vieques. The house, and whole rental experience deserve the rave reviews they have received elsewhere. The location, a quick drive from Isabelle, at the end of a neighborhood lane and facing a usually deserted-beach can’t get any better. While the pictures fairly represent the beautiful view they can’t quite capture the large, yard (great for playing a game) or the ambiance. From the deck you seem to be almost suspended at the edge of the reef. The sound track features rustling palms and endlessly breaking waves punctuated now and again with a horse, a rooster, or the greetings of neighborhood dogs. The house is beautifully and carefully maintained, very clean, comfortably furnished, and very thoughtfully stocked with all kinds of extras that clearly signal the owner’s commitment to making guests comfortable: paper products, cleaning supplies, lotions, spices, etc. The kitchen is well stocked and easy for groups to cook in; a gas grill and multiple outside tables make it easy to savor sun or shade—and forget snow for a while. The owner and property managers provided all lots of useful information/tips to make the visit a rich one, and they impressively efficient, friendly, helpful and accessible. Hope to return next year with grands in tow."

  • Casual & comfortable, with amazing views

"My husband and I, along with our 3 young children spent a little over a week at Dulce Sueno. The house is exactly as it appears in the pictures. It is very comfortable and casual. The views to the ocean, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, homes around the island were enough to keep us busy for hours every morning over coffee. We were intrigued by the idea of visiting an island where horses roamed freely, and we had hoped the one photo of the horses up close was a regular occurrence...and it was! Every morning, we had horses visit. And, every morning they came a little bit closer to us. On our last day, they were in the driveway, and came up to us so we could pet them for a minute before they carried on their way. It was amazing! Our favorite beaches were Carracas & Chiva. Sun Bay was gorgeous too, but at Chiva, it felt like we were the only ones on the entire island! I cannot add much more that hasn't already been said by others about the house. It truly does come equipped with everything you need to be comfortable at the beach, and at home. Snorkel gear, cooler, beach towels, kitchen appliances / pots & pans, new washer/dryer, outside shower, etc. The decor has a hip, hispanic, Caribbean flare to it. We were very comfortable and look forward to returning to Vieques & Dulce Sueno very soon! One word of caution--I went jogging in the neighborhood on our second day there. It was mid-morning, everyone is very friendly...I felt safe. However, on my way back home, some dogs came after me. One dog broke out of his chain-linked fence and refused to let me continue (I am a dog-lover & this was my first negative experience with a dog.) After about a 3 minute stand-off in the middle of the road--he was barking at me & showing me his teeth while the other dogs from both sides of the road were barking like mad and there was not a human-being in site--I managed to calmly navigate around him and get home safely. When we drove by the house later that morning, I noticed the same dog had been tied up to a chain around a tree. I was very lucky, but needless to say, I would not recommend running in the neighborhoods. The dogs do not appear to be accustomed to people running by their homes."

  • Paradise Found!

"My family and I just returned from the most amazing vacation in Vieques! Our stay at Los Bohios was, quite honestly, the best part of our time there. Due to our early morning risers, ages 5 and 7, we were all ready to hit the pool by 7am every day. We cranked the tunes, opened up the doors, and enjoyed our daily pool parties. While far enough away from others as to not be a nuisance, we were still close enough to activity to not be completely isolated. Esperanza is about a five minute drive from the house. The kitchen is very well-appointed! Anything you could possibly need is within reach. The three outdoor showers were a highlight as well. There is no air conditioning, but it's really not needed. The only times I wished I had it were when I would wake in the night to the serenade of the coquí. We felt like we were in good hands with Colleen as our contact on the island. She is a great resource for the inside scoop on the island. She was extremely easy to get in touch with both before our vacation, and while in Vieques. She was also able to address any questions or concerns I may have had. Thank you so much, Colleen! We can't wait until we come to visit again!"

  • very homey and as described

"My family spent a week at Upstairs Casa Jenny and loved it. Bring earplugs or a noise machine if you are sensitive as the roosters do their job first thing! We loved it. Dave was great to deal with and financial transactions were smooth and as expected. Most impressive was Kikito, the property manager. He went out of his way to help us, was available by phone for questions, picked us up at the airport and gave us a driving tour to acclimate. We loved Esperanza and will return again in 2015!"
